Very true
"* Selling items on behalf of a third party is NOT permitted without prior consent, use the 'report' button to let us know. The items MUST belong to you and be in YOUR possession or household."

but "(20) We reserve the right to close a listing without a given reason and if we suspect the trade might be 'unsafe'. If you disagree with the decision, please use the 'Contact Us' link to let us know. "

and given this, in the rules:

(2)NB: This forums definition of a 'TRADE' is an exchange of items between members, usually without payment of money and of an acceptable value agreed by both parties.

bit harsh, so it wasn't actually against the rules when that thread was locked but now it is.

Probably a bit harsh, but these things happen, it was a sort of loophole that was exposed. It does make sense that the trade must be happening directly between the two site members involved, even if ultimately the buyer is going to give/sell to a third party... Best just not mention it!

I understand what you are saying about the trading but my point is this. The OP was buying the dvd's for her friend, not swapping them. Meaning she was paying for them with money but simply checking with her friend that she wanted the particular dvd's.

Some rules on here are just plain silly, what is the problem if somebody wants to purchase something for somebody else?
#9
Well I guess you could class it as dealing, which is not allowed?
#10
does this mean if that we mention we're buying something as a present for someone else then the thread will be locked?

best just to keep schtum about it.

Different scenario, you're buying the items being sold, not the person who is receiving their gift.

It's common sense to deal directly with the person who is actually buying the items.

Does that mean its ok to buy for someone else as long as you are dealing directly with whoevers paying?
for example I buy a game for my mate using my paypal or via my bank account then when the game turns up at my address he then gives me the cash for it or he's already given me the cash.
