I can relate to what you're saying OP

There is a mod mostly dedciated to the FS/FT forum - col.

However a lot of people's stances is that that area of the site is a personal dealing normally between two people and thus is a private contract between two parties and any issues should be dealt with between those two alone.

If you feel that there sia problem, someone may look into it if you provide the neccessary details through the contact us link on the site.

Ive had a few people agree to deals on for sale threads, then dont and that annoys me. Even when you can see when there are online too and they never reply to threads or messages.. You know who you are....

apart from that, i really like the site

Going to spam this thread before it turns into another free-for-all rant against the fine moderators on this forum. :-(

Use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page.

If you follow the rules, you'll have their details. Its a private trade, the mods can't really do anything, if something goes wrong you can call them (and if really necessary report them to the police or take them to court!)

Inappropriate spamming will get you suspended - as you well know.

I think the OP has missed the point that the For Sale/Trade forum is there for the benefits of the members and they can use it (or not) at their own risk - HDUK make no money out of it and it probably causes lots of time and effort for the mods....

No problem, just saw it. Yer right tho, if you don't really need it then no point in going ahead, I'll treat them all as free bumps.

I think the op has a point, yeah you should read the fs/ft rules and guidelines but when something goes wrong the mods are nowhere to be seen which compared with what happens over at av forums is a poor show.

For me it shows a lack of concern for its members but as the fs/ft doesn't generate any click through revenue then I guess nothing will be changed and as per the usual follow the rules/guidelines link will be posted.

From what I see, It's a free service and anyone following the guidelines should be able to take a course of self corrective action should anything go wrong.

No need for mods to get involved other than taking action on reported posts. Self regulation is the way to go.

Agreed, the few hiccups ive had on AVForums, theyre understanding of most problems, and are willing to help out, not just say NOT ALOUD....BYE! And if a dispute arrives they follow them up as well, even by phone calls!

But to be fair AVForums will generate a lot of revenue from its for sale section (so can afford to moderate it more thoroughly), HUKD won't.

and i'm sure the guys here aren't exactly pleading poverty as more and more people click through looking for a bargain especially in these times.

as the guy above you points out when something goes wrong here all you get is sarcy comments from members about reading the rules then this is compounded by the mods who give you a link to the rules, ask for details of what happened then promptly ban the guy cutting off one avenue of communcation that you still had open.

yes follow the rules but when things do go wrong a little more help wouldn't go a miss.

Seriously, what do you expect the mods to do? They don't have the sellers number or a magic way of contacting them. Its made really clear that its up to both trading parties to exchange contact details including a verified landline number before the trade takes place; if this is done, you're much less likely to be scammed. If someone does try and do so you have their details and can escalate the process yourself.

99% of the complaints like this and people being 'scammed' is because they haven't followed the rules in the first place - they have agreed to do so when they signed up, its not the mods fault at all!

Have a look over at av forums as already has been mentioned to see how they deal with scammers and problematic trades.
Yes its not the mods fault but there should be a duty of care to the members of the forum. Its the members that submit the deals for the site so I'd have thought the site might want to look after those very same members when something does go wrong as happens over at avforums who will chase down the scammers not ban them and then ban all talk of the said scammer while tut tutting reminding you of the rules.

The FS/FT Forum is for personal trades. Although the forum is moderated HUKD cannot make any guarantee as to the trustworthiness of the listings. Rules and guidelines have been provided for members to follow to reduce potential problems arising.

When problems are reported moderators assist members with advice and guidance and where possible contact the other party. However we do not hold all members personal contact details. Therefore, it is your responsibility to obtain all relevant contact details prior to completing any trade.

If you follow the rules and guidelines as set out and trade cautiously you will help limit any disputes. If you choose to ignore the guidelines you will continue to run a greater risk when trading allowing people to benefit from your carelessness.

That doesn't explain why my report was ignored. I was doing just that, asking for advice and guidance.

The moderators over at avforums do a great job but ultimately they are still limited in what they can do when someone gets scammed and it does happen. Sometimes the moderators can provide extra contact detalis (which people will have here anyway if they follow the rules) and act as a middle party in the case of disputes but that's about as far as they can go. In most cases when people are scammed here, time and time again they haven't followed the guidelines set out by the site.

Hi ReflexReact :) If you have a general query, or question and are hoping for a response, please use the contact us form as opposed to the report function. We'll always help where we can and will respond where applicable. You can also PM Col or one of the team at any time. We're sorry you didn't receive an initial response, however as Col's explained, there are limits to what we can do in FS forum disputes.

Believe me no offence meant, but at times what the mod's do and say seems harsh and they often seem to lay a blanket down and just quote a rule and lock thread/ban/infraction/etc given with little or no explanation. I have this myself where 2 bumps aloud, and other information i was adding was then counted as bumps.
I realised that you can edit, but then people often see a thread and think theyve read it already.

I do understand that this can be abused, and therefore action taken but a simple, your not aloud to do this plese do not add anymore info by another thread or bump again otherwise an infraction will be given would suffice.

Rather then issue an infraction and then have 3 pending sales that you cant contact in regards to it! therefore making it impossible, and a sale missed maybe more possibly.

We know when a problem arise on FS/FT threads your limited however often you have greater knowledge then most when it comes to how it can/should be sorted. Also as mods are a model of superiority here i think that should be used to your advantage and then any help given will be greatly recieved (by most) and others who might not listen to other HUKDers might listen to yourselves.

I also am very aware there is a mass of threads to look after but then maybe a few extra helpers...

as for a suggestion - how about some people volunteer and contribute their own time to helping improve the for sale / trade section - it would be good for the community and i'm sure the mods and admin would appreciate members being involved

I have to say that that is a nonsense. Countless people have made suggestions and tried to help in the past and as always it falls on deaf ears or gets you into trouble yourself.

between the seller and buyer is the most direct and simplest way to deal with things - i can see why it could complicate things if you start having involvement by members or mods

maybe have some members providing some advice - if the mods are tied up - rather than opening up a thread, they could pm them instead - or before the sale, if someone is unsure, they can ask for some advice

you would need a vetting system in place - if you were to consider something like this - however i can foresee the problems - bad advice given, there is still not much you can do if someone fails to take the correct steps

jonnyq, what you are suggesting already happens.
