Good idea.

Better one would be no one under 500 posts are allowed to trade.

Nothing stopping them selling several high value items on one thread.

I've dealt with brand new members several times and haven't been scammed once. No need for change if you ask me.

think westham need a complete change of squad rediron :p

well i think that would be included aswell, 1 item 1 thread....keep doing this until they prove they can be trusted......i get what you are saying about keeping to rules and guidelines and you will never get ripped off (well you might but you will have a way of getting your money back ie using contact details) but as you can see from the regular "i think ive been scammed" threads on misc it happens alot and before you know it that person will have 4 negative feedbacks all from people who have been had, at least this way if someone does try to scam on the site, they will only at best rip off one member.

Yeah it's a good point (not about West Ham :x we'll be OK :-D) but with the new profiles it's pretty easy to see what the seller has been up to recently and you can make your mind up from there.

It would also be very hard to moderate the seller offering items on other users threads as presumably you'd want to limit that too but I don't see how you'd be able to control that.

hmm, post count isnt that important tho is it, very easy to get 500posts in little or no time at all, around 7000 of my posts were made very quickly just being bored at work, i dont think someone with 20k posts should be trusted anymore than someone with 10posts ....i quite like the 5-10 positive feedback idea, was just thinking that it would have been discussed before.

You are right - it easy to get, but would will stop the drive by scammers...

You know the sort, you see an iphone thread for a low price and immediately you know before clicking the poster will:

*be new
*have no feedback
*no posts

I just think 500 covers most of the active usergroup, but high enough to stop the real dregs of society.

not sure what this would solve, one thread doesnt mean one item, but im all for one thread per member no matter what their post/rep count is

I've never worked out why that hasn't been tightened up - you could post pages worth of threads without breaking a rule? Is there any limit at all (haven't read the rules for time brah)

Nah.... Real Dregs of society still use the FS forum and have over 500 posts. I'm sure of that.

Actually I completely agree.

Hopefully once there are acceptable sections within the new fo.lk side of things, we can have a one thread per section rule. I wouldn't want one thread in total as members would then either have a title of a thread as

Loads...see inside!

or

XBox games, playstation games, nintendo goodies, dvd player and seven dvds (lost boxset, etc), 2 brand new blurays, a couple of mobile phones and some other stuff that is mega cheep!!!! Come in and have a look something for everyone

well im sayin 1 thread = 1 item as a rule for ppl with less than 5 positive feedbacks.

the main aim was to cut down the amount of people a person can scam before gettin found out, just think them only having 1 thread at a time and having to wait for it to b completed ie both people leaving feedback was a good way to slow the scammer down than have multiple scamming threads at a time.

But why should people have more than 1 thread anyway? Regardless of post count...

It's certainly a good idea. I'm all for new members joining up just for the FS/FT section, as for me, it's an integral part of the community and i've had a lot of good transactions there. So I don't think there should be a minimum post to list an item.

I just wonder how well it can be implemented for those based on feedback :)

well as long as they dont over bump their threads, still send out all of the items and everyones happy i dont see why they cant unless you think some people are clogging up the site with their items and others with just 1 thread are getting drowned out?...

if so i guess 1 thread rule for everyone could be implimented, i think thats looking at it from a different angle which could possibly kill two birds with one stone (if u do infact think that trustworthy members having multiple fs threads open is a problem) i was just thinking about scammers...

I think Vibeone and Sassie are pointing out the problem of multiple threads from a 'clogging up' point of view. I too feel their pain, mainly with posts of 'childrens clothes' and when all 'bumped' at the same time!!

Your solution towards a safer community is a good one!

Yes but it could be abused.

I'm selling a few things next week. All different stuff, all within the rules, but theres about 30 different items.... I'll post 1 per thread, and block out page 1 with vibeone's bargain zone?

hehe.

I just don't see the need personally.

ye i agree, maybe the mods would see 1 thread(and one item) until a member has 5+ feedback as too strict im not sure....i think once fo.lk gets sorted tho that board might be much harder to moderate than before, i know a good lot of members who used to help report things and go out of their way to help others not to get scammed etc but if its not going to b as connected to the site as it is now i think admin will have to take on extra people to moderate that board.

agreed. However I think everyone is underestimating the amount of people who sign up to use FS/FT and how many people report threads. I think there are numerous of both which wil make fo.lk very succesful :)

yeah i agree, alot of people would just sign up for fs, i cant blame them, since i was gone i tried ebay and the fees meant that i ended up losing money initially as i had not realised how outrageous they were. i know alot of people do report threads at the minute and i hope you are right and that they will continue to do so even when the site branches off from hukd....im a tad sceptical but then again, employing 2 more staff who work as hard as asb does would solve that problem instantly

I think some members would become regulars there and drop in to check the deals here, just as there will be regulars here who check the FS/FT over there, if you see what I mean. FS/FT is getting better and better at 'self policing' however I agree another aSB or two would help!

as i havent been around for a while im not sure what this folk thing is supposed to be, is it to eventually get rid of the fs board on hukd? had a look round and it looks far to much hard work to me, if it is to replace the fs board i agree with ace and think people will branch away from it, maybe it is a way for hukd to get rid of that board but not sure its problems will remain away from hukd, as threads over there get locked when people get scammed then it will still pour into misc, or will this no longer be allowed as its really nothing to do with hukd. i have never seent he need for any of this, there has been many suggestions over the years to help make the fs board better, fairer, etc,etc and have to say most of it completely ignored

a limit to threads would have also limited members bumping threads and knocking other threads off, would have also reminded members to get threads locked, etc, etc,

I think fo.lk is an answer to many of the feedback threads asking for more functionality in that section of HUKD. Hopefully with continued feedback it will grow in to a useful tool for those who use FS/FT

Oh I agree - but even so what does it achieve allowing brand new users to use the FS board immediately? I don't doubt it was reported a lot, but its still a waste of time to go through the process of asking for pics or locking it.

If the FS board is there for the HUKD community as admin has said, maybe you should be an current active member, rather than these people who join clearly just to sell - and usually to rip people off.

I wish there was a way to tell how many 1000+ posters joined just to use fs/ft initially but have become some of the 'regulars'. I think we would all be surprised! I have never liked the idea of postcount being used for anything, and prefer the idea of pre-approved posts in fs/ft or indeed acecatchers original thoughts in the op
#23
The 500 post idea is good as it does take a while to reach 500 posts and also if they immediately start selling after 500 that should bring up a few alerts.
