Yeah - the voting weight has been adjusted :)

Thought that was the case Jay, has it not been somewhat over compensated, I'm assuming voting has been cut to a third of its previous value, but the user base seems to have stayed the same with 39,000 online now, and pretty much the same this time yesterday.

The guys applied the right calculations to cover the increase in votes we had which seemed to be down to the competition (despite the info telling the community you won't find a flamedeer by voting!).

I think it actually worked well this year as we put it in the warning text and we noticed members had not read (or ignored) it we were able to get the weight adjusted pretty much right away so that it didn't ruin the deal hunting.

It just seems somewhat broken mate, I mean take the iPad mini deal I posted, 83 hot votes has equated to 85 degrees, I'm not sure if you can determine the number of cold votes a deal had been hit with, but you would normally expect an average of around 3 degrees per vote, which would give that specific deal 249 degrees, surely it hasn't been down voted to a degree to even get it hot?

And just as an addition, I notice my value is two degrees hot/cold voting, has this now been set as a standard across all members regardless of membership period, more specifically new sign ups.

Well members have a vote weight based on their own activity such as deals they've posted etc. So not everyone would have had a top value of around 6 so the 3 degrees isn't necessarily the right figure to use as an example as many of the votes are like 1 or just over.

I've checked your voting log and there are a few cold votes on the higher value so it definitely is right. Its been this way since within 2 hours of the comp going live.

What is the actual higher value Jay? and should I be somewhat insulted that I only have 2 degrees? :(

But on a serious note, Obviously you can't say if the balance of voting was determined against new sign up votes, but would it have not been (could it have been) logical to use the same system that is in place after a members suspension, Leaving certain members (within a membership timeframe) voting weight as it always has been, and then limiting the weight of new sign ups and/or inactive members?

Just as an extra, your vote is just under 3 so its around the top voting value you can get.

This change wasn't to stop/limit any new sign ups voting, it was because the votes across the site by all members were increased.

Leaving the "established members" vote at its maximum would defeat the object because it wasn't just new sign ups voting.

I don't have the specifics for the new voting weight but it is something which is being monitored and right now it is working as we planned.

didn't realsie top vote was 6, was 4.5 fairly recently i think

as for you having less than max voting power i feel thats correct, i mean you have only posted 1000 deals in 3 years
i saw one at -3 and one at -7 in the most recent 10 pages of deals...those are a giant black mark against your name
try hard to improve and one day you will get there though :{

Have to agree, it does seem better this year. Not as many posts blazing with heat just because its related to christmas animals, santa or any slight anagram of the word deer.

Needs adjustment - over the last couple of days the number of deals making the hot page is relatively low. Over the last 12 hours only 24 deals have made it to the hot page - much lower than usual and is too low....

its impressive when you see the product of some deep and intelligent thinking in action

not so much when its ERM DIVIDE BY 5! or something as a solution

MJ or anyone else around - Any update on what the plans are around the voting system (ref comment 18)?

Some decent deals are being lost at the moment as its taking too many votes to get hot. I can see how it can put off the regular posters of deals.

Noticed that a top 10 deal on Sunday was the dizzy heights of 98 degrees ...

Thanks in advance
