I have to say that i'm fairly new to the site and from what i've seen so far people post some great deals. True some people seem to vote cold just because it's not their kind of thing....but the post is still there to see for those that think it's a good deal.
#4
There is that aspect of it however because of the way I see how so many are treated on here when a deal is posted I am very reluctant to post any myself, and surely thats not what the community is about.
#5
No, your right negativity will put people off. It would be helpful if people explained their reasons for voting cold...a prompt perhaps like the one you get when you leave rep that could be filled in or left blank. I've yet to find a deal to post on here. I just scrounge off others finds:oops:
would also help if they were polite...most people seem to be.
#6
To be fair... how can u tell it has gone down hill so much. You have made a contribution of 31 posts since August. Maybe if u post a bit more, we can have a laugh etc. then HUKD would be a better place.

I dont need to post to see what goes on here pretty much every day. That's a daft way of thinking.

Bless you for censoring a word that HUKD does not seek fit to censor.

lol I try my best

If you dont start controling your language your gonna be in BIG trouble...:whistling: ( not off me..a mod)

I'm done I was just proving a point about swear filters being totally useless if you are aware of how they work.

Hardly... if u were to post something interesting once in a while then other like minded people will hopefully respond and start a discussion of sort... making it a bit more lively and interesting compared to the normal posts on here. A daft way of thinking is surely making no impact on the site through posts and then complaining, alie?
#12
Removed off topic posts. Those avoiding the swear filter may face a ban.

@ Nailz - if you see any trolling or insulting members, please report them using the report button to the left of each post... and a mod will take action on it.

To my mind, there's only one way the things you are complaining about will change, and that's if more people post possitive comments and/or post good deals. By not posting, whilst you are not contributing to the problem, you're not solving it either. That's not meant as a dig, as you are perfectly entitiled not to post. :) Just saying that if you do want things to change, there are ways to help. (In other words, what don said  )

Yes, people should vote hot when deal is a bargain or excellent value irrespective of :-

1) a similar deal was published earlier does not make the current deal cold as there will be people who may have missed out the first time
2) whether the products are at "war" with each other : e,g, blue ray versus HD-DVD, betamax vs. VHS, car versus bicycle,... they are alternatives and can still be a good deal even if a fraction of the buyers will never buy
3) Unfair comparisons between an expensive item that is miniaturized and a cheap item that is big and heavy e.g. flash stick with a big hard disk

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.[2]

[ASIDE: Just curious, but how did you cut and paste with all the URLs still embedded like that Emma?]

thanks emma - well i love hduk and apart from giving my opinion on certain subjects on bbc site this is the only one that i interact with - i tell my friends and colleagues about hduk - it is getting bigger ad more people are replying / giving their opinion - i think also there are different types of people contributing - not just computer experts and gamers - maybe nailz hasnt seen that shift - apologies if i have gone on a bit

It just happens when I normally cut and paste. Maybe it's a mod thing on the forums though.

yep, it's like all the people who complain about TV being 'rubbish', and the license fee being a waste of money- but would never think of writing to the BBC to make suggestions, and actually watch a clear four hours of telly every night. The beeb's charter says that they have to listen to and act on public input you know! Going OT here but i'd be happy to pay a fiver a week for- The Apprentice, Dragon's Den, Waterloo Road, Gavin and Stacey, Hotel Babylon, Extras etc

Anyway, OP think of HUKD like a magazine you read but don't contribute to- if your regular mag got a bit boring, you'd presevere for a bit then give up and choose another, wouldn't you?

Ah, you see I have a big problem with duplicate deals - it's up to users to browse the forums often to see what's been going on. People know how fast this place can move, so you've got to be quick. Snooze/lose situation. Repeating existing deals only serves to clutter the forum with the same threads (how many times have we had the Tesco 1p energy saving lightbulbs posted now? Ten times or more?) It's not the site's responsbility to make people aware of good deals by repeating them, it's up to the user to spot them in the first place. I M O. :)

Ok as everyone can see I am new to HDUK but to the poster of this thread why even come onto the site if you are not happy with it? No point moaning, just dont use the site and let us people who are happy with it get on with browsing peacefully.

Not been here long, but if you can ignore/see past the jobsworths this is an excellent site which has saved me a lot of money.

There are a lot of wannabee moderators/suck ups unfortunatley but on the flipside there is an ignore function which can transform your experience with a few carefully selected additions to your ignore list.

Whilst I don't agree with all the OP has said, I do feel the site has deteriorated in one respect, namely: We now have far too many new threads being started, not just, as someone already pointed out, many people posting the same deal (ie the Tesco 1p bulbs) but also things like 'Play 80% off Sale' in the past would include some of the bargains available. Now all those individual bargains would be posted in a new thread of their own with the result that there are hundreds of new threads to trawl through. I think the site has become a victim of its own success. The number of members seems to have increased so much in the last few months that as more people see a deal and want to post it we are obviously going to get more repitition.
#32
I do think the site has got too big - when i joined if was kinda small and the same people posted but now every mother fooer is posting crapola and its ridiculous imo

I think the site was started as a way for consumers to post great prices but now it seems that if a certain company suggests a special offer they have it has pride of place on the site and posted by admin -- meaning money for the site plus referral links
I couldnt say how much the site makes but im sure at least one person could live from it

Im not having a go im just saying to admin that youve got to remember its supposed to be us running the site not the companies

Food for thought methinks

Can you give an example of any deals posted by Admin, as from doing a quick search it doesn't seem he has posted any?

I would like to see you back that up too dandoc2. I think you may find you are exaggerating a bit...

Ok, fair enough, :)

So can you give any examples where the Mods have posted such deals?
