Conversely, we'd see lots of deals that won't be expired when they are, and deals getting Expired and unexpired continuously.

bad idea!

most expired deals are correct. The odd few mistakes soon get mod unexpired quickly

it would be a nightmare if anyone could unexpire a deal

expire count is just right too.

Say the current expired vote count is 3 (im guessing) what if the unexpire vote count was also 3.

Why would 3 different people unexpire an expired deal...?

All i know is it's very irritating when i look at expired threads and find out about 40% of them arent really expired :/

For the same reason that 3 people would expire it in the 1st place?

Many people seem to expire deals just because they dont like the product, or because they want to stand more chance at getting the item.
Cant see any corresponding reasons to falsely unexpire a deal tbh.

I dunno, maybe this is just a pet peeve of mine, or maybe you miss most of the falsely expired deals because they're dealt with before you see them...

Source of this?

people get infracted by constantly expiring for no valid reason

My eyes + common sense?

so you :-

1. Know exactly who expired the deal

2. Can read their mind too lol

If you see a deal that's got Expired status, but isnt really expired (after going through basket/etc.), but is for a controversial product (i.e. playboy styled rubbish for kids, chinese lanterns, etc.) or is for an item that's a misprice that some people might believe they stand a better chance at getting if less people order it, etc.
Then common sense would give you some indication as to why it was falsely expired...?

Or would i be wrong to draw those conclusions? :/ lol

Edit:
Anyway, this is all getting a bit pointless, hopefully the mods/devs think there's some merit in this idea.
Should be a minor change that would lead to a lessened workload i'd think, but again, i could be wrong.

Thanks for implementing the raised limit on expiry votes, seems there's much fewer problems with that now.

However can we get the "spam vote" limit raised too? seems that a fair amount of things are getting wrongly spammed now.

I also requested a while back that we have a "duplicate" button in addition to expire/spam, think that'd be useful in cutting down the number of wrongly removed threads...

What about changing to a 'Flag' button that gave the option Spam/Duplicate/Expired/Other. Kind of like on Fo.lk

What would that change from what it already does when you expire and spam?

Can't see those buttons on fo.lk, probably because i havent got an account there/i'm not signed in.

That idea might work though, trouble is it would increase the chances of pressing the wrong button.
Anything that introduces a "Duplicate" button would be good though.

The main thing that's needed is a change to the way deals are spammed IMO.
Too many legitimate deals are getting removed for "spam" atm and it's a big hassle to get them unspammed.

The "duplicate" option would probably go a long to fixing that, and possibly raising the "spam vote limit" might help too.
Raising the limit could also cause other unwanted side effects though, like giving a longer advertising window to dodgy posts, etc.

Perhaps add a confirmation/warning to the "spam" button, saying if it's misused you can have your account suspended. And possibly telling people to use the "duplicate" button to report dupes, etc.
That would probably solve most of the false spams without the mods even having to do anything.

If this is implemented i'd also make the original deal's URL mandatory for reporting a dupe

Cheers in advance if this is sorted

Another Edit: Dunno if it's worth considering having the "dupe removal" act as a bump for the original deal, seeing as dupes often happen when a deal is a bit buried. But that could introduce further problems, and might not be worth the hassle...

Bump.
Still getting deals mistakenly removed by people wrongly spamming, or wrongly thinking something's a dupe.

was just thinking of posting this idea myself(unexpire button) but found this old thread, noticed alot of good deals lately incorrectly expired, or ones that went out of stock but then came back in.

can't see any reason why an unexpire button would cause any problem if it required more than 1 person to do it.
