The depth of ignorance among some members here is also shocking, although I wouldn't call it funny.

You can see a pattern though. The people declaring support for the BNP (there have been several) are the same people displaying ignorance across nearly all serious issues discussed. They also - with a notable exception - frequently rely on personal abuse to force their views, symptomatic of their general lack of education. Even the exception is, I imagine, exercising self-restraint based on his reported experience of what happened when he lost control (I admire his continued restraint btw).

Anyway, all this is to say that the hope of reasoning with the unreasonable is severely limited using this medium imo. Threads on the BNP and other emotive subjects are likely to degenerate into slagging matches, and in that atmosphere ignorance thrives. It's why I now avoid those threads. Prejudices are more likely to be reinforced than challenged in Misc. As sassie might say: 'What's the point when it's the usual suspects saying the same thing?'

You'd have to argue whether a shopping website is really the most enlightened place for a political discussion...

As opposed to where? Surely the point is its a big forum, politcally neutral and a very wide range of people who participate - there aren't that many things similar to it that I can think of...

Tend to agree.

Most of the discussions turn into the average MISC threads where all the kids post views to incite a negative response (trolling)
banned#16
would be too much to hope, the same few get wound up on hem and then come lash out in other threads, and whilst we are at it a few could also rememeber there are some young members on here, if they really need to carry out some of their posting theres msn or plenty or porn sites to go get off on

Yep, but it's the dysfunctional adults who actually produce the negative responses that concern me, esp the handful who thrive on making things personal and abusive.

They aren't subverting serious topics for kicks, they appear to have grown up in a culture of abuse themselves. Otherwise, how to explain it, and how are their children expected to break the cycle?

Pretty depressing stuff really - and to keep it on topic, the sort of thing the BNP thrives on too.

lol do you know I noticed that as well. Must be the onset of the hotter weather as the less than thinly veiled sex chat has got progessively worse over the last week or so. Some of it is cringeworthy and to be honest if its to be allowed then the pretence that this is a family friendly forum should be lifted and most of the words in the swear filter should be allowed.

But what if you want to find the latest on dry roasted peanuts and lively political debate in one place?

Hon, get me beer and dry-roasted peanuts, will ya? Have you seen this headline in the Sun - WTF is Gordon Brown on about now? I'm voting BNP at the general election, I tell ya. That'll show those pigs with their snouts in the trough! ... Aww thanks hun, but you forgot the friggin' peanuts. Wot? None left?! Bloody hell! I'll check HUKD for a TESCO code.

I don't think the majority are saying that but the few are ruining it for the rest of us. Why oh why the feel they need to be so rude or abusive is beyond me, maybe they think there being clever couldn't care. Report buttons there for a reason. Its just a shame for the others who do have a real understanding and political interest in the matter. I hope the admins can see it both ways on this.

I think what's being said is there fed up seeing thought provoking posts by the few silly beggars on here.

You can remove Misc for me. FS/FT in it's current format looks numbered anyway, it's far too much hassle to moderate and doesn't make the site a penny.

BNP discussions are allowed on HUKD as long as the thread complies with the HUKD Forum Code of Conduct - relevant breaches will be reviewed & the appropriate action taken at that time. Also some MISC threads are member spammed, & may need to reviewed & unspammed if members let us know via the report button.
III. Trolling, Trolls:
* Trolls are people who for no reason want to disrupt a forum topic by constantly posting out of context posts, derogatory comments, throwing insults, making personal attacks and deliberately inciting a negative response from other members. This is called trolling; in public forums and won't be tolerated here.
* Users or groups of users who continue to attack other members because of their views and opinions, attempting to beat them down or demean them, will have posts deleted and may be banned.

IV. Racism, Religion, Sexuality:
Attacks on a person's faith, race, colour, sexual preference will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of Admin and Moderators without prior warning to the offenders.
* A person's religious, sexual, political or any other orientation in life should be respected at all times.
* Any replies or discussion on these topics, should only be posted in the Miscellenaeous forum and must remain respectful and constructive.

V. Profanities, Foul Language, Rudeness:
There is a word filter in place to help remove profanities from posts.
* Anyone attempting to get round the word filter by any means will face a ban.
* Rude posts or images are also not acceptable and will be deleted without warning at the discretion of Admin and Moderators.
* Please be polite to your fellow members at all times.

VI. Reporting Offending Posts:
Members have the ability to report posts made by others if they think any of the rules have been broken and we thank you for using this feature.
* A report button is placed to the left of every post in the form of a red triangle in a white background and containing an exclamation mark.
* Reported posts will notify Admin and Moderators of the offending post. Please include a brief description and links with your report.
* Do not reply to an offending post, leave it to Admin and Moderators who will deal with the situation as soon as possible.
* Responding to offending posters in any thread with aggressive replies, or inciting them to continue will be considered as an offence in itself.

I think you're wrong about FS/T. It makes money by drawing people to the site and keeping them here. Without it, a whole lot of people would have less reason to keep visiting on a regular basis.

To be honest i dont think many bother reporting anymore, it is always the same mebers doing what needs reporting, so i think this speaks in itself why people dont bother anymore

You can use any report button in theory sassie - we receive the report with the thread link inserted, but a member just needs to give an explanation in the report box along with a general thread title & forum information & we can check it from there. A number of members do this already for spammed posts :)

There's a newsletter? I once had a leaflet shoved through the door with something along the lines of 'they're stealing our clothes' on it... Curiosity got the better of me, turns out they were rather upset that charity donations left on the doorstep were suposingly being pilfered by East Europeans... for what purpose I do not know.
