It happens a lot. People can post at similar times, they don't know how to search properly or don't look back at the previous deals list as they are submitting their deals. Excitement takes over sometimes :). Best thing to do is post in thread that it's a duplicate & give link to original deal them click SPAM button (NOT expired). Deals over 1mth old can be reposted if there's been no recent activity in thread according to Admins general guidance

Just need to let people gain a little experience

If you see dupes, please click spam on them, and if possible, post a note in the thread with the link to the original post, and ask other forum members to please click spam on it too.

Also, if you really want to, please use the report button to tell mods that a dupe needs removing, if you want to expedite the process.

All we can do is actively encourage newbies to search before posting, and possibly point them in the direction of the help threads on the box on the right of the forums. :)

If the original post isn't tagged or titled properly it won't appear in the searches you do ... happened to me just this week.

so what does 'spam' mean in the context of HUKD?

can't simply mean duplicate post surely?
#7
What actually happens when something is spammed - cos it still seems to sit there and people can add comments ... does it just go on a looksie list for the mods or something? thanks

I know a minimum of two members hitting the spam button will remove the specific post from view & move it to a board for MOD attention. The more who hit it on a duplicate the quicker it will be moved

from emmajk's guidance post :

The spam button

You can click the spam button on any post you feel is actual spam, referrals, 3rd party affiliate links, eBay auctions, Amazon marketplace deals, a dodgy site, or a duplicate post. If you feel it is any of these, it would be great if you could also use the report button (see below) to immediately notify a moderator.

A quick post in the thread saying something like: “post reported because of xxxx reason, please do not bump”, is also a good idea. If it is a duplicate post, please don’t be nasty to the poster, being civil costs nothing, so a quick, “sorry, but you have posted a duplicate, please see here”… and include link.

As deals are submitted by members, it's up to us as the community to encourage people to try and help people post deals in the best way. A few words of encouragement to the OP to point them in the right direction doesn't hurt :) (I mean if you see a post with a very uninformative title or something)

My pet hate is when someone expires a top deal just because its out of stock and then sets the deal up again as their own once its back in stock. I always spam these :)

I hope you report the 1st deal to be "Un-expired" first, otherwise people will miss out.
