You could always delete your comment, correct it, & post the corrected version as another comment.

We'll put in a 30 second period.

................................ <- The last one is the 32nd period

When are e-mail notifications sent to subscribed members to any thread?

Are they sent immediately when somebody replies?

Would a thirty second delay in the "Edit" footnote be applied to the e-mail notifications too? That is, would the notifications be sent with the original text of the comment made, or the text of the comment after the thirty second period (with the "Edit" footnote)?

In the "For Sale / For Trade" threads a prospective buyer could make a financial offer & change their mind to a lower offer within the thirty seconds, but the seller may see the e-mail notification, re-visit the thread & type an acceptance comment without realising the offer had changed.

It has been added to the list of things we are working on. I don't have any specifics in terms of time.

Any chance of making it 90 seconds? For the ITV competitions I have to stop recording the comp segment in media center, open the video file, skip to the right part of the recording, take a screenshot, paste into paint, select the relevent part of the image, copy said selection, open a new blank paint file, paste image, save as jpeg, upload to photobucket, copy the image url & paste into the comment section... 30 seconds is pushing it

Why not undertake the image creation process in advance of writing the comment so you do not need to edit at all?

Because that's how one rolls.

I get the competiiton posted as soon as it appears on TV and reserve the 1st comment box. Usually I post the image in the second comment box & delete the reserved one but sometimes other users are very quick to leave thanks and the image has to be edited into the reserved comment box.

Before the major site changes there were a good few minutes before any info about editing appeared in the comment box so I'd just reserve the 1st comment box and immediately selected edit & pasted the image link in when it was ready.

Are you trying to get your listing created first in case somebody else "gets there first" with a listing for the same competition?

I also create the initial description of "deal" listings & add the first comment immediately for later information if I have not pre-prepared that content.

For example: [ http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/european-playstation-store-mega-update-until-8-june-2011-playstation-network-psn/950155 ]

When the "Reason for Edit" box is prompted, I simply type "Updated information" or something similar.

Is this really a problem or just an observation that the site has changed?

To me, it just looks unappealing to have the edit info in the comment box. There should we a small period of allowance to edit a comment for typos or unprepared pics.

The trouble is, if the duration of time is too long, especially with the "For Sale / Trade" forum, conditions of sale (for example, price) can be changed after a follow-up comment accepting the previous terms.

The "For Sale / Trade" forum could operate differently, granted, but I would imagine it would be easier to implement the same approach across all forums rather than have exceptions.

Site representatives have commented (in earlier threads) on why the "Reason for comment" was necessary, so perhaps a similar (official) clarification could be added here.

There is a time period where after you post a comment, you can go back and edit it without leaving a reason. Or were you bumping it to try and get this time increased? Please clarify, thanks :).

Yes, the time period exists before a reason is required but there is still the text "Edited By: magicbeans on Mmm D, YYYY HH:MM" regardless.

I think magicbeans was asking for that to only be seen after the 30 second period.

That could introduce potential for abuse, but I'll add it the request queue.

Perhaps retain the "Edited" text in the "For Sale / Trade" forum, but allow the 30 seconds of grace in the other forums.

Thanks, in any respect.

My argument would be: 30 seconds is a fairly large chunk of change. Particularly in bigger threads like the HP Touchpad thread (there were many, many posts per minute in the peak of that thread). 30 seconds without any sort of indication that the post has been edited creates an opportunity for abuse. I did add this to the queue, but the reason it has not been actioned is because it's not a cut & dry fantastic idea, although I do agree that the edited by indicator is a little harsh.

Could another idea be to perhaps change the font size of the "Edited by" text, to make it less obtrusive? I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts on this issue. Thanks :).

but that was a one off mad thread..... most threads aren't that bad.... how about a 10second time change and a smaller font.

thanks
