serious business!

is this a posher version of kemos thread?
#2
Well said (I think :?)

I do like to try and find the info and deals that people want but don't post deals myself (sorry)
#3
so HUKD actually means somethings to you guys

oh right........
#4
You're correct. If you wanna gain rep you have to constantly spam on the Misc thread.
#5
Whats your point? If it is that post-count and reputation are meaningless, of course its true, its been said many times before! Its not really a 'fundamental flaw' as it doesn't affect the quality (or otherwise) of the deals posted and comments given... :)

If you are submitting deals, advice, deal-requests etc then you are contributing to what 'we' are trying to do (and it should give you a warm fuzzy glow inside when you whip out the credit card when a bargain is posted :giggle:). Rep is just 'a bit of fun' and post-count just emphasizes how sad some of us really are!

It does matter if you value getting rep for finding good deals.
#7
haha OP has a point.... put it into feedback......
#8
Can see the value in your point, though I always evaluate the retailer / 'bargain' on its own merits, as a fairly recent newbie.
#9
No I dont think rep and post-count are meaningless; I think when used correctly they can be a valuable indicator of a persons contribution to the objectives of the site. I just think that the Misc section should be a fun area but not be a place where people can meaninglessly up their position.

Thats the point - its really nice and rewarding when you post a good deal (or find someone a bargain, or offer useful advice) and they say thanks in the form of rep - but its not the end of the world when they don't rep (or you get rep for a pointless post in misc). The idea of splitting misc into two forums - one for serious help/advice and one for nonsense has been put forward several times (I think it would be a shame if rep wasn't allowed when someone gives a genuinely useful response to a request for help in misc...)
#11
lol way too serious on here innit, i goto the deals section, look at deals...if i like the price of something I BUY IT, i dont even look at how hot or cold it is and certainly dont read peoples comments saying how rubbish a deal is , if your that easily influenced in your purchases (using you hard earned cash).. by anonymous posters/trolls on a forum then its time for you to leave :p
#12
Two of the Top 20 repped members here post deals regularly. Not a problem but a point. ;-)

Probably could be extended to say 5 of 20 posted more than 5 deals ever.
#13
Post count should not reflect whether you can trust someone on HUKD, however I do agree that repping in the MISC section should be removed.

A persons rep should entirely be based the deals they have posted and the trades they have done in the buying/selling section of the site.

Handing out REP in the MISC section, makes it a pointless part of the website in my opinion

Its absolute nonsense though. 8 of the top 10 repped members have posted over 5 hot deals in the last 3 months, some many more... Considering one of the others has hardly posted at all in that time, I think your point is pretty unfair on those members!

Feedback is for the buying/selling section - rep shouldn't be considered there at all!

Absolute rubbish = Fact.
#18
I've received rep from the misc section for helping people with nerdy tech questions and advice on a range of subjects.

I agree that if people are just throwing round rep for someone being funny then it is a little pointless but if I have legitimately helped someone then I feel I've earned that rep.
#19
too many hold so much in regard to HUKD, sorry but its very funny, HUKD merely facilitate information and then viewers have the FREE WILL to choose what to do with that information based on its merits and the viewers common sense

rep or no rep its still meaningless

No, a fact is something that is true. What you are saying is a lie. In the few months, Syzable has posted 11 deals, ODB has posted 35, emasu has posted 12, suze has posted 8, hottoshop has posted 7 and kippy has posted 17. That is fact.

The advantage of putting rep in the profile is that it's meaningless... so people who get wound up and try to game it aren't actually gaming anything I'd love to put something related to hot deals in that space but I know it's only going to encourage cliques to try and game the temp which is so important to the site.

We did put "View FS/FT Feedback" link in there. We will get it updated to the proper feedback numbers at some point.

i agree.. rep in ANY form is absolutely useless imo, surely you can decide yourself if something is worth a price or not? the internet is turning everyone into mindless zombies lol

My comment as quoted was also in reference to the Top 20  Certainly a handful of which have never posted over 5 deals ever and some none. Is this cos they are helpful? Maybe

I think 2 members of the Top 10 could be said to post deals regularly and up to 5 post some Hot deals- you think 8 and quote 6. Anyway I don't care enough to labour on it as not that important on the scale of things

I 'think 8' and 'quote 6' as of course many of the top-repped members are moderators, who I didn't think it would really be relevant to include in the above. I think its fairly obvious your point was very inaccurate, and like I said pretty unfair on those members who do take the time to post deals... You also said '5 of the 20 have posted 5 deals' - I'd be surprised if any have posted less than 5 deals in their time here (and certainly most have posted well over that..)

you know...the OP has only posted 7 deals as far as I can see...ok some good ones (like the Wetherspoons one) but with only 7 deals how much rep does he/she expect?

I posted more than that in my first month

You have completely missed the point of what I was trying to say, not surprisingly. Rep and feedback could be useful tools if worked correctly. The Misc section prevents that from happening. Whatever difference my posting history has to the validity of my argument, only you seem to know.

I just think its weird to moan about it when your doing it yourself. You have posted a couple of deals but I'd bet good money that the most/highest rep you have got is from the Misc section. if it TRULY bothers you then dont post in Misc

It means diddley squat anyway so I dont see why you want it so much

Actually, you're wrong. Very little rep has come from the Misc section. I just feel the Deals are such a terrific tool for everybody that uses the site, we should do whatever we can to preserve the integrity of the posters that supply them. Rep and postcount could be better used to do that.

I completely disagree

you post them for the satisfaction of helping, not to receive rep, to make it completely that way would be wrong. What about when people help out for a specific problem? Deal requests? Advice?

but I tell you this...all your 'high scoring' rep will be from Misc regulars...guaranteed!

this question has been answsered many times hence the Admin statement refering to rep and post count being meaningless, end of, soooo eeerrrrrr the Feedback has been done.
#39
TBH I try and post wherever I can original deals that I personally have found.

If I wanted to up my deal count I could spend all day posting deals from retailer newsletters and places like "Offer of the Day"

I don't bother because I know someone else is going to do that. It's quite funny sometimes to see who has managed to post first when a retailer email has been sent out.

As has already been stated rep means nothing and never will do all the time the present system remains, right or wrong.

Enjoy the site, post deals when you can and have respect for others, that should be enough really shouldn't it ??
