I agree that there are a lot of people who seem to vote cold, just 'cos they can. Someone once suggested to me that "Rep" should be replace with "Thankyou". I think that would work.

Couldnt agree more. I help a lot of people on the forum and around 25% say thanks, fewer give any rep.

I dont mind helping folks out where I can as its always a goodwill gesture, but you're right, its common courtesy to say thank you, even if someone tried to help.

As for the voting, I'll say nothing on that other than I now see it only as a bit of fun. Nothing more, nothing less. :)

Both repped for taking the time to acknowledge these topics. :)

hmmm i usualy say thank you where i feel its needed....rep can only be given 10times in any 24hrs...perhaps some people have a problem there. I find its the less active members who are the rudest.

To me rep on this site is worthless as the system is massively abused, if I've helped someone then I appreciate it if they take the time to thank me in the thread. I do agree though it's irritating when people don't bother thanking someone who has assisted them.

I haven't noticed any difference in people adding heat, any deals which have been hot seem to have been voted hot.

I recently posted a deal and have received 3 blue squares. I assume that is negative rep?
Only one left a comment, which was "I was going to post this, but you beat me to it".
The deal is currently hot at 184degrees but is obviously not to some people's taste. there have been a few political comments.
Although it's not the end of the world, it does get to me that these people do not even have the decency to give a valid reason why they are giving me a negative reputation, and also they are not leaving their name. GRRR!!!

I don't believe you can give negative rep any more, I thought the loophole that allowed it still to be given had been fixed.

They are not negative rep.

The blue squares are rep from people who have not yet got any rep themselves, so they cannot give any actual orange rep, with points. They are just repping you in a good way and probably don't even know that it's not got any value. They also probably think that their user name is automatically added when they give their rep, so haven't said who they are.

Don't be cross; they're actually taking the time to thank you!!
