When posting in a FS/FT thread, rule 14 should always be considered. Whilst an OP may not be able to control who posts in the thread, they can avoid bumping by proxy if they use the mecahnism available for reporting posts which come under the 'thread' spoiling category.

Engaging in conversation on a thread is not permitted. All posts should have a material impact on the thread e.g. an offer or perhaps a link to the item at a lower price elsewhere. Posts of the nature "Good price", "If only I had the cash", etc whilst supportive will be considered thread spoiling and causing unfair promotion of the thread above others.

With specific regards to the above quoted post, there can be many messages deleted and only viewable by the hukd team. In this instance we're talking in the high 20's. A warning shot had already been posted in the thread, yet the small talk continued.

I hope this makes it a little clearer. If not, I'm sure you'll let us know.

Thanks.

(14) Please ONLY post in a thread if you are interested in engaging in the sale/trade listed. Anything else will be considered thread spoiling and will be deleted

Thanks aScottishbloke. So basically if the post has no value a reply would be considered a bumpy, however haggling, asking for details etc. which have value in the thread do not count?
banned#4
Scenario1: OP lists item for sale at £40

Post #1:
Member 1: "Nice Price"

Post #2:
OP: "Thanks"

Using the above, member 1 is thread spoiling, whilst the OP engages in a post of no value to the thread so would count as 1 bump.

Asking for further details on an item/submitting offers is all part of the trading process and would not count towards the bumping/thread spoiling process.

Hope this helps.
#5
Engaging in discussion with a prospective purchaser about the item shouldn't be considered spoiling. Nor should asking for details etc.
I've never really understood these rules. It seems like you are only allowed to say " yes, I'll have it at price stated" as you might in a shop, not in a market stall type way.
#6
Would that be why i had email notification that a user had posted in my thread http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/380182/fs-samsung-e900-mobile-phone-severa

but now it isn't there ???

The comment according to the email was 'nice phone, just bought one, this is better, better price too'

Members can still delete their own messages, however they are viewable by HUKD, such as the case above.

Wonkey,

I won't go into specific cases, however an OP reporting thread spoiling via the correct channels is welcomed. Responding to the spoiler still counts as a thread bump, even after an OP has reported it.

so your advice is to ignore it then?

I'm also confused by the bumping by proxy thing, just had a quick looksie to see how the pros manage to keep a for sale thread above board and legal, and found this from ASB:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=206031&page=2

A bit of OTT bumping in that surely..........

Not causing trouble ASB, just showing that even the modgods get it wrong sometimes lol!

No, report it. Most members do. Just don't report then engage in a conversation which has the effect of multiple bumps.

However I know OP's wont report positive messages of support as most will happily accept the free bump.

As long as we don't reply can we take it as a free bump?

Technically, yes - however infractions will be issued as per rule 14 to members posting without participating in the sale.

In most cases, however there are a few people who consistently post on the FS/FT board who seem to have no intention of buying and just threadspoiling... I guess they ruin it for us all :x

The one and only infraction i've ever received was for posting a single comment on a FS thread,i didn't have a clue i'd done anything wrong so i was mightily miffed about the infraction.
#23
i got an infraction for this i didn't even know i did it and the information i got told im only allowed 2 bumps not 3!

but to be honest a message to say oi you do you realize you can't do that then thats enough for me anyway a bit to strong action really i mean this isn't my job being on here so im not gonna remember every rule in the book so i slight nudge in the right direction is enough!

If you look at my posts your see i try to be fair, i give heat & rep when its due hell i even sorted through a massive list of blu-rays for a thread in the deal section. Cold votes i give a reason for & i have over 1000 posts so its not like im trying to offend anyone!

its almost like what the police tend to do they give to harsh penalties to the more respectful public rather making the effort with the real offenders!

Nothing specified here No finger pointed i will get on and go along but this isn't a prison this isn't a cell there isn't a law breaking, so how about a few messages before an infraction given.....especially if your allowing all ages to access the site.

Good day/evening everyone!

To be honest I quite like the zero tolerance on here, at least you know where you are, there aren't many rules on here so not that difficult to follow. I've been pulled up a couple of times, both for excessive bumping which I was banged to rights for so now am very careful with bumping and hence asking the question on here.

At the end of the day the forum is provided for free, if you want more freedom then there is ebay...

The bumping rule was brought in at the request of lots of members just as the FS/FT section was starting to pick up the pace. It's REALLY needed to try and keep things fair.

Ultimately, all of the rules have one or more of the following three purposes: 1) to reduce the number of scammers, 2) to make the section a fair playing field for all sellers and 3) to ensure that sales/trades can take place as quickly and smoothly as possible.

so, for example, this post has had 8 'free' bups and 1 'offical' bump (the seller responding. Would all these people receive warnings/infractions?

I'm not I'm just saying you don't have to trade here, there are other choices.

ebay can be a lot harsher sometimes I've had threads removed for no reasons at all, try and get an explanation - fat chance!

They certainly should and would have been nipped in the bud had the team at HUKD been aware. Warnings/Infraction penalty guidelines published in FS/FT rules thread. Previous conduct taken into account.

Will sort it now, thanks.

I don't think FS/FT is harsh at all. The rules are there to be read and is people's responsabillity to do so. Have a read up and it's easy to stay within them........i've always managed to with no bother. Never received a infraction etc due to the fact that it's doing me a favour so in return it's only fair not to abuse it.

If people are finding themselves getting into bother then they can't blame the team........only themselves.

Totally agree Sy, i've only had one infraction, and that was right at the beginning when i didn't realise you needed to "expire" a thread, i thought you could just wait 7 days after the last post.

I grassed myself up for that as well lol!

Should someone report the thread, or each of the individual posts?

If only 1 or 2 posts within a large thread then i'd report a post. If widespread throughout then report the thread and the team will review.

agreed. It's quite simple rules really. I think the majority would like:

1) 2 Threads Maximum per person
2) 3 Bumps Maximum per thread
3) Discussion only related to price or condition of item(s) in question

This means your thread stays longer on the first page, people aren't getting 'free bumps' and everyone has a fair chance of selling.

Unfortunately for the Mods/Helpers, this would take a while to enforce. Would be worth it though

1 is a good point, if people were limited to 2 threads at a time, then we could get some of the old threads locked which invariably get bumped because somebody hasn't realised how old they were.

Would it be possible to automatically expire a thread after a certain period of inactivity to prevent old threads being bumped?

I don't see why.......i replied to you at the same time someone made an offer. You deleted your message then straight away so i did as it then looked as if i was talking to myself. Even with that i haven't overbumped the thread.

My record speaks for itself. Please report the thread so the team can examine it as i'm happy to take any punishment due. :)
