I totally agree with you grex......they not a Hot Deal so shouldnt be posted as such.
If OP wanted to share how good they are should of been posted as misc information only
#2
grex could have just said that nicely why such a hoo haa about it 'welcome to hot uk deals where everyone jumps on your back if you post something thats not on offer' (even though it was voted hot)
#3
40mins later and 2 replies...guess people that don't like it just ignore it.

100% right BB - Best advice there is. if you don't like a deal then walk on by....(it takes a lot less time than creating a thread complaining).

If you feel you want to 'educate' the OP then vote cold & explain your reasoning.

People are now too scared to vote cold as people demand answers.

considering how many deals are voted cold within minutes of being posted for no reason, i find that hard to believe.
So what anyway, if its available cheaper whats wrong with voting cold and saying 'its only £xx here'?
#10
What is a hot deal? something cheap or something reduced

And if people dont know that something cheap exists at its normal price then know so buy it ,then its a deal
#11
If it's a standard, everyday price, then it is NOT a deal.

A deal is surely a price reduction, a multibuy promotion or an "extra free" offer.

Not necessarily, it could also be an item which is priced much lower than the same item elsewhere.

If a website sells something for £5 all year round, but all other sites charge £10 or more for it... surely it's a deal? :)

Maybe you are but cant believe people are 'scared' of voting cold. If people demand a reason then thats up to them. I hardly ever give one.

I agree with this too.

I'd like to see HDMI cable deals banned as well. Or if not banned, I'd like a clause added to the forum rules which says that if anyone posts another totally average HDMI cable deal, their IP address will be published, their home address may be derived from it, and we're all entitled to go round to theirs, tie them up, beat them with sticks, and loot their homes for everything they're worth. Steal their credit cards, too. Fair enough, if it's 20p delivered for a cable. But the weekly HDMI cable deal is always the same generic cable, always for roughly the same price, and it always stirs the same arguments. And I know there's the "Oh, but it's good to give people reminders" argument (which also gets dragged out whenever someone tells us of SayNoTo0870 every tuesday), but if anyone is stupid enough to be duped into paying £40 for an HDMI cable, they deserve the Stupid Tax.

I did a search over the last 3 months, and only found 9 deals for HDMI to HDMI cables.
I did not click them to see if they are still available, but that doesn't seem a great amount.

These are moved to "Misc", but I do agree with you.

So we're talking nearly one a week, even after the mods have taken their axe to however many duplicate threads. It's pretty tiresome. I stand by my rule request.

Doesnt really bother me. However what does bug me are in the incessant duplicate questions that appear on nearly a daily basis. You know the ones I mean:-

What is the best anti-virus?

any free decent firewalls out there?

how does quidco work

Any decent holiday sites?

EVERY DAY!!

Maybe the SEARCH button needs to be made ten times bigger ;)

You never said anything about dupes, you seemed to be talking about average deals.
Nearly 1 a week is hardly excessive.

God, yes. A pop-over of a giant fashing arrow pointing towards it would be good too, just in case.

It really does amaze me how little initiative people seem to have. Another thing that winds me up is these tards that ask for help with some sort of computer problem, who seem not to realise that "my computer" means a good deal less to us than it means to them. Likewise, "it doesn't work". Muh? How?

Are people really so thick that they think people can solve problems without knowing anything about the situation, or are they just incredibly lazy? It's like, take that thread by Sassie or someone like her, where her wireless didn't work for some reason. Simple issue, could've been troubleshooted and solved within about five steps, or about ten posts. Instead, she gives absolutely no information away, and at some point nearing the 200 post mark, she somehow flukes a fix for it. And that sort of thing is typical around these parts. It's stupid.

I'm talking about average deals that are completely pointless. HDMI cables are cheap. They just are. If there's one for £3, it's not an OMG 5000c HOT DEAL, it's just the price of them. They're things you buy once, and forget about. They aren't special. It's akin to my local Sainsbury's having a giant sign at their entrance advertising cheese graters as being whatever the typical market price is for cheese graters, and then maybe reiterating their totally normal price for their cheese graters by excitedly announcing it over the PA every week or so. We all need cheese graters. We all need HDMI cables. I'd hope that most people are clever enough to be capable of searching for cheese graters and HDMI cables themselves when they're required, and don't need to wait four more days for someone to post a new 'hot deal' for them.

Remember, this website doesn't have unlimited space for hot deals, nor do I have unlimited patience to read through them all. A cheap 1080p TV, that's something interesting. A normal-priced cable for said TV, that's just a waste of space. Unless there's any particular reason you can think of that HDMI cables are any more worthy of space than, say, a cheese grater.

Agreed. Nearly as annoying are people's lack of sense when asking advice in regards to a proper title.

A title like 'help' or 'PC is going to get very little attention whereas

'help please with finding a gatwick flight next week'

or

'Help - PC fails to start - 3 short beeps on bootup'

will draw a lot more attention from importantly, the correct people to answer.

You don't need to read through them all though.

The point I am making is that I searched for HDMI cables during the last 3 months and got 9 returns, this to me is not excessive, also baring in mind that I do not even know if any out of the 9 are still available.

So tell me dxx, who is the biggest "tard" (your word not mine) the person making these inane posts for help or the member who can't skip a thread when they know it's going to wind them up ?

You know you really should try and understand that not everyone has the same obvious high IQ and all round knowledge that you possess and therefore you need to make a life decision to either help these lower castes or pass them by gracefully.

If you don't do this you are surely going to shorten your life span with a stroke or heart attack.
Live and let live Sir, it's a good saying and will serve you and your health well.

I'm serious here, reading your posts is like watching someone blowing up a balloon, you know that sooner or later it's going to go bang, it's just a matter of when ??
And why on earth doesn't that someone take a step back and stop blowing ??

Take care :)

Without meaning offence and getting in the way of your obvious dispute with dxx (:?), it does belittle the idea of hot deals when the first two pages are continually taken up by the silly quiz posts and 'mint sauce for 5p' and 'PC' and 'how does quidco work etc etc'.

Just my take on things but it has become a real chore on here now to find a good deal or a good topic of convo, Please excuse my post on 'Summer of 2008' :-D

Seriously thinking of changing my home page now to 'goanddosomethinglessboringthanmonitorhotdealsallday.com' ;-)

maybe supermarketdealsoftheday.com would be more exciting...............

thats me done, pssed up and off to watch tv lol

I don't have a dispute with dxx or anyone else for that matter and I can quite agree on some of the gripes especially your observation about good topics of "convo".

I'm more concerned with anyone that can't just pass by the stuff to which they have no interest.

I was being serious and concerned. It's just not good for your health to get THAT heated about a Deals website and forum.

If the powers that be deem it bad for the site I'm sure there will be action taken as was the case in the Congratulations Threads.
In the meantime why not live and let live ??

My opinion of course. :)
