if the thread contains just the word "Bump" then your declaring an explicit bump, 2 max is what I do on them.

any other thread you post should be kept to replying to someones question or statements as long as they are relevant to the item being sold, if not then report the persons thread for off-topic or thread spoiling, as replying to them could be seen as implicit bumping and you could be reported.

If you post a reply but dont include the quoted statement from the person your replying to then this could be perceived as implicit bumping and could be reported.

If all of the above is complete tosh then I've been lucky so far...lol as thats the guide I use from what I've read and seen etc.

brown nose the likes of the saint and then they wont report you for it and its very rare mods notice such things unless its blatantly obvious your bumping IMHO

ryouga, I wasn't involved in your thread, but I've just had a look at it. As well as the 2 posts marked you also posted a number of times in succession & this is also classed as bumping (no-one else posted between your posts). Anyone should edit their reply rather than posting again directly below their previous reply as it still acts as a bump & moves their FS Thread ahead of other members threads unfairly. In your FIFA thread I count 5 bumps in total > Posts #3, #10, #18, #26 & #27. If you need to add info just click edit under your post & update it, you can also add a reason if you want for clarification.

(17) Continuous 'bumping' of threads to promote your sale without good reason, may result in deleted posts or threads. Please edit your last reply in the thread rather than 'bump' with new replies and a maximum of TWO BUMPS in total.

Hope that clears it up a bit more, & sorry for jumping in

bump!

We have to be careful guv, because while I know they are a lot of rule abiding members, there are some that would deliberately split their posts as a hidden bump if it was allowed. It would be difficult to say who was adding info & who was splitting to bump.

Bumping is something that is regularly member reported so it's something that the FS Forum members personally feel very strongly about. It is very easy to click edit & add the extra info underneath rather than just post in a fresh box. And if someone were to do a new post, it still wouldn't stop them editing the old one anyway. Members aren't being asked to scroll back pages, just to read one post rather than 2 consecutive ones. Once someone else has posted in thread, then OP can post a fresh reply again.

If you were to say it was okay for some & not others to post successive posts then that would lead to more problems as it would be based on a subjective decision, & members would compare their threads with others to see why decisions differed. We really need a uniform set of rules that are clear & concise for everyone to follow.

Just stick to the general rule of thumb and advice and there wont be any problems with your post..... :whistling:

Guv, I'm perhaps missing your point as well - I think the edit part is only if the seller is the last person to post in the thread, if a buyer has posted since then another post from the seller if it contains any useful information is ok. However the seller can add data to the original post and that seems the best place to put it as that way the data is clear across all the pages although of course it doesn't bump the thread which is why some sellers don't do it I guess.

What tends to happen at the moment is that a FS thread will stall and the seller will start adding replies to their own posts without anyone else posting despite the fact they could have edited their previous post or the original post such as:

Offers of 220 pounds considered

Pics uploaded

215 pounds considered

Bump #1

Any offers at all?

Will consider a PSP for trade etc.

There's no reason to add that all to separate posts apart from artificially bumping the post up the board. As it stands I think the moderators are generally fairly reasonable.

I was going to say something along the lines of what guv said but I couldn't be bothered to write it all. So I'm glad someone did! I know what you mean and I agree (for once!!)

Is it possible to disable the "discussed" tab in FS? I guess it's not possible but would mean that no-one could bump their stuff.

OK John... to be clearer on your own scenario

seller FS item >> Main deal listing

seller photo >> 1st post seller

Offer £X >> 2nd post buyer

seller Sorry too low >> 3rd post seller

Bump 1 >> 1st consecutive bump by seller

Bump 2
>> 2nd consecutive bump by seller ** thread locked **

Its available for £X here [>> buyer - ok]

Guv the reply highlighted in red wouldn't be a bump because other people had posted inbetween. It would only be classed as a bump if comment was made straight after bump2 before anyone else posted. It's consecutive posts ie #2,#3#4, not #2,#3,#6 . The thread would be locked though at 2nd bump as it was the 3rd consecutive post. But that's the only place it would be classed as bumping

Surely it wouldn't be locked after the second bump? The first post of the three consecutive posts was a response to an offer, how can that be classed as a bump? :?

Surely bigbob909 didnt just get suspended for bumping this thread twice?

Nothing to do with this thread Guv, plus bumping rule only applies to FS/FT not Feedback & the other Forums

LOL... This gets more complicated as it goes!!:w00t:

The first one you were counting as a bump was answering a question! He is allowed 2 bumps isnt he? Still cant fathom why you would lock on his second bump? Was it purely because he posted 3 times consecutively? If it is, it sounds like you're really only allowing one bump?

So, you lock the thread on the second? I'm assuming he gets a slap for that then (else why would you lock?)

Sounds like a minefield!

From your example I wouldn't have thought it would be counted as breaching the rule, if the seller had replied again after the box comment then to me that would be two bumps and anymore would be a breach of the rules.

According to Sigma she said the thread would have been locked. Dont seem right to me!

In that example there are 3 posts by the seller in a row. Even though the first one isn't a bump it is a bump if you see what I mean.

I see what the mods mean about the fact you could keep on updating threads to keep yours at the top. Something has to be in place to stop that happening.

....Now further down, they have added info completely relevant for the item being sold, which I would argue needs prominance - not be hidden in an edited post on the previous page.

This thread is giving me white hairs ;-). If the seller/buyer needs to answer an additional query further down the thread after a discussion by the interested parties, it wouldn't be classed as a bump. They can post more than twice in total in their thread. As long as they were providing some new info after someone else has posted & not just typing then it's fine.

Some FS thread can go on for 4/5 pages if there are a lot of items listed & the seller is allowed to answer the various questions & mark items sold etc without any problem. They may have to post 15 times legitimately for example in one thread. So we don't count the total number of posts, but (incl any posts with no merit to sale eg "hello, still available" etc) or a string of consecutive posts.
