theres one thing that everyone can do to force there hand

dont click on any links through the site.if someone posts a deal open a new tab and go to the site yourself.

no money to this site for a few days will make them worry

before we start threats and silly games like that, lets just wait for a reply shall we?

the question is simple admins, you've seen the feedback. will you please consider putting the old site back - at least temporarily.
#3
the site is bloody awful, completely unusable and a total mess.

I like the new colour scheme, but surely that could ahve been done on the old site, maddness.

I produce websites on a part-time basis, to fund myself through uni, but if I'd ever designed something like this for someone, I wouldn't have been paid. It's sooooo wrong in so many ways. ColdUKdeals!!!
#6
I was just getting used to the other one (which was quite simple).& i know i've been on it long enough.
This new one is a shambles IMHO. Information all over the place.
Definatly a COLD vote from me.
#7
Can we have a response from the person responsible for this awful change please?
#8
What a mess.
Not using ie7 just to get it to work.
Only using firefox and what a mess it makes.

I dont know yet - it'll get some getting use to, after a few tweaks im sure everything will turn out perfectly fine!
:-D

Up there for thinking - down there for dancing :whistling:

I can't believe how child like everyone is being over this, threatening to leave and trying to boycott the referrals and what not. Yes, I think the old design was better, but everyone is over reacting and throwing their toys out of the pram. From what I've seen the backend of the website is mostly based on vBulletin forums, so hopefully there will be a 'classic' theme made available at some point in the future, if not, it shouldn't be too hard to create a custom style sheet for the website. It's not the end of the world, the same offers will still be submitted it is just a different theme.

Must agree with the above posters.+site keeps crashing :?:?
#12
do not like the new site
if we could go back 2 the old
way it would be better

:w00t:The old site was sooooooo easy to use, however, i am sure if we give it time it may work, but i must say i did find the old site much easier, i am abit lost at the moment.
#14
I used to get 60,70,80 deal alerts to my AOL address each day. Today i got 1 informing me of the change. Is it just me or do you need to set that up again ? At this rate i'll get used to it just before my summer holidays :-)
#15
am not too fussed on the new layout, but have to say its been brilliant to log on and not have my pooter crash on me.
#16
Lets hope they do
Not only does this look bad, but on firefox I can't even post a reply nevermind a deal, having to use IE to post this aagggghhhhh.
If admin are going to keep this new look, then how about a choice of new/old style, like windows did for 98/XP.
Again if not how about someone starting a new site, with the look and feel of the old HDUK. must be a money spinner for someone with the time, with all the click throughs and affiliates, but once you've made the money from it dont launch a new style site during the night without even asking people, if they want or like it first, maybe invest in faster servers first.
I wonder if the BBC would have reported on this site if they had had looked at this version.
#17
mass exodus to MSE seems to be the most likely scenario, as the admin would never revert back, and the database is unlikely to be able to roll back.

#18
MSE?

What is that?
#19
I've found two decent deals not posted on this site today and i didn't and wont post them.

I'll wait for a usable alternate site to pop up, or for this place to go back to normal.

It's not April 1st is it?

Your right, I came from MSE because I didnt like the look of it, and found HDUK a refreshing change from a lot of the badly designed sites.
I do hope the site mods dont stubbornly stick with it hoping people will have to get used to it, could be a worse mistake than the site change in the first place, or clinton denying he had sexual relations with monica.
I know opinions are like ar**holes and everyones got one, but mass opinion seems to want the old look so please listen to your customers and revert back to the old or have both side by side.
#22
**Sigh** Change is never good - shame they had to change something great for something average :(
#23
Agreed, it's awful. Please revert.
#24
Everything works for me, no lapping text and everything is in place but the site is still awful.
#25
last post!!! can't stand to be on IE
Found a nice simple deal site called Dealstreet. found it around the time of joining HDUK. Ive not used them in the past, not even registered because they only seem to get a few posts a day, but all that can change if we all move over. If a few of us ( a lot of us) contact them maybe they will implement a few changes and make it feel a lot more like home, and then we can all post and view there from now on.

thanks for the link, see you all there..... and will the last one to leave switch the lights off please ;-)

It's a shame admin/the mods can't be bothered to communicate with us on this issue - they just seem to figure that if they ignore us long enough we'll shut up and keep using the site.

More likely people will vote with their mice and leave.
#28
Or they could just be busy trying to fix bugs and get the site up to a standard that will make it more usable. People are acting like 3 year olds I don't like this I don''t like that. When the supermarket changes they layout and you go for your weekly shop you don't like it. However give it a chance try using it for a few days.

The main reason that people complain they do not know how to navigate it is because your brain is ingrained and trained in the old site. After a while you will learn the new one and it won't be so difficult. along with the bug fixes etc it will all be fine in the end.

In terms of a usability style this is acutally better than the old one it is just not properly implemented yet, and people are not used to it.
#29
The new design is based on the concept Web 2.0. Basically its a total copy of Digg.com.

Web 2.0 is supposed to be the new inthing among web designers. I am surprised all those web designers who are commenting that it is awful and that they have designed websites all their lives havent heard of this concept.

Web 2.0 is here to stay and is the most preferred designs. You will get used to it and will love it when you get used to it.

Cheer up:roll:

i dont disagree with you, but the simple fact is, if its not properly implemented yet, it should not be on the live site.

the fact the admins don't even have the decency to respond speaks volumes.

btw: gerkin, it is possible to be web 2.0 without making a site a pain in the **** to navigate. a forum navigation is pretty much set in stone. im a web designer and pretty much a computer geek. I can use a forum - but this site is just some sort of mismash/subset of a forum and its simply awful.
#31
What is so awful about the new design ? I found it easy to navigate. Surprising that the 'computer geeks' are so opposed to change. Web designs keep changing and for a website to remain popular it has to adapt to the new designs that come up. The new design isnt that hard to navigate unless you are too thick, IMO.

Having said that, there should have been a Beta preview for a select number of users before unleashing it on masses.

When supermarkets do that it's to make you hunt around the store looking for what you want in the hope that you will buy things you did come in for/ don't want as you search. It's purely a way to make more money, I don't know if the same thing applies to websites.
#33
Well new site is not that bad once you get the hang of it.Mods please give a detailed walkthrough of how to navigate the site so people dont go around in circles like i did yesterday;-)

There was another thread about the new layout (can't remember how to find it now) that had a temperature bar on it. It got to -3000 before it was removed.
That's a lot of unhappy people, and they can't all be computer geeks (I'm not, not smart enough!)

the major major problem for me, is that the forum no longer acts like a forum. it doesn't appear to be because of the CSS - since the old vbulletin links don't work (Even though it is still vbulletin software).

I think you can hardly call people thick because the "Last Page" link no longer appears in the main page, and the forums dont look like forums. the hierarcal links that appeared at the top (you know the HUKD --> Deal Requests --> (dealname) ) are missing.

I can get used to the new look - thats not my major issue. its the missing functionality that is driving me away.
#36
Maybe its just me and im a bit thick but I dont seem to be finding any new deals etc

When I click on the links at the top, (New-All for example) the same things keep popping up or I keep on managing to find deals/offers from a year ago..lol.....

Please give people the choice admin, let us have the option of which view we prefer and use the one that makes us happy and keeps us comin back to what id say was one of, if not the best deal/bargin hunters sites on the web....

I loved the simplicity of the old site, you could quickly find what you were after and that funnily made me want to spend more time searching for and visiting sites looking at offers etc.

Just give us the option of using the old version and let peeps who like this version continue as they are.... Thanks for reading.

[FONT=Arial][SIZE=2]Web 2.0 is one of these buzz words which plenty of people don't understand. This site has pretty much the same functionality it had before. There is no folksonomy(social tagging) here or wiki and it's not an online application in the same way that something like 'Yahoo Mail' is or Google Docs. To say this is Web 2.0 isn't true. It's just a redesigned forum.

It almost looks like they've made an attempt to comply with the WC3 Guidelines and DDA stuff, but in reality it's way off that as it doesn't even meet basic standards in that respect.

So if the changes aren't for the above reasons why were they made? I'm questioning it also, the site is far trickier to use now than before and that is a bad thing. I get the distinct impression it's one person saying "I like this so it stays", a bit like bad company websites being purely designed by "IT" or purely by "PR" etc. To get a good balanced site you need input from various area's and this site evidently really lacks just that. It appears the majority of users aren't keen on the interface design and I don't blame them. It's a pig to use, the simplistic approach has being lost, and that's not down to how you code a site, that's down to site design and taxonomy. They could have made a CSS version of the old site without any real problems and many people would have barely spotted the difference.

At the end of the day, yes sites have to change with the times, but this has really made a bit of a hash of things. Novice users will struggle with the design and the links, that is a cold hard fact. Go and look at BBC, Amazon and Play, see how very simple they are to use. That should be a core goal when developing a site, and the technology should fit around it, not the other way around, or you end up with a Geeks dream which no-one will want to use which is about as much use as a chocolate fire-guard.

I asked the same simple 'yes or no' question yesterday in a thread I started and was given the answer 'no...probably' by Emma.
