Firstly, I'll ask that you please, please perform a search to see if your deal has already been posted. If you're not too familiar with the search system, there is a handyhelp thread here.

To create any thread on HUKD, be it a deal post or a conversation topic in the misc forum, they all start from the same point, the "submit"" button, up at the top left. >>>http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/8246/submitlj1.jpg

You'll then see this page:

http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/2699/screen8vx4.jpg

Choose one of the categories by clicking on:

Deals: Use this for specific items for sale at a set price . eg: TFT Monitor at £100 , DVD at £17.99 , Book at £7.50 and so on... You can also use this for Sales in general. eg: Up to 70% off at Debenhams. You can also use this for information or advice that will save people money or help them receive special offers .

Vouchers: Use for any discount codes that give money off, printable vouchers, special links that reduce a price or groups of codes for specific goods discounts.

Freebies: Use this ONLY for a totally free item with no sale value. downloads should ONLY be posted in the Free Software thread

The other categories are separate areas of the forums, and this help thread will focus on the deal posting areas above.

In this example we'll submit a thread for the "deal" category.

The next page will give you this option to choose a merchant or retailer. To utilise this, type the first few letters of the merchant you are interested in, and you should see a blue drop down box appear below the field, like this:

http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/7521/submit2wk5.jpg

If you see the red circle, just be patient while the list loads. Then all you have to do is click the merchant name to select it. Sometimes if a merchant has 2 parts to their name, such as Empire Direct, you can type in one of the other words, and the merchant name should still appear…. Such as typing in “direct” in this example.

If you have tried all possible combinations you can think of and the merchant still does not appear, then you could add it as a new merchant. Please try not to create duplicate merchants - we already have links to all the major ones, so you shouldn't need to be creating new merchants for tesco and the likes!! If you really must create a new one, click "here" to add it. You'll see something like this:

http://img113.imageshack.us/img113/3/merchant1me9.jpg

Should you need to add a new merchant :

Firstly input the * Name : eg: HUKD Computers.

Then add the Website link/URL (http:// is already there). You only need to use the www part: eg: http://www.hukdcomputers.com.

You can leave the Link to Image File empty at this point, or if you have the image URL to hand, just pop it in there.

Then click on Add Merchant .
If you're using a pre-existing merchant, you'll see a yellow box at the top, containing the last 5 posted deals for that merchant, in that category. Scan your eye over these to make sure you are not duplicating a deal.

This should be the next thing you see, all the fields for you to compose your post:

http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/1955/submit3tu9.jpg

Those with a red asterisk are required, others are optional fields.

Here is where you add the:

Title: example: £50 Off HUKD Computer - £100 Delivered [ Please be sure to include any delivery costs - the price and retailer name are usually included!

Description: including information about the deal, freebie, or voucher and how you get it - all the main points. Please do not just copy and paste in a wall of text, it is not necessary, as people can click through to the deal for more info.

Price: Use just digits here: eg : 100. Be sure to include deliverey charges where applicable as well.

Product name: eg: HUKD Computer

Availability: Choose from the drop down list either Online, Offline or Both.

Topic: Choose one from the drop down list that best applies to the deal. eg: Computers and Software

Link to image file: example: http://www.hotukdeals.com/images/hukd_logob.gif. This can be obtained by right clicking over an image and selecting either: Properties in Internet Explorer or Image Location in Firefox , then highlighting/copying the complete image URL/address/location and pasting it into the field, as above example. (gif or .jpg or .jpeg or .bmp or .png or .tiff or .tif)

Direct link: This can be obtained from your browser's address bar when on the product page. Please try not to paste in any affiliate or referral links, as they are not allowed on HUKD.

Tags: Tag your deal with any keywords you feel might apply. Some examples would be the brand name, wii, PS3, monitor, fashion etc etc.

Start & end date: Self-explanatory - just one note though - be sure to put the correct year in, as if you don't put a year, the deal will default to 1969 and become marked as "expired".
If a coupon has been previously posted on HUKD, you can attach it to your deal post. For example, if you are posting a Dell deal above, and you want to link it to the existing 10% off code. Just click the little checkbox before you click submit.

BEFORE you post your voucher, be sure to pop the code into the "quicksearch" box at the top right to see if it has already been posted. You can also add and attach a new voucher, if it has not yet been posted on the forums. If you click the "add new voucher" button, some new fields will appear which you can complete. For regular voucher posts, fields which may need clarification:

Titles: Many people forget to add the retailer name to thread titles when they are posting a voucher code - please be sure to add it in here.

Discount: This is the amount of the discount, be it £10 off £100, or 10%. If you are posting a free postage code, simply pop "Free postage" in this field.

Code: Paste or type the exact promo code in this field. If it is a direct linked discount, or a printable voucher, you can leave this field blank.

Minimum spend (£): Please remember to add the min spend in here, if there is one associated with the discount.
Click submit voucher when you or done, and click the final "submit" button at the bottom to complete your deal. http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/130779/../130754/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

You need to upload them to an image host such as tinypic. Browse until you find the image you want and double click on it, click Upload then copy the link in 'IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards' and paste it into your post.

So long as the site where the image is taken from stays there, a quicker way is to right click the image, select properties, copy the URL and paste it into the HDUK form!

Not a good idea, hotlinking is frowned upon on the net, stealing bandwidth. Also, if it's a disreputable site, they could change the image to something nasty, which has happened in the past.

I'm confused
Isn't that what you are recommending in your post above. I quote

When you post a new deal, and paste the image link into the image URL field in the form, HotUKDeals makes a copy of that image onto their servers. So that's not stealing their bandwidth.

If however, you post an image in a reply in a thread, and just use the link from the retailer site, without uploading to imageshack first... then that is kind of frowned upon.

I did this in the amibees Amazon thread yesterday.

I am new to these things, so I shall see if I can upload it to photobucket and edit my post.

Everybody does it.... the danger is if you do it on a non-reputable site, they can change the image to something nasty.

Thanks for the info
Now I just need to find some hot deals.

No sassie, I explained a few posts above. In the opening post, the image is copied to our servers.

In the past, we have had people hotlinking images in the misc forum, from funny image sites for example, only to find a few minutes later, they turn into something very nasty, and not family friendly!

oh right, im with ya now, thanks

Ah well , live and learn, that's me being frowned upon then, lol.
I used to upload it to photobucket but it was too long winded so just right clicked etc. (For deals that is)

Guess I'd better start reverting back.

I assume though emma the big companies are not going to fuss or worry as you are technically promoting their goods ?
I understand with sme of the one mand and their dog sites though. :)

I have the imageshack toolbar installed. I can right click any image, and click "upload to imageshack". It generates me a link in a few seconds. Really handy, as I do that a lot.

I know it should be okay, but i've changed it anyway, 'best practice' and all that. :)

Cheers Emma
I run shy from toolbars as in the past they used to be full of spyware and slow my old pc down. I'll have a look at it though because it's a good time saver :)

After a deal has been submitted, is it possible for the OP to remove it or ask a mod to delete the deal?

Please read the for sale forum rules.

Wouldn't the ebooks be copyrighted material ?

Hi!
I'm new here and even don't know if this is the right place for my question. I was wondering the following:
I'noticed a lot of users have attached to their items a "Go to Deal" red button which leads to the webside that sales the item. How do they do that? It's very convenient and will be much appreciated if you explain to me how this could be done.

Thank you!

It's automatic when you submit a deal, freebie, voucher or competition. Please be aware that we do not allow self promotion of any kind on the forums.

I click that button then paste URL address from tinypics.

It should work, unless you are pasting in the wrong address to start with. Why not post the link here, or PM it to me, and I'll let you know.

Duplicate Thread and Repost Information

Please note these are not hard and fast rules, but guidelines and as stated in the 'Code of Conduct' moderators discretion will on occasion be used.

If an item price changes by a relative percentage of it's value and the thread is under one month old, a new thread is acceptable.

Any thread over one month old would be fair enough to receive a repost if there is a price drop or not, as this allows newer members to receive notification of that deal. With site membership increasing as fast as it is, that would become more significant for new users, as it would be unlikely for them to easily stumble across a month old thread.

However, some threads contain a lot of useful information about the product and whether a month old or not, those would preferably be better either pointed to in a new thread or the older thread updated.

Some guidelines for a repost are:

1] If the product has dropped in price by at least £1.00
2] If a thread is at least one month old.
3] If specific changes or information for a product has increased its value.
4] If the product goes out of stock, expired and you are unable to back order it, but it has been restocked within at least one week.

Some guidelines for updating a thread are:

1] If it is less than one month old and there hasn't been a significant or relative price drop of at least £1.00
2] If the information on the product changes to decrease its value.
3] Adding information to the original thread is deemed to be more beneficial to anyone who has already bought it.

Hi,
Im a newbie too and have made use of a number of great dealsalready - good work everyone!

I am finding the layout pretty daunting still and a bit confusing but I guess I will get there in the end.

My main question is, how do you actually vote for something to be hot or cold? I cant see an obvious tab to click on for this? Or is it picking up on the words themselves?

Many Thanks

Buttons to left of deal title when you're logged in

http://www.hotukdeals.com/images/deal_votehot.gif >> HOT (up to +9°)

http://www.hotukdeals.com/images/deal_votewarm.gif >> WARM (+ or - 1° > NB once temp goes above around 40°, this will actually drop the deal temp)

http://www.hotukdeals.com/images/deal_votecold.gif >> COLD (up to -9°)

Only displayed on Deals; Vouchers; Freebies & Competition Forums. In FS/FT you can leave feedback instead :)

hi, I wanted to ask HUKD members for views / advice on whether it's worth pursuing a supplier who accepts an order and payment and then says they can't supply. The order concerned was a huge mis-price. Can you point me to advice explaining how I post a discussion item please? Or if it's been discussed before, point me to that?
thanks and thanks for the work that goes into the site: I spread the word.
