As I said in my only other post about the change: the tail doesn't oft wag the dog and it's seems unlikely the old page will come back, so, if the multi-tab combi navigation is staying for good then please consider the following as constructive feedback:
Please change the name of the "discussed" tab to "recent" and put the words "Sort deals/posts by:" before the big grey tabs. That will help a little bit.
Please make an extra custom tab. That way I can view the site how I used to i.e. deals, vouchers and freebies only, above a certain temperature, in detail mode and sorted by newest posted (that would be my custom tab #1 to represent the old 'main page') then in custom tab #2 I'd personally have: deals and vouchers only in text view, any temperature, sorted by most recent post with expired included. It's not essential but it would be a lot nicer than having to select these settings manually each time.
Or maybe new HUKD could have a simple 'main page' like old HUKD. Then only after you click on 'forums' do you get all the tab combinations, view options, customisations etc. But, crucially, you also get a great big 'sticky' post in mile-high letters (we already have them heh) that says "New users read this first for how to use the tabs in combination..."
It's been said the changes to navigation are with new users in mind but if I was a new user I'd be wondering why I needed an instruction manual to use the site. Without the knowledge that the tabs are used in combination the average web-browsing person will assume each 'link' (and I use the term loosely as the only indication that clicking will do something is the mouse pointer changing shape) is to something unique - that's normally what web-page links do and it's what Mr/Mrs Average Joe is used to having happen when they click on a link.
When posting in misc/feedback I think it would be nice if it was made clear you are "posting a thread" and not "submitting a deal" - the buttons all suggest you are submitting a deal and you even have to pick the deal category (in this case I picked "nonsense") - I don't know if the old site was also like this because I don't think I ever posted in the feedback part of the forum of the old site. Again, I am trying to think more about new users.
Cosmetics: As has already been said by so many, please fix the font sizes and give it all a fresh coat of paint (after doing my extra custom tab of course ahem!) - it doesn't hurt my eyes (and I'm astonished if it actually gives people headaches) but it's really not an improvement visually. The new logo is not even a logo just the word "hotukdeals" with "uk" in bold - the old logo was at least a logo. The slogan sounds silly and er.. why does HUKD need a slogan anyway?
We all (well most of us) appreciate the HUKD team's efforts not just in running the place but in wanting to improve it and give people more powerful forum options but I honestly think most of us just want it to be quick and easy, like a ready meal. I suppose what I'd most like answered is: Why the change? Were there thousands of posts saying the site looked awful or the forums weren't powerful enough? (Note I'm not being sarcy, I'm actually asking seriously.)
