Use advanced search

Why? Why not fix the basic search!
#3
Can't you moan in just one thread?
#4
Not about different things, sorry. Makes more sense to have separate threads. Dont read if you're not interested.

no im interested hence my reply in the other one...I just think this one is a little ott the search system is ample enough, the advanced feature is there for those who do need a little more detail etc...there was a beta search a few months back that utilised google seemed ok, not sure why they dropped it
#6
It's rubbish, you search for an item and the results do not sppear in date order, what's the point in that???

What are you trying to search for? Perhaps we can give you some tips.

about the 100th time this has been brought up.

Developers think it works fine. 100% of users disagree.

result = tough, its staying lol

Sorry but it is not ample enough. You shouldnt have to use the advanced search to get it in date order (most recent first). It renders the basic search pretty much useless (or if not useless you at least have to trawl through all the results to find recent ones).

Typical of developers though, they cant be bothered.

Yes perhaps you could give me a tip - I want to use the basic search and get the results in order of most recent first rather than completely random. I dont want to have to use the advanced search for this.

The basic search is USELESS. I thought everyone realised this.

Personally, I think it should be taken off the page completely as it serves no purpose.

2 words togerther doesn't work well
#12
You could use Gary Rip's custom Google search.

Or...they could fix it...how hard could it be?

First rule in developing software - listen to user feedback. In this case, I would say 99% of users think it's rubbish.

And when you pay for the site I'm sure they'll listen!

It is user action that makes the site money, a lot of it!

I dont think you quite understand - without users there would be no site and the developers would not get paid.

Actually I fully understand, but do you think 1000's of users would stop using the site because of a poorly implemented basic search function?
It hasn't happened yet...
I just believe that when a site is free to use, you "get what you pay for"

Well if you dont ask you dont get. I'm amazed you're actually spending time critisising me for this, what will you gain?

Because I believe I am allowed my opinion, at least i was last time I asked ;-)
Plus your way of asking can hardly be making the devs want to help..... :whistling:

The search facility on the site has improved alot over the years but its still not perfect imo. Alot of searching through such a large website will put enormous stress on the servers and I would prefer the site to remain responsive and quick rather than have a perfect search facility.

My number one tip to anyone wishing to have the perfect way of searching the deals on this site would be to send all the deals posted on here to your gmail account. ( you can do this by clicking on the 'customise deals and alerts' top right of page)

I have it set up so that those emails pass my inbox and go directly into a folder called bargains. I can then use my gmail search to find specific keywords. Extremely handy if you are looking for a particulour item. Screenshot below.

Dont you see the irony?:-

I would prefer the site to remain responsive and quick rather than have a perfect search facility

vs

send all the deals posted on here to your gmail account.

Would you not get the same effect by using advance search on this site? Not having a go, just interested. If you can persuade me that your way is better, I would gladly set it up tomorrow.....

And re the OP - I think basic search sorts by relevancy, not date. Should be easy eough to have a "relevancy / date" setting in customised options. Personally I think most people would go for the date...........
#26
OK guys, just tested the advanced search facility and it works perfectly. I should of done that a long time ago I think lol

And csiman your right, probably wouldn't be a good idea for everyone to set that email forwarding thing up.

I stand corrected :-)
#27
Try searching now, I have altered the search slightly to be more biased towards date. If you are still having trouble, please let me know the search term(s) you are searching for and what more accurate results would be.
