It's been brought up a dozen times.
It's not necessary, but they will continue to do so.

There's a discussion in this thread as to the reason why -

As you have done several times. For the same reasons as previously stated in other threads, we lock and post separately for a purpose. It's easier for us to record dates via the post date stamp, likewise members will find this when reporting threads. Searches return the post date, not edit dates within.

Bumps were also increased from 2 to 3 to compensate. On the subject of bulk closures, we do try to stage manage this throughout the day. All fs/ft thread closures should be marked as expired. The member may decide which works better for them, exclude expired or be forced to trawl through an extra page or 2 in order to see the most recent items, but in the satisfaction that they miss nothing.

The bump allowance was increased to take account of the MOD post. When reviewing multiple old threads a MOD post recording a thread lock means that multiple threads don't need to be open to check if they have been locked etc. It's required for the 'behind the scenes' tasks that we need to do.

But if you read through the thread linked above, the discussion covers most of the reasons behind the MOD post, thanks.[/B]

But it isn't is it, it is on the feedback forum which doesnt affect the fs/ft forum

If this is of no importance to YOU, why did YOU bump it?

This is true. The search engine on the site is very poor, however, some have the advantage of their own maintained databases which leaves us mortals at a disadvantage.
