It will have nothing to do with names...........it'll be a ip issue.
#2
just a plain old mistake, they happen :)
#3
youve had an apology-what more do you want exactly? people make mistakes-this was an honest one-they have said sorry-end of story-why on earth do you want to bang on about it?
#4
I don't want to 'bang on' about it, simply want an explanation, as I think that's fair! If it was a mistake then fair enough, but does that email say there was a mistake? Er I don't see that. I never asked for an apology, I'm not bothered about being apologised to, I just want an explanation!

Christ, everyone's quick enough to slate the mods (not including me, I haven't even done that here), yet I ask for something simple and I'm being criticised gee thanks guys!

I asked them to check the IP details in the email to which I got a response. There should/would not have been any 'issues' as I am the only person who uses my computer & internet connection!!

As for all infractions if a mistake is made they will rectify as they have done.

Would of been easier to use the contact us button or to contact Andywedge who infracted.

They will not put the information on here for all to see.:)

Some providers will have a whole street on the same ip address. :) It wouldn't be fair if this is the case to give you the details regarding this as it would also involve another user.

Just a possibility. :)

I think the apology from a moderator covers that, although would have been decent to actually receive the apology from the moderator rather than the admins

Fair play, but when I have read other users with similar situations they were told by members to not contact the mod directly and to use feedback, or report sections, and I have already used contact us twice with the question.

I don't need intricate explanations ( I am far from being a techie!), just if someone had said, There was an honest mistake, or there was a mix up with IP details etc. Also I use a mobile braodband USB, so that may have something to do with it.

As I said, I was just concerned in case someone was using my details, as when I went to log on to yahoo I got message saying 'you have been disconnected from chat as you have been logged on from a different computer' ( and yes I changed my password)

Like I said, not bothered about an apology really, just wanted to know if anything untoward had occurred
#10
My god am I being that unreasonable? I just want to know if anyone been using my details, or if it was a mistake

i was referring to you saying that there was nothing about a mistake, the apaolgy obviously means there has been one, as sy said it probably is ip issue and the team wouldnt chat with you about this, or maybe just a genuine mistake

if someone had been using your details im sure you would have been told

I can't even remember the details you give when you sign up as it was so long ago but i'd almost guarantee it wouldn't be that as there are just too many people for them to cross reference names etc and they wouldn't have the time. :)

Ok guys well thanks for the input, doubt I will ever find out anyway! I wish I had have used multiple ID's though, may have actually stood a chance at winning something on the scratchcards lol!!

Thanks

TBH silky I don't think you are being unreasonable in wanting a general explanation as obviously, like many of us you are not knowledgeable with regards IP addresses etc.

I seem to remember the same type of thing happening to me way back. A couple of polite PM's and it was sorted although I never got a full explanation of how I had a very similar IP address to another user.
Maybe it's not the sort of knowledge that should be broadcast, I don't know.

I just wouldn't take it personally , it seems to be sorted now. :)

Why is it common nowadays to jump on people from a great height when a simple friendly reply would suffice ??

Im still waiting for a reply from mods/admin regarding something similar, incorrect speculation!!!

We'll see what happens.

I don't get this with not being allowed to have more than one account per household/IP address etc anyway, there is not a massive amount to be gained from being on here, yes you get some bargains, discount codes, and chat etc, but there is no financial gain etc, just don't get it!!

It's because there is a For Sale forum and it could be used to bump threads, prices etc. Also it would be unfair advantage on the comps/giveaways they have here. :)

Several people in the same house can have accounts...........just needs mod/admin approval first and then only one of those accounts allowed to use FS/FT.

you are allowed to have more than one account per household, your jusy asked to ok it with mods, its mainly about the fs boards i belive, to stop family members pushing prices up, although as its a set price not really gonna happen, but its their rules so members have to abide by their wishes:thumbsup:

If me and for example my brother entered??? I understand no multiple ID's no probs with that at all, it's why no more than 1 per household.

ps, I don't understand the bumping thing lol!!

If you and your brother entered that would be fine as long as both accounts had previously been approved as seperate people. Most of the issues surround the For sale forum. :)

Bumping is when someone 'bumps' their thread back to the top of page 1 by typing 'bump' etc in their thread. :)

Stacey, mods do not discuss individual cases in the public forums. Please be patient and await a further response from the contact us link. Thank you.

BUMP - Bring Up My Post

Say I post an item for sale, if there's no interest in it the item will drop off the front page and it's less likely people will notice. If I post in the thread it will 'bump' it back up to the front page but as per the rules, I can only do this three times. Instead I could create a second account and pretend to be a potential buyer on my own thread and keep it on the first page without falling foul of the bumping rules.

There are other uses of a second ID as well such as writing controversial posts behind an anonymous second ID or using it to take part in the forum while the main account is banned hence most forums ban multiple IDs.

The main way to identify an account is through an IP address which is sort of like a postal address for your PC as it identifies where your PC is on the internet. While people can create a different username and use a different mail address to register, it's more effort to connect through a different IP address. Many service providers only offer a dynamic IP address as standard, this means each time you connect through your mobile broadband dongle or reset your router you get a different IP address.

This is where I suspect the problem occurred with your account as it's possible someone else on the forum using the same service provider could have had at one point the same IP address as you have had at another time. This would mean it would look like both user accounts were actually the same person but clearly now it's been identified as an error.

Thank you very much for that!! I had a vague idea about IP being like an address, but didn't quite know how it would work with noone else using my computer, but with it being a mobile one, what you said makes sense!! And I now know why people write bump all the time in FS/FT.

Rep added!!
