**THIS NO LONGER WORKS SINCE SITE UPDATE**

http://hukd.garyrip.com/pm

Please note: This checks the profiles of the mods on the HotUKDeals website to see if they are online, so if the above link is slow it is because HUKD is slow!

Can mods make themselves invisible though?

Can mods make themselves invisible though?

as far as i know none of them do... except maybe fordy?

i think it might be HUKD mod policy to not show them as invisible?
#4
Rep given for useful tool that should be on the site
#5
Went to add rep but apparently I have to spread some before I can give u more.
#6
A nice idea... if possible could be last time online or last post...
#7

II like this; thanks. I am quite surprised that there still isn't a 'right-side box' with this info and quick link to on-line mod. It's been suggested a few times.
#10
i think this is a great idea,
admin, is there any chance of getting the link into one of the side boxes ?
#11
Brilliant. Much needed! Rep added. :)

What's the point... when the "report" button in every post instantly emails all mods online...

There is that, but it would be better if the wording could be changed once you've hit the report button.

Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.

I know that it is okay to report other things than those listed, but when I was new, I decided against using it, as I thought that it was against the rules. :)

I think that is the standard VB message that appears on any forum, I'm not sure if admin can edit it... but yes, I do think some more situations for reporting would be useful in there :)

Unfortunately, like lots of things on HUKD, how to contact the mods isn't that obvious.

e.g. If I want to ask a question, I wouldn't think to press the report button on someone's post, as I don't want to report them, or for that matter, report anything.

Also, sometimes where some Mods are more active in some areas than others, you get a feel for certain Mods, and it can be useful (or for want of a better word , comforting/reassuring) to be able to contact the specific Mod that you know of, than have to deal with some stranger.

Nice one, thats pretty cool:thumbsup:

Not sure whether I care whether the Mods are online or not but having a quick link to all their names is good for contact purposes.

Any reason why only the online reps are clickable Gary ? I would have thought it more beneficial to be able to contact at any time.

Just my opinion. Respect and thanks for an excellent idea :)

QUOTE]
It's because we don't necessarily understand how mods function, a bit, so if we hit :!: it seems like it's some sort of emergency, whereas we just want to tell you something - a bit like 999 against whatever number it is for non-emergency police action. So, we know that one of you is out there for sorting out stuff immediately but there is other stuff that we would like you to get to when you have a chance - hence 'quick on-line'. The report button is quite clear on reporting and it's serious stuff.
Happy birthday again, Emma xxx

FYI: 181 different IP's have looked at the link in second post.
#22
Gary I asked a question ^^^^ up there post 20. Wondered what your thoughts were ?
#23
Well, if you wanted to message a mod regardless of wether they were online or offline then you would just send them a message normally?

There would be no need to check their status so i couldnt see what you would be clicking my link in the first place?

Its do-able but i just cant see the logic at the moment :)

My logic was that yours is the only place all the mod's names are together so it just made sense (to me) to have them all contactable through that one place ?

More relevant I suppose if your idea was taken up and in a prominent position !

Regards and apologies if I'm not making sense :)

Whoever added the tag "Rep begging" is being harsh.

IDEA: Can a mod make this thread a sticky or make a link somewhere on the hukd page to the mod messenger.

P.S. Great tool Gary!

We don't do stickies. You can bookmark it if you wish. But we encourage the use of the "report" button to email all moderators instead of PMing one.

Thats HUKD's answer at the moment to quite a few things... Bookmark it! :)
#32
Has there been any more Mod's added to the team recently?

Nope, you were the last one gary_rip.

Not very elegant code, you've encoded the member numbers into the URL so I change the member numbers and see if anyone is online.

Would you like me to hackout some PHP for you to do this? I presume you are running MySQL server? Give me the schema of the database table that you need and I'll hack it up today. I've just done some PHP and I wanna do some more!

eg;

http://hukd.garyrip.com/pm/mod_live.php?admin=1&mod=18840,4240,4277,5568,4463,28053,5341,3947,3045&smod=20005

But where do we get the member no's from? How about a PHP page where you can tell if anyone is online, by typing their username

Hover over your avatar, member number is in the link in the bottom of your browser, or click into their profile, the number is in the weblink.
