Please look here for an example.
Thanks.

Wasn't the fault of WonderWoman that the email she was sent by NOTW wasn't correct...

IMHO these are OK and give advance notice of a benefit that some people might be interested in. I don't see any harm being done. Compared to some forums this one is relatively free of flaming which makes a nice change.

But its like saying.... "I know somone who works for Harrods and they tell me there will be a sale on at Christmas!" all these posts are pointing to something that will eventually happen

I don't believe that the WonderWoman NOTW/Tesco thread can be compared to that at all.

Dont get me wrong.... its not a personal attack on anyone, I just think that until these things are confirmed by someone who has actually reaped the benifit of the deal they shouldnt really be posted.

I'm just using the NOTW thread as an example.

If we carry on with the example of the NOTW thread (because I think it's a good place to start), we wouldn't have heard about it until someone had been out and bought the paper. If the warning hadn't been posted on here then they might not have known to look out for it. In the meantime, people have bought other papers which don't have this offer and could have missed the genuine NOTW voucher (had it appeared).

I think it's better to have the pointers there. If you don't want to act on them until they're confirmed (I know I don't normally) then you don't have to but the advance pointers mean that they can be confirmed as true or untrue much more quickly when the deal is supposed to be live. :)

So you'd think it was alright if I went and posted......

Heads up.... Harrods sale this Christmas
Heads up.....Next sale this boxing day
Heads up MFI sale next Easter etc..........

These deals usually have specific dates attatched, no?

Hi,

can I just say that I am not against these types of notices. I would just like them to be substantiated in some way.

there seem to be far too many of the I spoke to a guy who works in.........

If you are the one who works in EG. Tesco and you know something because you manager said so and you have seem promotional material prepared in the back, that is fantastic.

similarly the 'M&S sale starts this thursday' is also a useful reminder as it is close enough to look out for.

But I have seen many of the 'spoke to a guy in asda who said all TV's are going to be 50% off in July' that are weeks in the future, generally sound too good to be true and turn out to be just that.

I know it is shades of grey and I offer no solutions other that people should not post something unless they know (rather than hope) it is true.

Seems to me that these heads up are obviously coming, as they do every year, whereas most would know nothing about the M&S thing coming up.
It's not really comparing like with like.
A heads up on something unusual coming up is a good thing. I can look out for it and prepare to get there in time for it

I think they're very good

Someone gave details of the £5 Asda mobiles in advance meaning HUKD'ers could all get their cheap mobiles

If I didn't see the thread I wouldn't have known

I personally appreciate the heads up posts.

I myself have posted them in the past for Thorntons (have one currently) as I get advance notice of particular products which are going to be reduced soon.

Surely it is better to forewarn someone who may possibly beplanning to purchase the products to hold fire as it where for a number of days?
