Genuine question... Isn't there a rule about making Ebay deals and no sole trader deals?? - HotUKDeals

Many moons ago I remember reading something, somewhere, saying only deals from ltd/plc companies are allowed, and only eBay's deal of the day (if I remember correctly). But I'm probably wrong.

Yeah, I think that's what I read too. Can anybody clarify?

Well a mod was posting a deal for a sole trader with no contact details at all a month or so ago, I asked ASB if they were allowed now but he never came back to me and the deal remained so obviously they are ok to post now.

Oh I see. So in that case aren't deals open to manipulation now?

OP - I think its probably this deal that you're referring to

I'll move this thread to feedback as its more appropriate to that forum.

Good point, you were referring to the Ironing Service c/o myCityDeals (or similar Groupon like service). Please accept my apologies for not getting back to you. It was discussed within the team and I overlooked the fact that you initially raised the issue.

These type of deals should still be subject to the same tests as any other merchant. In many cases the contract is directly with the merchant and not the daily deals company. The odd one or two may have slipped through. Members are still encouraged to report threads for which they have concerns.

As for the blu ray thread, we'll review. Any items contained within that thread should only be from merchants who fit the standard criteria for listing.

So they aren't allowed, yet the same mod posted this one recently

I just want to weigh in here, the Groupon / Groupola offers are all subject to review following a discussion between the moderation team a couple of weeks ago. The concern was that although Groupon / Groupola etc are approved merchants, the merchants offering the deals through them often aren't. The one you've mentioned there and previously were part of that discussion, and as the ironing thread had already been live for a week and had expired we left it on site for continued discussion amongst members.

We do advise members that we don't normally allow sole-traders, and we'll be continuing with that general rule to include Groupon / Groupola merchants now. However if we feel a merchant has a strong customer base and good reviews, we may allow them on site in any case.

Regarding the Ebay thread, Dangergod highlighted item numbers for a massive range of items from various Ebay store fronts. We do allow Ebay stores, again if their feedback is strong and the company itself checks out. We follow several different ways of checking out merchants, and we always advise members to do the same before making a purchase.

I don't see the problem with groupon deals. Genuine discount at a genuine uk establishment. OK some may not be approved by HUKD - but surely they enter a contract with groupon to fufil the asking price. Have there been some problems with vouchers not being honoured??
