I saw a link to the new site the day before it went live, don't know if people were invited to do any testing though.
Mincer, I already answered your question in the other thread, go have a read

Like there are only 2 threads - care to be a bit more specific?
Edit : Sorry that sounded a bit more abrupt then intended.

Cheers for that - found it but you beat me to it - posted in 'feedback' as well.
A rough count gives me 19 different people responding most of which seem to be Mods or Solarflares.
Thorough testing then - by your average bod?
Yes, as you can see from Richie's link above, the beta site was open to the public for 2 or 3 days.

Nowhere near long enough, should've been advertised in the deals section (before you say its not a deal, like the HUKD comps where advertised in the deals section), it should've been after christmas aswell.

Ho hum.....

Emma - thanks for helping me illustrate a point - 2 to 3 days are not enough and Why oh why wasn't it a Sticky at the top of every forum?

I know I'm basically 'picking at a scab' but I was fed up with Mods and Admin just saying we had a chance to test without qualifying it!
Also the offer was to comment on what was 'broke' and we weren't supposed to comment (moan) on the content or functionality.

Basically we got very little time to test and the 'offer' was both limited and virtually buried.
When are people going to learn, nothing will change, no matter what anyone says or does or how long they protest, the Admin will do whatever they want, when they want, regardless of what the users think, some will leave, after all it's not the only place to go now is it, but new users will come and replace the leavers without moaning because they've never seen it before and the admin will carry on earning money regardless.

Get over it, leave or stay and get on with it, because that's the owners view and nothing will change that, NOTHING!

It almost seems that you reckon this was a justifiable period of testing time, c'mon you know it's not, everyone else knows it's not, including Admins and other Mods, Just no-one seems to have the baws to admit it for one reason or another.

HUKD was a great site, but primarily because of user content, but you know what happens when users feel discontentment, they move away as soon as an alternative appears, or they return to previous hunting grounds.

It's a real pity that the approach taken has alienated so many users and that any benefits intended to be delivered as a result of the 'upgrade/redesign' have been lost to so many. This site will prove to be an invaluable reference to anyone dealing with a similar project for all the wrong reasons.

Personally I'd have been a little embarrased to have rolled out the site in the state it was at launch, regardless of the reason.

Still, keep up the good work in your moderations, always been appreciated to date.

personally I'm finding this very very hard to use.... I guess it was because the other site was so easy to use..... The latest deals would appear on the main page.. then you had the chance to go see what other things were happening in the forum....

Now it's all mixed up together you don't really know whats going on... if it a deal, a question, an old offer that someone has replied too.... It's just all to confusing :(

No one seems to have known at all - I used to visit several times a day and never saw any info about a new layout coming. If any one needs a case study in how to manage a bad change in the worst way possible then I don't think you can beat this farce and the attitude of "Admin" to the "whingers and moaners".

I mostly used MSE until HUKD took off as there were better deals here and they were easily accessible. Now I've gone back to MSE as you can't find ****** all here without having to take two paracetamol afterwards...
i really don't think the log in problems were totally down to the site not working properly but de to the high numbers of people using hotukdeals.... the reason why it now seems to work is that everyone gets so confused with it and has gone elsewhere (maybe).

Is there anyway of having a vote "out of interest" to see which site people like best?

I must admit over the past 2years hotukdeals was the 1st website I went to when I turn the internet on... but now I find it far too complicated to just have a really quick scan to see what everyone has found.

I must admit alot of effort must have gone into making this and it's really great how u can click on the tabs above to change the results... but I think it's far too much for those who just like things to be simple!
Please can you run a hotukdeals2 website in the old format :):)
I have to agree there didn't seem much of an attempt to get the site tested by it's users.
The link i posted above wasn't the one I saw the day before it went live. I just came across another link someone posted.
After clicking on it I genuinely thought it was a dodgy site someone had created to try and copy HUKD, I didn't realise it was a site update until the next day when it went live.

I'm starting to get to grips with it now, and can see there are lots of advantages over the old site, but it's really down to the way it went live thats caused all the problems.
Far too many obvious bugs, and deffinately not user friendly, which a site like this had to be.
Look at the old site, I wrote a 3 page help/faq because of the questions people asked, and that was 10 times easier to navigate than this site.

Give it time and hopefully most if not all the issues will get sorted, but I still feel it will never be as user friendly as the previous site and will often take longer to perform each action. But maybe the extra features will outweigh the difficulty/time of using the site.

Only today though have I seen Admin admit the following:

I think you're right the.capt. I'll be posting a summary in the next few days but I think you're right that it was too much too fast...
I've just found an amazing button..

What happened to HUKD?!?

(For classic forum view click on Text Only view option)
Now in Text Only it's far more pleasing ..... think I will now have a littl eplay around and get to grips with all these tabs.....

It was a little sudden... it's like going to work and find out all the windows/ doors and desks have been moved around and painted a different colour.... OK there all still there but not where you remembered them :p
