Jump to unread Post a CommentHowever, if you look at the set of threads titles (in "text only" view) below, "TESCO ENTERTAINMENT" is shown as "TECO ENTERTAINMENT".
"Grand Theft Auto V PS3 XBOX £36.55 ALSO PC AT TESO ENTERTAINMENT"
I thought earlier that the thread my have been originally created with a typographical error, & was later changed, but the "search results" had 'cached' the original title.
It sounds as if this is not the case, though.
"RIHANNA NEW CD ALBUM - Talk that Talk - £3.97 @ Tsco Entertainment"
"Tron Legacy DVD £4 Delivered + Quidco @ Tesco Entrtainment"
This is looking like a bodged attempt to shorten long titles.
Perhaps just calculating the width of non-proportional characters (or truncating titles at a fixed number of characters) & simply adding an "Ellipsis" ("...") suffix would be a better approach.
However, I appreciate that because there is no fixed presentation style for thread titles, that the pertinent information (product, price, &/or merchant) may then be dropped.
Suggestion: Create a recognisable abbreviation for each merchant & replace occurrences of the merchant (&/or their web site) in thread titles when viewing search results as "Text only".
This can also be expanded to acronyms for "Voucher Code" ("VC"), for example.
However, I purposely type (& correct, when somebody changes my titles from) the word "at" instead of a "commercial at" symbol ("@") because I mean the word "at" (not the term "at the rate of").
"Avengers 6 disk Blu-ray - £33.97 (with code) @ Teco Ent"
When this thread is clicked from the [discussed] "Deals" tab, the (correct) title is shown:
Avengers 6 disk Blu-ray - £33.97 (with code) @ Tesco Ent
Thanks.
Is there any mileage in my suggestions in comment #4 about abbreviations? This may just be something to consider for the "mobile" version of the site.
"Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition Xbox 360/PS3 - £1.85 @ ShopTo"
Should read:
Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition Xbox 360/PS3 - £18.85 @ ShopTo
You accidentally a 1... what?
Have you been testing the fix on your own comments? ;)
