A suggestion to think about ....

on another forum I frequent, rather than having loads and loads of thankyou posts, it is possible to click on a thankyou button and have your name added to the list of people thanking the orginal poster.

Keeps threads very tidy :)

Here is one example... a thankyou button is down on the right hand side, the reply button is over on the left...

Note... we do seem to be wandering off topic though...

Good thoughts Lonecrusader. It's a very obvious problem, and you're right - it will probably only get worse. I think the mods do take care of duplicate posts to some extent, but a points system might work well - some method of discipline would probably help a lot.

Well I am sure admin will have something to say, and as always - it's up to us to make sure our little community stays constructive and resourceful and let the powers that be know what we want, so good job for speaking up

I like that idea! Very simple for thank you's BUT it would lose the the interest of a person to maybe post any reply at all, which in itself could be disappointing for the topic poster.

Perhaps, also, A sticky regarding full instructions on how to use the 'search' function with wild cards etc, wouldnt be a bad idea...

I think that is a good idea + will post one in a moment or two.

you're a hero rayman :)

I also think that a thank-you button would make things less personable, I don't mind reading thank yous on threads really.

getting back to the duplicate posting again!

i fully agree that posts that are dups should not be allowed to be counted as part of the score/tally count for ppl trying to reach a certain target....as ppl get annoyed reading about the same ol thing time and time again

ps.....i have to admit i did dups a few times but i did search for the things that i posted maybe i'm just using the wrong words or sumfin!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I think it's a good point, it would be less personable. The banter that gets going through some of the posts can become very interesting + a little friendliness would be lost without extra to read in there. Also a little lightheartedness now + then keeps a better atmosphere too :D

We all do it now + then :)

There's now a sticky in the Freebie + Odds Are forums so you can see how to search. It might make it a little easier for you.

thats a great idea, or you could go one stage further and have something like the forums at Rpoints.com and slashdot.com have got, and actually allow people to rate other peoples posts. That way you would be able to sift the quality posts from the "crap" ones more easily. And it doesnt seem to stop people commenting on posts on those forums so i dont think it would be a problem...

Don't get so bogged down with rules.
What makes this site so interesting is the banter and the feedback. I spend a lot of my time alone, and I enjoy the friendliness on this site. It's not just about who can post most replies.

That is a very nice + true comment. I agree with you completely about the friendliness + feedback.

The rules do matter though + comments/suggestions are the best way to discuss them in a friendly community manner.

Thanks Christmasshopper!
