JumpingphilJumpingphil

Searching for "+micro +tesco" without the quotes, is not bringing up the correct results.
See post 1 for better explanation.

See the results of this search and you will see two deals from Tesco in the first 5 posts, depending on how many more have been added since this was posted.
Now do search for micro plus tesco and the two deals are nowhere to be seen.

Are you searching literally for "micro plus tesco" without quotes? Or perhaps "micro tesco" without quotes? "+micro +tesco", "micro + tesco", "micro +tesco", and "micro tesco" all return identical results for me.

Click on the links to see the yellow bar at the top which shows what the search is.

    First link......Advanced Search Results for "+micro +memory"
    Next link......Advanced Search Results for "+micro +tesco"

These were, of course, typed in without the quotes.

Ah sorry. I have my monitor set very dim, and I use Fl.ux so I didn't immediately notice the links in there. Thank you, Phil.

(How about changing the site's Cascading Style Sheet(s) to automatically make links bold?).

I'll put that in the user request queue. It would help me with my weird set-up :).

Thanks for the report JP. It should be fixed now.

Note that it was only affecting the search when the + operator was being used.

Thanks HD... however, note the issue with comment #2 in the same thread:

    (Sorry for intruding, Phil)

Thanks for fixing it, but what is wierd, I did a search for "+micro +amazon", without the quotes, and that seemed to work perfectly well.
I obviously can't show you that now if the search has been altered.

    And fanpages, it's no problem.

No worries, I believe you. The issue was specific to advanced searching when the term "tesco" was followed by the term "direct" in the text.

    Thanks for the explanation.

Not worth starting another thread, so bumping this.

    This deal

    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/despicable-dvd-3-delivered-hmv-1255223

doesn't come up in a search when you use the word "despicable" but it does when you search "me hmv". Which is weird.

Thanks for the note junk4. Currently, it does show for me... it's the last result for default searching; 7th page of results when including expired deals or 1st page of results without expired deals.

    http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_byiWk8LIYPU/S6QvF11bnWI/AAAAAAAAAHc/XAdFF8AW0b0/s320/despicable.jpg

Just typed (well, copied) Despicable Me into the standard "Search" text-box (top right of the "old skin") & two records were in the results set. The deal mentioned by junk4 was the second record.

If it's not an expired deal and only 2 weeks old, why is it on the last page of results if you do include expired ones? I thought non-expired deals always appeared first in the results?

I just typed in despicable into advanced search, and it was 1st result for me. oO

The active/expired parameter influences the ordering (as do the search term frequency, deal age and temperature), but a deal being expired won't force it to the end of the result set. Having said that, I agree with you in that I'd have expected that deal to be closer to the beginning of the result set than to the end. We'll try and take a closer look at what's happening with the ordering there.

I have just noticed (when quoting this thread elsewhere) that the thread [ http://www.hotukdeals.com/feedback/--1021886 ] has been marked as 'spam'.
