Ok Mods im getting fed up recieving Negative rep for adding a simple comment, this is getting too easy for someone just to click on dissaprove etc.

see here:http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?p=148776#post148776
all i did was add a comment about going down your local high street to see if there was a reputable battery seller for their watch.

I like seeing my rep going up and peope giving it to me but getting a negative rep just for what i did is out of hand :x
Is there anyway that negatives can be given with a suitable reason or sent to the mods first then given to the person ??
I want my rep to go up as does everyone else on here as it makes us feel worthy of helping people and also looks cool to boot :)

I agree with you about the rep, it's open to abuse.

edit,
Did that help ?:)

Did that help ?:)

How do you mean Dino?

I just think neg reps can be givin out so easy yet the commenter is only commenting and trying to help.

i would of given you some rep back for being so helpful on the forums but i haven't given rep to anyone else so i cant give you any at this moment as it wont allow me to. :-(

What do you suggest would help the situation Steve?

Nothing WE can do. Paul could do something, this problem has been mentioned before.
It is disheartening when you get a neg rep. :-(
#6
Sure is, im sure my suggestion of Negatives going through Mods first would be very helpful, i wouldnt imagine it would be hard them doing this as i dont think there is alot of negative rep given daily? (i might be wrong)
#7
I think I agree here, negative shouldn't be removed, but far more earned, say 3 people all vote negative on the same thread someone as posted on, then that someone gets a negative.

ps: wub j00 saxo :P

Hi there schizoboy, i didnt say we should remove them totally, just recieve them when necessary matey.

what does wub j00 mean ? lol

edit: i see now thanks :p

altho i do see more people are agreeing with me on this.

Got to agree saxo that example is uncalled for.

It could make people less inclined to respond to a thread.

Tis true, ive seen a couple of threads been posted twice, and havent wanted to say something incase ive been given a negative rep :O
Bad i know!
Us people who dont post deals very often dont need the negative rep lol, im a lowly 1 blocker as it is!
1 Like #11
Just ignore it like I do, it's pretty pointless anyway. I got negative rep for a post the other day poiting out the item in the offer was rubbish then a few days later the people buying it (and therefore obviously the ones giving the rep) were complaining the item was rubbish after it arrived :)

I also got some for pointing out how much of a con the buy bits of the moon and name a star crap was. It's just some silly coloured boxes, who cares?
2 Likes #12
But coloured boxes are cool ;-) Not that I'd know about that :-(
#13
I'm with you Artemis....members have a right to their opinion on a deal and for someone to give negative rep simply because they disagree that something is a good buy is a nonsense.

If you think something is naff simply ignore or if you feel that strongly then vote cold.
#14
I like helping people tho and getting green wee boxes for doing so, i like everybodys opinions on this tho :)
I see most of us dont like getting neg reps just for nothing tho :-(

We havent had a mod yet add there comments on this thread ???

Well, to be honest Saxo I'm waiting for Paul to comment.

Personally, I don't think any heavy-weight users such as yourself, dino, currychops, or the moderators, really leave negative rep unless it is well deserved. To be honest it shouldn't really be used at all, unless someone is just constantly striking up arguments with people all the time on threads and being generally abusive on threads.

It's like the cold function. That shouldn't really ever be used unless a deal is really bad, and if it is you should comment on why in the thread. Not for reasons such as items being "crap", but suggest an alternative item/cheaper offer to help everyone out.

The reason I say this is that the people who do vote cold, or negative rep, rarely have much rep themselves. They're either new users who don't affect your rep / deal temperature much or just not nice users who'll either not have much rep as it is or get their comeuppance eventually.

Just remember, never retaliate... if you feel you're getting "serial negged" by someone or if a lot of deals are cold voted then let a mod know via PM.

And to all of the negative reppers... what goes around comes around. Think before you click.
#18
Good reply ducky,
I like your point about the heavy users but i just think that as you say the light user people vote negative as there new etc so why cant it be issued through a Mod first?
As some people in this thread have said they sometimes dont want to add comments due to the fact of maybe recieving bad rep and only having one green block themselves like Joshanna
She posts really good stuff yet she only has one green block, that could easily fall down to a red and make her not want to post advice anymore.

As iv said before we like getting out little green blocks as it makes us feel good when we get a positive response to helping people, this is why you have that function on this site, we just think it would help matters even more if negatives were give thru mods first with a suitable reason

 I got a personal mention, i do find a few deals and think WOW! but then i do a search and someones beat me to it :-(
Not just that, but when i do post a deal, people dont seem to bother, dont think any of my deals have got really high up the scale.
None have made the main page.
But yeah, ive not left a negative for anyone, its not kind, and i dont like people who hide behind there computer screen as you cant see whos left it.

good saying ducky, i like it :)

Joshanna,

Don't worry, you are not the only one here whose deals aren't normally rated high :) The deals I post usually don't score well as they are a bit "esotheric" (c) Admin. But even then, so what? That doesn't upset me. And you shouldn't be upset too. Remember, people got different interests. So if I am not interested in, say, toasters, I won't vote on that deal. And if you are not interested in Z-SAN device or VoIP ATA, you won't vote. Which is fair enough.

What I would like to see is mandatory form for those who is voting cold or leaving negative rep. I am OK with "cold" voting but I would like to know "why?". Is there better product around? Is price not good enough? Does voter had bad experience with this product? Or is (s)he simply an anti-Kommunist? :)

:giggle: i still vote on things even if its not something i want as people have took the time and posted it for us all :)
Im grateful to the most regualr posted, as ive made purchases i may NOT have made without finding this site, or like the camera, i was going to buy anyway, but at the higher price so ive saved a few pounds :)
Not just that, but ive been helped with other things too :)
I like this site alot, just dont like the "amminimity" (sp?) of leaving negative rep, i havent recieved any yet that im aware of, but do sometimes feel i have to watch my mouth (fingers actually!)
#23
Joshanna, you can see your last five received reps here:-

Thanks Steve, i did know that, id seen someone post it before, out of my last 5 only 2 have comments, and it doesnt say who they are, but i know who those 2 was.
The other 3, i havent a clue :giggle: as theres no comment either.
#25
Hmmm i dont even know whats going on with my rep now, about 10 mins ago it was 34, now its 148 WTF LOL!
I know steve left me some, but surely he didnt leave over 100 points worth?
All very confusing :giggle:
#26
Steve's rep is quite weighty - he can give quite a bit out in one go :)
#27
i thought u could only leave one?
#28
me too :giggle: sometimes i feel so old and lost in my ways at only 21....
#29
Yes, you can only leave it once, but the weight of the score depends on how much rep you have to start with:

If you have low rep, you give out low rep. E.g. Joshanna, yours might be able to give out about 30-40 points.

Steve has higher rep, and his give out over 100 points in one go I believe. Look at your score at the top right of the user CP.

I have its now gone up again to 155 :giggle:

Emma just about to send you a pm :)

That's how rep system works. The more rep you got the more rep you can give to others. Dino got a lots of rep, so his click is quite heavy.

Can I complain about not getting positive Rep too?
This has all been talked about before and it's either in the works (Paul?) or it's not going to change in the foreseeable future.

You know, once people start complaining about low rep, they are immediately getting some from good souls on this forum. :) And this topic is a good example of it.
#38
OOooh my rep is so low, I got a neg rep for posting a deal about the moon :-( woe is me.... LOL ;-)
#39
I don't think it's fair to complain about the Negative Rep function on it's own, you have to have the same system for both Negative and Positive. I could leave Positive Rep for everyone in this forum for not doing a single thing, does it mean it was deserved? No. The same goes with Negative Rep, if you want it 'screened' I think it's only fair to do the Positive Rep too. Why should you get Positive Rep just because someone 'wants' to. It devalues the system as has been posted already a few times by others.

I agree that the system in place at the moment doesn't work as well as it could and plenty of suggestions have been put in place. We shall just have to wait and see.
