Move on.

Anyway I am happy to take my slap on the wrist, but I suggest that the rules be altered to remove any contridiction.

What contradiction?
#3
Prepared to be banned myself now but that is silly.
There are LOADS of posts on here that circumvent the filter, and yes, i have reported them, even posted in a thread that they should be banned for so doing and it was ignored.

What contradiction?

According the to the rules, attempting to bypass the word filter is an infringement however in this case the person has received an infringement despite not trying to bypass the word filter which is a contradiction. You've said abuse of the word filter will result in a ban but this isn't in the forum rules, I think the point being made is this should be in the forum rules if it's something people can be potentially banned for.

Rude posts or images are also not acceptable and will be deleted without warning at the discretion of Admin and Moderators.
Please be polite to your fellow members at all times

Doesn't that part cancel out any possible contradiction here...calling someone a BLEEP is surely considered rude?

Honestly, I am surprised people get these infraction thingys for such posts...people must forever be getting them because people seem to be forever making posts similar to that. But it's not the end of the world dude - don't call people names, lesson learned, move on.

'rude' is a vague term especially when just above that bypassing the filter is explicitly defined, I have accidentally posted words that have been filtered (which are not swears, such as threadcrapping) however I never realised that was considered an infraction. If an explicit reason is going to be given for an infringement it should match up with the forum rules, in this case that means either matching it to a rude post or modifying the forum rules to add that use of filtered words, despite still being filtered is an infringement.

Well, I disagree and feel you and de_deej are just being pedantic...but I definitely see your point :)
#8
It's not being pedantic, Emma's note does not refer to the forum rules which technically means it is not an infringement. If it has been deemed to be a 'rude' post then that's what Emma should have referred to, if using any word which is part of the filter is an infringement then it should say that within the forum rules.

As it stands, I do not know what the exact position of the forum is with regards to posting words which are filtered, especially as this filter list appears to have been changed recently. For example if I use a filtered word in a non-rude nor offensive context, that is seemingly allowed under forum rules however based on Emma's comments above it would appear that is not allowed...hence the contradiction.

I think the warning is generally given when it seems someone is knowingly trying to manipulate the filter. It's not a particularly large problem but the mods are using the infraction system to keep track of any serial offenders. Its kind of like a card system so that if its just a warning that's cool but if it happens multiple times its easy to follow that history.
#10
The filter wasn't being manipulated - the 'offending' word was written normally and filtered as it should have been, the user has made no attempt to interfere with the way the filter works.

I had one of these emails a while back for writing c star star p. Sometimes its not a case of people trying to circumvent the swear filter, more that the swear filter can totally change the context of a post if left as is. For example the cp word looks exactly the same as the st word when filtered so can make a post come across too 'strong' to the reader, if that makes any sense?

for example..

wouldn't buy it, its cp
compared to
wouldn't buy it, its st
which would both read as...
wouldn't buy iy, its ****

It's then up to the end reader to try to decide what the poster was trying to convey and how strongly they felt about said item. As we all know, it's hard enough trying to get a point across on here without offending people as it is (even WITH smileys)

At the end of the day, if you can turn c star star p into its true form you're a corrupt individual anyway ;-)

Is it just me or have the comments in the 'reasons' field for infractions changed for everyone (well, everyone naughty enough to have infractions anyway) - its no longer giving a 'reason' but just stating the length of the infraction... :?:

obviously not had one since the change, as mine state a reason

Mine are pretty old (nearly a year) and used to state a reason - but now just say "2 point infraction (or 1 day suspension)" - seems an odd change to make...

nope mine are pretty old and still state reason
#16
How odd. Can't see why they would want to remove the reason!

I'm certain Rayman's reason used to say "abuse of the rep system" and now its like this:

Based on the person's posting history I would say the reason for bumping an old thread was for a +1 - as far as I'm aware there are no rules here against grave digging though?

I think there are John. I recall that magicbeans was infracted. There has to be a good reason for bumping. I'll have a trawl through the rules.

Yes, here it is :
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/81946/hukd-forum-code-of-conduct/

Bumping old threads without good reason is not permitted and will be classed as spamming.

Yet the one about the BBC and license fees that got bumped, ended up being removed - despite it generating a fair few constructive replies.

If thats spam, god knows why some of the crap posted isnt!

Yes, that's right, about the BBC/license fee thread. It was an interesting thread with some good relevant comments.

Also right about the rubbish that is posted for no apparent reason at all, not funny, not informative, not asking advice , not even communicating that gets reinstated after spamming!!

I think its probably because the mods know someone will eventually step out of line and their whip can be cracked. Cant see any other logical reason.

Well you know me, always looking for the best in everyone. I think it's because they think it's all total silliness.

Thanks for finding that Chesso, that's exactly what I was looking for.

A member was suspended last night for grave digging - he/she bumped 5 or 6 threads that were 4 or 5 years old(including the BBC one) then deleted their post to hide the fact they had bumped it.....so the mods do take action against this.
[helper]#32
guv
How do you know that?

If you are the last poster in a thread but delete your post, then in forum view it will still list you as the last poster, so you can see that the individual had posted in the thread then deleted their post.

And because there was nothing on tv I was in Misc at the time and saw it happening.......
