Ban Tinyurl links....FAQ....Reporting posts....

Likely2Likely2

Because of the dangers of hidden links I think it should be in the 'Sign Up' that they are not allowed.

Also think there should be a FAQ link in the main menu to explain what is allowed and what isn't.

ie:

For Sale/Trade

1. No traders allowed at all, an immediate ban is enforced.
2. No selling above RRP.
3. No selling or trading of 'Copied' goods, DVDs, Games, etc....
4. No deals to be done through PMs, 100% transparency in the open forum.
5. So on and so forth.....

Then all the information is in one place and can be pointed to by mods and admins, also there doesn't seem to be any method of 'reporting' posts I only see the 'spam' link in threads, and as I've never clicked it I don't know what it does, there should be a method of reporting posts individually and a way to explain why the member is reporting, spam, scam etc....

This was in place on the last BBS I was a mod at and it helped a great deal (there was just a tiny button with 'Report Link' next to it which then took the members clicking it to a 'report' form) as all reported posts were read by mods and admins 'behind the curtains' and dealt with accordingly, quickly and efficiently.

To report individual posts, click the red triangle to the left of the posters user name.

As for the rest, not bothered tbh. Re the RRP thing though, what about collectors items? I think people should be able to ask what they want, nobody is forcing you to buy at the end of the day.

We don't allow tinyURLs here. And all those points are already in the for sale forum rules.

The 'Reporting' function is explained where ? and what is it to be used for ?

The 'For Sale/Trade' list was an example.... (I made them up!)....

    ie:

    FAQ:

    For Sale/Trade:

    1. Blah blah blah....
    2. Blah blah blah....

    Reporting Posts:

    1. To 'Report' a post please click the red triangle to the left of the posters user name.
    2. Do not report posts just to moan about the price for something (ie: Above RRP)
    3. Blah blah blah....

    External Links:

    1. TinyURL links (and similar masking services) are not allowed.
    2. Blah blah blah....

    Vouchers:
    1. Blah blah blah....
    2. Blah blah blah....

    Blah blah blah....

Where does it say TinyURL's aren't allowed ? (as I've just seen one)

Just because you know what and where doesn't mean all users do and it would be easier just to point people to one place to find out all they need to use the site efficiently rather than keep explaining to people what and where as it just wastes time and resources.

its a good idea, a central page where all rules are clearly stated would probably make life alot easier for mods if they could just say 'post removed cos of rule 2.1 etc then link to the rules page'. i guess expanding on this http://www.hotukdeals.com/trading-rules would be what likely2 is talking about

I used tinyurl last week, didn't realise they were not allowed. TBH I don't have time to sit & read rules & stuff, just kind of use common sense, obviously it failed haha

They may be in the rules, but where are the rules?

It used to be that the rules and guidelines for the For Sale Forum were stickies at the top of every page, and a Mod would always post a list of guideline, including links to the rules on every deal thread. But none of this is the case any more.

The only indication of any rules is a link to the "FS/FT trading advice", which whilst useful, doesn't contaain the actual rules of the site, nor does it contain a link to them.

It's OK for long term members who know the rules, but people using the forum for the first time have no idea that these rules even exist.

As a consequence of the above, since the site has changed, the For Sale forum has had loads of deals that have broken the rules.

Those trading rules should be going back in the box at the top of each post I think.

Thanks, that's good to know. :)
