Really weird that Starlet because I am doing exactly the same and was going to bring it up ! Spooky :w00t:
I reckon it's just a personal choice thing really but I must admit I am finding it hard to work out why there is a need for the "Full Details" bit.
To me it's miles easier to use text only, but then that's just me ?

Regards :santa:

I also think it is personal choice.

For example, on my custom tab, I view everything in "full" view - I have it set up to only view "deals, "vouchers" and "freebies". I find this is handy, as I see a brief synopsis of all in reverse chronological order. Hoever for all the other regular forums, I just view in text only :)

So Emma would you use "full view" at all if there were a facility to get the brief synopsis by hovering over the "text only" because that really is the only disadvantage I can see of "text view".

We had that facility before didn't we or am i getting confused ?

I would like the hover facility back, but I guess that is up to admin :) I know it has been mentioned on numerous threads. I can see the point that it is not really necessary when you can just switch to full view, but starlet makes some good points in the OP.

It just seems like...text only view has been 'beefed up' and is getting all the features and updates, while full view is being left behind and made completely redundant ...I feel like either both should be getting equal treatment, or text only view should be made the default

I think you're right Starlet and I was thinking the same yesterday. I kind of feel that we've been adding all the stuff to text only b/c they are forum type features and we're thinking oh only forum people will want them. Really though they should all be in detailed view too as you say.

I think the advantage of full details is that you can vote also as well as read the post quickly as compared to text only.

I like text only view, but it would be a million times more useful if the price was shown!

We do encourage people to write the price in the thread title. In fact, i spend time going through posts and adding it in. If you happen to be in a thread where you feel that someone could have added that in and it has not yet been done, a quick word to help them out would not go astray :)

IMO, the text only view is best and i think if that was set as the default, people who complained would calm down and find it easier to use and then if they wish, they could set it to full view. The full view is too much for my liking, i like simple text that doesn't take too much space, no doubt some people prefer the full view. I think a poll should be done on which view people like more and make that the default. When i first saw the "full view" it shocked the heck out of my, looked so confusing and cluttered. When i calmed down and started breathing again i noticed the little link on the right that let me change the view to "text view" which i think looks SOOOOO much better. It will help new users as it's easier to understand, when they get acquainted with the site, they can change the view to the "full view". I think that way it would be better.

Also, i think adding a little bit of instructions on the submit page would help for those who leave some info out for example the like the price. Like it could say, "please include price in the title" or something like that. Wouldn't take too much space up.

Or, i noticed that you enter the price in the submission page, maybe the script could be configured a little so that it takes the info from the price field and adds it to the title? But then i guess that could cause problems if users already enter the price manually in the title as then the price would show up in the title twice.

Was this new forum design scripted/coded by the owners of this site or was it installed from an already available script? Looks pretty impressive, very clean and tidy (the text view that is, my fave).
