or will the hulk get me lol

really goes down to how good the deal is and how many people vote hot on it.
Not sure what the magic formula is, but would surely like to know.

BTW, the hulk is green :)

People have to vote the "deal" hot or cold. If they vote it hot and it gets to around +30(ish) then it goes to the front page.

I think it's more like 27+ gary :giggle:

Another thing to remember is the replies - they add on about 0.2 degrees to the temp, but don't count towards getting it to the front page.

I never knew that emma, thanks for the tip

i have seen things on the front page that have 0 temp and no replies. i got my first front page the other day. had to check glasses lol and its still only at 17 now so how can the temp be the reason?

Rosalie - all items can be viewed through the front page. Say you click the "filter" button on the left hand side, it will show you all posts in reverse chronological order.

When we're talking about something getting to the front page, we mean getting to the home page - when you click onto www.hotukdeals.com .That's what this temperature malarky is all about :)

Not so sure that is right?

I posted my first ever deal on Thursday last week, which is currently shown at 60.4 - but only seen via the "view unrated deals" or forum.

Cant say I'm too bothered. I know it helped a few people - which is all that matters. Would of been nice to have been a flame thrower though!:w00t:

This is an old thread... the temperature required has been raised since to slow down the front page a bit.

I think 60.4 was a very respectable temperature for your first 'Hot Deal' Nice one

Why thank you!

I'm actually surprised it didn't fare better. Regardless of which retailler (though think that was the current cheapest), that £60 off deal made the camera a complete steal.

My missus thinks I'm loopy though! In the past 2 months, Ive bought 4 new digital cameras! (and we both already have decent ones!) Got one in the US 7 weeks ago - on a whim - for my youngest - who then dropped it within 2 hours of purchase! Luckily it escaped damage. So when I got back, I saw another deal on here for the canon A430 for £40 from ASDA. I bought 2 (one for each kid) - with the intention of keeping the Panasonic for myself. Having used it, I thought it was useless! Wasn't really thinking about another one - though my "big camera" a canon 300D just never gets used. Its too damn bulky to be bothered to carry around!

So, at the disgust of the missus, my CC came out again - for what I still think is a rediculus price. Maybe I should swap my SLR for a smaller version! :whistling: Just kidding!

Ah. Yes I hadn't noticed. I guess not too much activity in this section!

60.4 isn't bad for a first deal!! Post was full of info too. Well done. :)

He he. Everyone I know reckons I use 100 words when 1 would do! My eldest is autistic - and the missus now says she can see where he has got it from! Problem is - having done the research, I keep saying "that applies to me" on so many of the characteristics! (Waffleing is one of them!)

See what I mean? Too much depth!:giggle:

Anyway - so what has the bar been upped to now for a "hot deal"?
#19
I don't think you waffle, you seem very articulate and knowledgeable.

having an autistic child must be very trying...may I wish you all the best.....and I agree with dino your first deal did rather well...far better than my first attempts!!

It's at 81 now :)

60 degrees voting - the final temp may be up or down from this depending on replies etc.
#23
Admin - what is the maximum one persons vote can raise a deal?

I'd gathered it was higher for mods, but what about normal members? Does it relate to their rep or the number of posts/deals they have made?
[admin]#24
I think it's somewhere around 10/15 degrees - mods are on the same voting system as normal members and don't have any special benefit. It's related to a few things but the biggest factor is the temperature of past deals.
#25
I know that my hot vote ups a deal by 12 degrees. Many many forum members have the same power now.
#26
Im also capped at 12.
#27
I hope my typing "this is a poor deal" is not heating deals up by .2 :(
#28
It seems to jump buy 10.1 degrees when I vote (Your on 100 degrees now)

Its a good deal!!

Thats an understatement - but him having a sibbling aged 6 is more so! :giggle: I know which one is harder work! Having said that, he is doing ok at school - and now in mainstream. Thats prompted me to do a little too much - being a governor there and also webmaster! Too much to do - to little time to do it.

Not for getting on the front page - but it's also something I don't like anyway and we're getting rid of that bit of the formulae very soon.

In the hot deals forum or by clicking on "view all unrated deals" just above the deals on the home page. :)

So whats the "reputation points" malarky I just noticed in control panel? Hows that work? Whats it for?

My camera deal being discussed is my first and only deal Ive posted (though have contributed in a few other threads).

It says "Your reputation on this post is Very Positive." - "You have 79 Reputation points."

Does that mean 79 people have voted hot - or just added a "thanks" to info provided to this or any other post made? (I'm guessing the latter?)

I thought the green bars were purely based on number of posts!

this seems to be the most active suggestions topic at the mo....so just wondering what the point of the cold rating is? cos ive seen a few posts this week get mauled into being cold. its a bit harsh when someone has taken the effort to list it and link to an image etc. i think the rating should just be either warm or HOT because it would still be easy to distinguish between them and only the hot stuff would make it to the front page, but it may just encourage more people to post. to me it just seems that whether something is 4 degrees or -40 degrees everybody knows its not a great deal but having their post reach 4 degrees would at least give the OP something to build on, -40 is a bit demoralising ! i dunno, is this a problem does anyone think?
