It's the beginning of the day and I pull out my Android-powered smartphone in order to browse my favourite website - HotUKDeals.
I noticed a "deal" and decide to comment, but what's this, "An error has occurred" (or similar).
I try to post a deal, but what's this. "There was a problem submitting your thread", due to what exactly?
Time and time again I find myself not bothering with the app purely because of it's frequent crashes, lack of user-focused design and quite frankly overall, instability. I've studied User-experience design and can say a error message that doesn't help a user correct their mistake, is poor. An error message simply stating "There was a problem submitting your thread" is poor. Why isn't the user told how to correct their mistake or told the reason why there was an error submitting a thread?
The website does a clear indication of these errors but it just feels the developers have been "lazy" to some degree by simply including a generic error message.
The actual website(s) are, to some extent where things could be better, much more usable and I find myself time and time again uninstalling the app then installing it in the future hoping these would be correct.
Don't get me wrong, maybe it's just me who has the beef and the bad experience but being a loyal member for around 8 years and longer with others going back to when it first started, and seeing that we don't have a solid app with good ux design is just poor. It has great potential but I certainly think a UX re-design is something to be heavily considered as are more features to make it on par with the website (why can't we browse for images on the desktop version when posting a thread?!).
As long as this site is running then I'll be using it but until the app changes it'll remain uninstalled from my phone.
What is going on HotUKDeals?!
TL;DR - When are we going to be seeing an overhaul of mobile app for both iOS and Android in terms of UX design and stability?
