Maybe admin doesn't want the mods to stand out so much ;-) I think he has said it before somewhere but he hopes for the forum to get more and more member controlled.... with the use of your spam buttons/ expiry buttons etc etc

Apologies Sassie, I hadn't realised you had posted about this before. 2 years 4 months down the line though and the membership has increased incredibly and day by day there are far more newbies about as well as more than a villages fair share of idiots.

Maybe the thinking is the same now as then, would be interesting to know though.

Mod's are welcome to lock this thread in light of Sassie's post above and if the answer is the same.

Sorry to bump this but I think this is an important issue and I agree with Hotto. The site and more importantly the attitudes of members are radically different from 3 years ago. If anything (due to the volume of members and the irresponsibility of many others) the site is less controlled by members. For new members it can be confusing, so a clearly defined Avatar for the Mods would help but at the moment I don't think its clear enough. Out of 200kplus members how many of those can recognise the mods easily?

Did you mean show the whole thread that you had linked a post to earlier?

If you click on your link at the top right of the page there is a link to

Thread: Different colour names for mods in the list please

just click on that

Lol, no problems sassie, there are other ways to do it for example using your original link

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/92969/different-colour-names-for-mods-in-/showpost.php?p=904773&postcount=21

just delete this part of it

I agree with the above. A new member can post and get a response in seconds from someone they think is a moderator/admin when infact it's someone using the bold style or indeed pretending to answer their question just for the fun of it. A definite way of differentiating between the moderators and those who choose to comment (normally when only a moderators response is required) would be good

Using different colours is only helpful if they cater for all forms of colour-vision deficiency (colour-blindness). Some colour-schemes implemented across web browsers (desktop, laptop, & handheld devices) do not render the same explicit colour the same either. Handheld devices (such as mobile telephones) cause another issue in the fact that some screens are not capable of displaying the same range of colour (depth) & the differentiating between coloured member names may not be as obvious as it could be.

As another suggestion; there is plenty of space beside a member's user name & the date of a comment to add some descriptive text such as "(Moderator)".

Also, perhaps a "Moderator" badge could always be present as one of the (maximum of) four displayed beneath a Moderator's avatar. Not as obvious immediately but it may not be as intrusive as other suggestions & may then try to satisfy previous criteria about (normal) member-centric control.

Finally, Gary rip’s "BETA Mod Stalker" could be implemented, maybe not in the same way; perhaps just a link at the bottom of every page (with the "HUKD Tools and API" list) to complement the "Contact" link.

In fact, displaying which Moderators are online when you click the "Contact" link may be an indication of how soon you can expect a reply before you submit a message to the site.

BFN,

fp.
