The site is about deals NOT ethics etc...what next voting based on religion? race?

Fair enough voting on the shop itself but no need as people vote cold if they dont like the shop anyway

I can see why you think this would be a good idea, especially considering the stupid reasons people give, but in truth, as ODB says, there shouldn't be a need for it.

With respect I don't think Capitalism and Consumerism have any ethics, even if they would like you to believe otherwise.

Nice thought though :)

would be good IF it wasnt abused which it would be, then again you do have certain members that would consider little things to mean a bad company. For example a thread today saying "CDiscount.........AVOID!!!" why would someone post this...reasons must be - bad company? rip off? undelivered items? refused refund?

NO...

OP stated that in their title...but when you looked at it he had a couple of Spam E-mails from them..hardly a bad company! I get e-mail from Play/HMV etc all the time but I dont think they are bad companies...far from it

Like I said.GREAT idea IF it wasnt abused and people judged things in the same way...only way for this to work for me is if it was only allowed to be done by more prominent members who are fair on companies

You have a slight problem that it seems some people will vote a deal 'cold' because they have a problem with the retailer.

I'm all for people making a stand and being a ConsumerVoter(TM) - but there are already enough problems with people voting deals cold for the wrong reasons without adding more.

We definately need a reminder that Heat/Cold should relate to the value for money of the deal itself ONLY - not relate to the retailer - not "apples for oranges" comparisons (500Gb HDDs against 1Tb HDDs) etc. etc.

'Additional Voting Options' ???? :w00t: You got to be joking mate. Already this site is becoming a haven for trolls and unreasonable 'cold' voters. Additional options as suggested by you may work in an ideal world.
There were some reasonable suggestion made by few members earlier -

- only having a 'Hot' voting option

- limit for number of votes per day

- no 'Cold' voting without giving a valid reason - i.e the option is available only when you write a reason for the OP to see
I just hope some of the moderators sit up and take notice of good suggestions.

I agree as sometimes it's amusing watching the votes go up and down. If someone votes cold then they should have to say why and that will stop the serial cold voters or those who vote cold as you can buy another similar item for less so they don't feel it's value for money even if it's the cheapest you can buy it anywhere!

I posted this earlier in this thread along with other examples

I think HUKD need to review the voting system and have 2 separate votes, one for like for like price comparison with that product only and one for value for money (VFM) in comparison to similar items. Maybe that will stop the stupid votes you quite often see now, as you get people voting cold even though it's the cheapest you can get that particular product . Also a vote should have more than just hot/luke warm/cold. Something like a 3 point to minus 3 points rating would be better so for example people can at least give 1 point to a cheaper price or 3 to a really cheap price ;-)

people are trying to vote for at least two things with one vote I feel so a like for like price comparison vote with votes rating 1 to 3 and an additional but separate score VFM vote would be good. That way you would also eliminate negative voters for price comparison as it's not really important if people think something isn't VFM to them as I'm looking for the cheapest price for that product as are most people at the end of the day.

as I said later in that thread above , a VFM product to one person may not be VFM to another, e.g. iPod whereas a 10% cheaper iPod is undoubtedly a bargain price to everyone as it's cheaper. Sadly that why you currently have a conflict of votes. The fact is that people only have 1 vote so some may vote hot and some cold regardless of it being the cheapest deal out there. Just because someone doesn't fancy a product or feel it's not VFM even though it's the cheapest price, does it make sense to vote it cold? :?

I'd love to come to the site and see which products are high due to the fact they are at the hottest deal price you can get something for. It's not much fun having people who don't like the product, supplier or whatever excuse they come up with (though very few post it!) for it not being VFM being able to spoil the vote as sadly that's what happens sometimes

that TV I listed is a good example, it's the cheapest price if you include the 5 year warranty but it's also over priced if you look at it for VFM. Like I said I'd vote positively for the price but negatively for the VFM but you can't, would be great if you could

who knows maybe one day in the future it does change and I feel it would be for the better . For now I'll simply ignore the votes when it's obviously not a true reflection of what it should be. I've also started just started looking at the New items and sifting through for bargains rather than those voted as HOT as not everything that's VFM to me is VFM to someone else

This is exactly what I am doing for sometime. The 'HOT' section of this once fantastic site has become a farce :x. I browse through the 'NEW' section for good posts and believe me, at times I find excellent bargains in the posts voted by some as 'COLD' .

Yes my "ALL" RSS feed is by far the most useful. The standard HOT feed is very poor most of the time.
