  Currently, for the advanced search, there is an average delay of 15 minutes (and a maximum delay of 30 minutes) from when a thread is posted before it is searchable.
  
  For the normal search, there is an average delay of 2.5 minutes (and a maximum delay of 5 minutes) from when a thread is posted before it is searchable.
  
  In both cases, this is irrespective of the forum.

  The values were chosen by factoring in the processing requirements of the underlying search technology, the volume(s) of data, the capabilities of the current hardware, and the typical usage patterns. It's a systems thing (not a moderation thing).

  Could explain a few of the dupes where people swear they searched and didn't find anything.
  I suppose if it's down to hardware you may as well expire this then.

  I suppose if it's down to hardware you may as well expire this then.

  Depending on how much of a problem the delay causes, there is always room for reducing it using some tricks. I'll keep it in mind.
