I think thats a good idea actually. My only worry would be people abusing this just to push up their own deals, trying to make it popular. Good thinking though
#2
really good idea. Only 1 vote per person to stop abuse of the system.
#3
per deal^

Obviously one "vote" per head, same as the heat feature.

Ye of course, but what I meant is that people may be dishonest about whether they bought it just to push up their own deals.

thats an amazing idea!!!
i hate scrolling through pages of £2000 patio doors and that LOL!!!

what an idea! :santa:

What's the point?

It wouldn't be exactly the same, but the number of times 'go to deal' is clicked would probably provide a similar set of results without needed a user to vote twice so to speak. So a 'most popular' table could be based on the number of times 'go to deal' is clicked in the previous (eg) 24-hours.

To be honest I expect the results would be pretty similar to the hottest deals, but it would be interesting to know if that is the case...

Yeah I know what you mean, I'm sure most click-throughs don't end in a sale, but I would expect the proportion of click-throughs to sales to be pretty steady for most deals posted (so even if its not a direct measure of how many people bought the item, its probably proportional to it...)

We do take into account number of clicks when adjusting the temp (it's not just based on votes). We used to give it more weight when we first started doing deal temp but the problem is a OOS deal, inaccurate deal, misprice or even cold but funny deal will get lots of clicks.

Click throughs add heat / lack of clicks subtract heat?? Isn't this more easily abused than the proposed idea, you could click your deal several hundred times to add false heat - or have I read your comment wrong??

Lack doesn't subtract. Clicks do add. It doesn't allow multiple clicks.

The votes are worth much more though as I said the clicks aren't worth much due to problems with their value.

The problem is with the current system is that people will vote hot and move on without ever really looking into the deal, I've seen some deals get quite a lot of heat despite the fact not a single person bought the product. As an example, Andy posted a deal for a CS4 upgrade package - technically it was a good deal as it was cheaper than other places but to use the upgrade you had to own a fairly expensive and not very common CS2/CS3 package and spend several hundred pounds to get the new one. I doubt anyone here even qualified for the upgrade package never mind purchased it but the deal still got a decent amount of heat which wasn't a very accurate indication of the deal.

I don't think that would give a very acurate figure imho.
Personally, if I'm going to purchase something that's posted, I make a point of not clicking 'go to deal' as I don't want the hukd affiliate cookie on my pc. Instead I'll go to quidco or another cashback site and go to the retailer through that site.
I'd imagine that, this being a site for people after the best deal, most (or at least a large proportion) do the same thing.

I suspect its probably the other way round - I doubt most people are that savvy (for a start remember there is close to a 10:1 ratio of guests to members at any time on here...) - but regardless its not really about the precise figure of purchases but more the proportion of them...

Excellent idea OP, have some rep for it!

Would hopefully show popular deals that people are actually taking advantage of rather than just posting and people going oooh Cornflakes 99p, I usally pay £1.10 for them, this is a bargin!

Am using this site far less than I used to as it used to contain hot deals available in the UK but now is full of offers from Tesco, if I were to see much of the 'offers' in a town I would walk on by without giving it a second thought.

I used to sit a trawl through all the posts in the hope of seeing a genuine deal but alas it is becoming few and far between these days, this would hopefully being back the good old days!

Another thing I would like to see would be the original price being inputed into a box and being able to see the percentage saving.
also...
Could post titles also be constructed automatically. We already have to input
- Company
- Price
- Online/In store

Could this info not be used to create the post title
