Some of you have been around for long enough to remember Fo.lk, a classifieds directory trial which synchronised listings with HotUKDeals and vice versa.
The plan was to give FS/T users a dedicated platform and response team
, making the FS experience easier for private sellers and ensuring HotUKDeals could focus as a deals platform.
You'll also remember how confusing it became, with live versions of the same content or same user showing variations, depending which platform you were using at the time.
Following on from our ridiculously steep Fo.lk learning curve, MyDealz launched de.lokal.com
in late 2015, a standalone classifieds section. Although some* core FS users were angry at this change, Lokal has so far proved to be just as successful for sellers.Later this month, we'll be starting our own FS Forum / Lokal UK
switchover. HotUKDeals FS forum will be hosted by and entirely managed by the Lokal team, including all user queries, disputes, thread management and escalations. This will ensure a streamlined experience for FS/T users and give you a platform which will shift and evolve over time to suit your needs.Active users of the FS forum will receive a PM and email in the next day or so, explaining the change and offering them the chance to transfer their threads and feedback to Lokal. You'll have until 23:59 March 8th to opt-in.We will include a link to Lokal in our nav menu, much the same as MyDealz.
I've drafted a timeline, this is pretty loose at the moment and subject to change but I hope it gives you an idea of what's what.Feb 22 - Sitewide notification and feedback thread published
Mar 8 - Submit to FS/T forum closed. Banner added to section requesting Lokal migration.
Now-March 16 - FS/T team will actively need to monitor open threads and encourage resolution before month end. Anything left open by month end can be locked and user can be redirected to Lokal
March 08 - Opt in closes
March 09 - All opt-ins are imported to Lokal, full handover to Lokal team on any outstanding issues.
March 16 - Comments closed (all issues should be resolved before this)
March 20 - FS/T section is removed from HotUKDeals. Navigation to Lokal is added and handovers are completed.
FAQ:Where do I opt in?
You'll receive a PM shortly, however you can opt in prior to this here https://www.hotukdeals.com/lokal-optinNOTE Clicking this link will opt you in if you are logged in. If you do not wish to opt in, do not click the link!!
This link may only work for logged in users. Why do you need to change something which isn't broken?
We don't need to, we want to. FS/T is a huge drain on our site and we aren't able to provide the support it deserves. Lokal will remedy this. What will happen to my data?
Lokal will not be importing anything other than your username, reg'd email address and feedback (trading history). You'll be able to login with your hotukdeals password though Lokal will not be importing it in plain text of course. What if I don't opt in in-time?
Migration will be completed on March 8, please ensure you’ve opted in by then. You'll still be able to join Lokal after this point, but your Hotukdeals feedback won't be imported. What if I have a dispute when things switch to Lokal?
Our FS team will be working to tie up any loose ends over the next week or so, and the Lokal team will be looped in on any problems. What happens if I have a dispute after migration?
Whilst Lokal still encourage users to trade safely, and make adequate checks before entering into any transactions, the dedicated team at Lokal will be on hand to guide you through any choppy waters.
