Generally speaking, we say a month but it also depends on whether prices have changed during that month, the last time the thread was bumped, whether the item was in stock for the entire month the thread was live, whether there's another factor such as a voucher to take into account....

Which deals do you mean in particular?
banned#2
no nothing has changed and threads where posted in recently, just dont want to be spamming a dupe then getting a roasting for it, oh and do quidco and vouchers that have been around forever count, so if someone posts something for an item at £10 then a week later someone posts the same item but adds quidco and the rac play voucher for example, does that make it a new deal, couldnt they have been added to other deal

Which one is it?
banned#4
i thought even if expired, and they came back into stock then the old thread should be unexpired, not a new deal put up
[helper]#5
Sorry to intrude but I was wondering this too and I thought it was ok to spam dupes. Also its a bit tiresome people reposting stuff thats just over 1 month since it was last posted when there hasnt been a significant change in price, for example the Trident splash 10p posts.

Again it totally depends on how long it's been expired for..

If you think something's a duplicate posting then post a link in the thread and spam it. Or report the thread so we can check it out- members wouldn't get in trouble for trying to be constructive.

If you go through posts happily spamming every single one, then that's a different matter :)

no not at all, just have noticed it a few times, and then two threads today, if its all down to this discretion malarky then i wont bother spamming, because why waste my time and yours

To be honest we need members like you who use the report function, and who know the rules to keep doing what you're doing. Again, if you come across a thread and you realise it's a dupe, or you think it's a dupe- go ahead and spam it. If you're not sure then fire in a report.

the thing is though the new mod buzz word "discretion" is putting a lot of members off reporting anything.

If there is no definite rule then of course we have to use discretion and common sense- we can only do what we think is right. Not every member on this site will agree with every decision we make, but we are trying our best so if we make mistakes then tell us. If you disagree with something we decide, let us know. That's all we can do :)

so juliet, i posted the threads, did you have a look

[B]Hi Sassie

That will have been my post then.

Really, I can only echo what JB has said already. If you spot a dupe report it and it will be removed if it is a dupe.
From HUKD rules RE duplicate posts - “Any thread over one month old would be fair enough to receive a repost if there is a price drop or not, as this allows newer members to receive notification of that deal. With site membership increasing as fast as it is, that would become more significant for new users, as it would be unlikely for them to easily stumble across a month old thread.”

There has to be a point were a deal can be reposted, and a month from when it was first posted seems a reasonable length of time. Unless you scroll through pages or specifically go looking for a particular product then a good deal will be missed if it's over a month old. Of course, you can check "discussed" but the majority of users check new/hot deals and to get past 1 month old posts I estimate you will be on page 300 to 400 if you are looking through new deals.
But the best way to cut down on dupes is, and this is for every HUKD user to report http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/images/custom_buttons/report.gif the post.

so a thread that has been up a month and posted in recently is fair to post again, it seems goal posts are being moved to whom the op is, sorry that is how it looks, and fair play to you for posting cause you have just opened it up for everyone to post anything that is still getting replies and heat as long as original post was a month ago

but does make it easier for us that do spam dupes, easy now to just check if opening post was over 1 month ago

pretty sad that people probably scour the boards for other peoples deals that are coming up to a month old from opening post, but each to their own i suppose

so in theory you are allowed to repost ANY deal thats over one month old no matter when the last comment was made.

so if I had the inclination I could then go and repost this deal as its over one month old even though it was only commented on a day ago( which by the way is a fairly dubious comment, but thats another report).

and yes it's too hot to sleep and I am extremely bored:p

it seems so, pretty damn stupid if you ask me, but no one did so i will now shut up

I have to disagree why is it stupid if you saved money from a deal that someone posted a month ago. Talk went quiet and no one knew whether it was still or not, or new members never saw it. Then if it was me on the recieving end I'd want to know.

Another point to the admins, its in there interest to encourage this as it makes them money in the end. Nothing negative for them allowing it.

im not on about threads that have gone quiet. what is the difference between a thread posted a month ago and had no postings for a week and thread posted two weeks ago and had no postings for week?

but if this is the way its now down who am i to argue, just seems stupid a thread that may have been bumped 3 days ago can be relisted as long as the op was a month ago, post 2 seems to suggest it does matter when it was last bumped, post 18 suggests otherwise

I agree with your bumping bit, but its no longer in the thread beginning its no longer in recent hot deals, its no longer in the hot deals of the week nor the today or 3 days or even the month, so it has a smaller effect on new members and some less experienced members as well as experienced members its not useless but on the verge of being. Not everyone is on the same level of searching the content as everyone else. The deal has a lot better chances of getting someone a bargain if posted newly.

I think the threads would be better if they were somehow archieved. As theres still hundreds of deals and content thats completely useless from 2-3 years ago.

in that case why not make it a week since posting, or 3 days, or 1 day, if its about remaing a hot deal for all to see

I'm guessing its because from what I see of really hot deals usually still being talked about 3-4 weeks later.

I didn't make the rule :whistling:

But I don't think theres a problem with it, I saw a deal that was more relevant now due to the change in PS3 technology and I reposted it after the month period but I'd spotted it through searching the website in question. But I posted it to let others get the benefit.

I would usually say most are rep reposts. But I didn't get any positive rep from it. But got a lot of thanks. So all good:thumbsup:

seems it is ok to post it, re posted it earlier but went a bit cold so thankfully I found another deal that seems to be getting slightly more heat and both are still there.:)
