Well you could always have a message like :

"Sorry (username here) this post was a duplicate and has been removed."

Still how would an Auto system tell if its Spam or a duplicate?

I'm not sure, maybe linked in some way to the 'spam' button that we can use.

Yeah I was thinking thats how it could work and then a username called "HDUK" is a bot for example that can send an email automatically, But you'd need a Dupe button aswell for it to work.

Similarly something could probably be set-up on the ad section so the second post on any for sale or trade thread is the disclaimer, Although it would rely heavily on members to report illegal items for sale (like the fags).

Can we have a button for when Steve's offended someone with his brash Northern ways?!?!?
(I'll let others decide what the message should be.....)

Congrats on your 4,000 posts.

It is a good idea, and something along these lines has been mentioned before, but i think that was more in relation to when the members click the spam button ( a reason for doing so)

Wouldn't it just be easier to write up some forum rules/guidelines and state that the mods don't have time to PM every one when a thread is removed, but you can be assured if your thread was removed it was for a good reason yada yada and if you want to know specifics feel free to PM a moderator and they will reply.

feel free to PM a moderator and they will reply.

That would result in most newbies started a new thread or just replying for the sake of asking anyway.

There are a number of things that could be done but because this site is such a huge database IMO it isn't easy to just swap about bits when someone feels like it!

I've been thinking about this for a long time.

I would really love to see this one implimented!

To be fair mods are so busy regulating everything else that they may not have time to send a personal PM. An auto PM for removals / moved threads however would allow mods even more time to go about their business - instead of having to take the time out to comment on every thread that starts with 'Wheres my post?' / 'No one PM'd me' / My posts been moved'.

And lets face it most of the people who write these usually write it a 'tone', and mods have been known to then appologise the the OP in some sort of appeasement! Why should mods appologise for doing their job?!:w00t:

Mods have many better things to do and ultimatley this mod will save you time, save some members of the community from getting unneccesarily wound up, and from those said members taking offence at the fact that a mod hadnt PM'd them etc etc....

I wont even mention the next stage where a regular steps in and tells the OP its not a mods job to PM them but to moderate.......

Im not sure how easy it is, but you know when you get auto reply from companies?

Possible(?) to do that with a reply every time a thread is deleted with the message.

Dear member

Your thread has been deleted for one (or many) reasons.
If it was a deal.

1. Non-UK site
2. Dupe
3. etc

If RE the FS/FT

1. Suspicious
2. Etc

ETC ETC

Not sure if anyone understands me? But I'd imagine it will make your (mods and members) lives much easier.

Implementing would also eliminate the wheres my post gone? and why has it been removed threads that we all see. So credit to whoever suggested AutoPM

Great idea! - sort of like what ebay send you, basically a list of 'wrong doings' and you filter out which one applies to you.

It would be quicker than PM'ing the people individually, plus prevent more of those threads popping up:thumbsup:

I don't know, that's not my area.

But it'd be good if we could select a "common reason" when a deal is removed and the message gets sent out automatically...
#24
It would be quite possible to do but it needs proper testing etc and not something that you'd want to do with 1000's of members online or you end up sending an email full of code/wrong text to the first person that makes the wrong thread!!

Its the same as the Help forum thats very easy to do although it needs to fit in with everything else, I'm hoping thats part of next the update.
#25
I'm sure Paul would have a test site where he could try out that sort of thing first

I know hes a busy guy, plus quite alot of suggestions get made- but I really believe the mods time is better spent than trying to placate people who have a missing post / thread
