its a great idea 3rd ed

It would lead to lots of false offers that are non existent.

Posting for rewards is exactly what Admin does not want.
The site would be distracted by members posting tosh. Less is more.

In short...Bad idea acecather3

isn't this just asking for the site being bombarded with supermarket offers seeing as they generally get the highest temp (e.g 8p baked beans at asda etc)?
[mod]#8
It would clog the site up with a load of rubbish and lies plus it would probably be won by those who regularly move in the Misc circles by getting mates to vote.
#9
Surely the Hot/Cold voting would sort the wheat from the chaff?
#10
Most of the 'hot' deals don't even exist ...
People vote hot if someone posts there will be a sale tomorrow.. and they have no idea of prices or stock availability but the heat gets turned on regardless.

bumped after 7 months with 0 replies, I think there was a reason for that. :)

If only it worked that way. Sadly, it doesn't come close.
#14
It does work though...there are plenty of **** that people pounce on and vote cold...as with double posts...no-ones gonna win a prize for that are they...

wtf u on bout?? lol

Rubbish idea, just because of who the OP is :)

i dont think the same ppl in rep circles would be able to influence the voting of deals and no i dont think it wud b clogged up with supermarket deals, they arent the hottest items this month, i dont really see the fake deals as a problem, a deal which doesnt exist will never make it to top monthly deal, misprice deals also arent a problem, they last for 1 week max and then ppl post emails theyve recieved from the companies saying its been cancelled.

Are you sure? I have seen deals that no one has received reach 1000 degrees.
Would the poster of this deal deserve Amazon vouchers if it were to be he hottest of the month?

Would this lead others to post even more "rumour" deals etc in the hope of being rewarded?

By which time it's too late because HUKD'ers have voted it red hot.

There is currently a thread for a PSP doing the rounds. Last time I looked, it was at 900 degrees, despite being very dodgy, and no one has confirmation as to what is (If anything) being sold.

It's a brave man that admits their idea sucks a fat one. Be brave. :)

then theres no reason why the awards couldnt be put back a month so for example the hottest deal of january could be awarded end of february, that would give more than enough time to make sure that the hottest deal that month was in fact legit....i dont think my idea "sucks a fat one" therefore i wont "be brave"...i think it could work and i think the problems which urself and a couple of others have brought up could be easily solved.

It doesn't matter how far it is put back,
Whether it is voted on in Feb. Mar or Apr won't matter, it's still the hottest deal in Jan.

Let's say the hottest deal in January is a Xbox 360 from Tesco direct at £50, and it reaches 3000 degrees in 3 days. 2 days after this, it transpires that only 1 HUKD'er gets one,. They give £5 vouchers to everyone else that ordered.

Is this legit? They did sell it for that price. Imagine the kerfuffle when someone who posted a "proper" deal that month that many benefitted from starts a thread in "Feedback" titled "where's my vouchers?".

You then get all the I'm leaving, Admin's biased etc etc.

looooool u do make me laugh, i know what u mean but then ull get that anyway, just like the christmas card comp, ppl did exactly the same "admins biased i shudhave got a £2.50 voucher" etc, but things like that wont happen alot on here, in order to get to number 1 on "monthly" hot deals ur deal HAS to be available to more than 1 person, the problem uve outline is much more to do with "todays" "3days" "one week" hot deals etc, thats where ull get the ones which have been voted up to 1000degrees as u say and its not really a great deal. The monthly hot deals are definately much more reliable and at the end of the day, even if a deal like the one uve made an example of does come to light, with all decisions on this site, its up to admin who he thinks deserves the vouchers

So, to illustrate a possible outcome of this idea:
I'm not knocking this post nor the person who posted it, but the present hottest deal of the month is the Wetherspoons information about cutting prices in the New Year. The link is to the MSN news from whence it has been pasted. There isn't an actual deal. It's a news item. Now it's easy to argue - well so what that it's not actually arguably a deal? Clearly people have appreciated this news and have voted hot hot hot. If this particular hottest deal got the monthly prize where do we draw the line as literally even more hundreds of news items are posted, in the hope of getting the vouchers or whatever. Clogging up the deals even more, with the twenty separate individual items in a sale at M&S etc etc.

Just some thoughts.
#24
well the mods have already said that even if a deal has been posted about a general discount, its still ok for ppl to post individual deals, so this new incentive wouldnt change what already goes on here at hukd.

for example play have a 50% off sale....thats gets put into a deal

then theres probably 50 other deals after that highlight individual items ie "this dvd £3 at play.com....mods have said this is fine

in terms of ur weatherspoons comment, yes i think this would count as a deal as ppl will see it and go in there for a meal or a few drinks to save money, so for example if admin did implement this idea and at the end of the month this deal was the hottest, the op would recieve the £20 prize or whatever the prize may be.
suspended#26
its a good idea luke but i find there are some people who are ALWAYS fastest off the mark on deals
and always seem to find hot deals which dont give us rubbish deal posters a look in lol

i posted a thread the other day asking why we cant get some kind of points system going

and get cash back at the end of the year for our over all deals ?
#27
My reply wasn't about whether it was a deal or not; I thought I had covered that. It was about the effect of a monthly prize on the frequency of posting of these news items - and yes, there is a really hot one for Asda as well.
My point, which clearly I failed to make apparent, was that giving a prize to these very hot items will probably lead to a substantial increase in that type of thing. Pub chain will be reducing the price of crisps, supermarket intends to lower prices and bus company says it will be upgrading seats - just news items.
They actually link to the news item or the supermarket general site, not to anything specific. You click onto nothing useful.
So, to say again I am not debating whether they are deals, I am not knocking this type of post because people clearly find them useful and vote them very hot. I am saying that a prize will probably result in a proliferation of these posts and they won't be anything like as 'useful' as the present very hot examples. Clogging up the deals section, which I personally think has become a morass.

I tend to agree with the idea that a prize would encourage posting loads of stuff in the hope it sticks and gaming of the vote system.

Right now the vote is the most important interaction but we do not incentivise it in any way which attempts to keep it more neutral.

fair enuf admin, at least u replied!

cheers

I imagine it would generate more cold votes to "beat down" the competition, which would then lead to more "why wont people leave a reason when voting cold" threads, which would lead to me posting "what a great idea, I'm so glad someone finally brought up this issue"

On another note though... none of the above really matters.
