'Ignore' option

baddev88baddev88

I've got a few users on my ignore list, but I'm still seeing their threads. Is this normal?

I know their posts semi appear but is there any way to completely remove them?

The comments made by any member on your individual "Ignore List" are compressed (hidden) from view bur, as you are aware, may be seen by clicking the button (link) alongside them.

The respective comment(s) may also be seen (indirectly) if another member (not on your "Ignore List") quotes all, or part, of an "Ignored" member's text.

Threads created by any member in the "Ignore List" are still visible in the Forum summary view.

Previous discussions have occurred (across various threads) to raise the request to not see threads by any member in an "Ignore List", but this has previously not resulted in any change to the way in which the site functions.

he speaks sense above, the developers don't have a **** clue how to implement this so can't be bothered to try.

^^^^^ I'm sure there will be others threads I haven't noticed in the past/remembered.

It is relatively easy to implement in the Forum summary view but it would adversely affect the speed of delivery of rendered pages to the client web browser (on the member's local viewing device).

However, completely removing all mention of an "ignored" member's text in any thread is certainly not a trivial task to implement due to the possibilities of embedded (multiple levels of depth of) quoted comments.

    What about...

    somebody
    Some text...
    somebody else
    Some more text...

    another somebody

Yes... or you could just construct a demonstration comment like I did.

Oh I see what you mean. Not sure I would want the "somebody else" conversation as they are just feeding the troll.

    :)

Yes... that is where the non-trivial design/implementation needs consideration.

Working now I think?? Just to show it can be done on the front end and a little more thinking but thinking is good! May wrap it into something more useful one day. However, I can already see people are rushing to download the fanpage specific version ;)

Twelve downloads in total (six of which were present before your last comment, so that may mean just you & five others have downloaded the script twice) :)

Is it convenient to create a new script for each potential member in an "Ignore list" though, & does that mean you may have to create 572,780+ scripts? :)

Still, like you mentioned, it may be a way to determine which users are "Ignored" the most by viewing the individual downloads of each of the member-specific scripts. Not ideal for a site-wide implementation as you can appreciate, unless you have an automated script creation process when a new member joins the site.

Do you know how many have downloaded the core files needed for the bespoke version of the site? (Although I appreciate that could be a long way from the actual number that use it beyond their first download & subsequent trial).

I've added this to the queue, sorry I was a bit late on the rounds today :(.

Given that every time this is brought up it's either ignored or dismissed I wouldn't bother hurrying yourself..... we already know the outcome.
