I don't think this is solely because of the "Spamming and going off topic" thread, I'd hazard a guess this is more to do with the 2 "Scousers" threads which I know where brought to your attention?

If I may ask also, What was the problem with the Mosque thread?
#2
What is trolling, its not something I've come across before? What does it mean.

It was getting a little bit... politically incorrect. There's sites where you can discuss that kind of thing.

This is a deal site. There are plenty of places where you can discuss these topics and get into a really heated debate, but not here.

If we're not comfortable with a conversation continuing here, can't you just accept that?

Anyway... I'm off to find some deals. http://www.dexpot.de/forum/images/smiles/wave.gif

Either add a modicum of critical intelligence to your posts or take your opinions elsewhere. That's the point.

I'm struggling to understand that if I have a difference of opinion the thread will get closed, Isn't that life?

Why don't you get rid of the Misc section as its to much trouble?

Were do you want us to take them? People come on here to discuss their options or views, with other members and have a debate other it and a few laughs along the way, surely we can't be stopped from that, otherwise we may all say oh well and pack up and go home, clearly we can no longer be human.
[admin]#16
Read what was actually written in the first post. It answers both of your questions.

I am a very well educated thank you very much and not at all green around the gills. As IOM said, shut down the Misc section if you cannot see fit to allow people to voice an opinion other than your own.
[admin]#20
I will say this one last time and that's it.

As it says in the first post - critical discussion and any critical opinions are welcomed.

The forum is open to all free speech and critical discussion but at the point it tips over into veiled abusive speech or any form of behavioiur which lacks respect it will be removed. If a member is continually engaging in this behaviour it would be best if they find another outlet for it on the internet.
#21
Then you added Either add a modicum of critical intelligence to your posts or take your opinions elsewhere. That's the point. So you can post critical discussion and any critical opinions but if you don't have a modicum of critical intelligence to your posts we have to take our opinions elsewhere?
[admin]#22
As I said in the first post - I'm not going to spell things out in detail. If you fail to grasp why that post was closed then this is not a community charter that you will understand and you'll probably enjoy another community then you will here.

Yup, Basically if you don't like it sod off, Great.......

Yes. If you cannot abide by the rules of a community then you will find somewhere else that agrees with your rules a better experience.

Critical = "Characterized by careful, exact evaluation and judgment: a critical reading."
[helper]#24
I think Admin has been admirably restrained and I fully agree with his comments.
[admin]#25
I've just removed a bunch of comments. Every single one of those comments were an example of the mass (well amongst a few) hysteria and indicative of the lack of willingness to engage in dialogue rather than reasoned and rational conversation about how to conduct ourselves as a community.

I can't believe this is getting so out of hand.

Paul as the site owner has made a request for people to be a bit more adult, thoughtful and civilsed basically to each other...............and the first thing that happens is the toys come out of the pram.

If this is the attitude that people want to take, then remember.........this site is Paul's toy and he can take it home whenever he likes.

In all the time i've been here people have always had a difference of opinion and that's been fine but recently it has been more than that and people have made personal attacks as well which is not called for.

i agree this has been taken way ott today, and some members are being very disrespectful, as you say, this is admins site, its like being a guest in someones home, should abide by their ways, we all may like to push our luck now and them but i think it needs to be remembered that we (well i do) enjoy being here and need to appreciate those who keep it going for us to do so
[admin]#28
no doubt this will get removed anyway,

It's a common thing for people to say as some kind of passive-aggressive statement but just so you know it makes no difference to leaving someone's post up or not.

i'd like to know whos been 'bullying', :-(

i hope nothing ive posted has been taken this way
[admin]#30
If your post is on topic and discusses the issues at hand in a rational and community minded way it will stay. The rest will go.

Take the other commentary elsewhere please.
#31
From my experience, i certainly havent been nasty to anyone... people have mentioned that the miscers arent friendly... us lot in the weekend thread are always open to new members... so i'm not sure where it came from :-(

There has been a recent spate of posts by certain members (not you)stereotyping people from Liverpool as thieves etc while this is not classed as bullying it is disrespectful.
#33
:whistling: I reckon someone needs a mellow glass of red ... oops, is this off-topic? Or worse, bullying? :whistling: But seriously, I agree completely with the sentiments in Admin's post. All these things are wrong; it just never seems to get anywhere when people are told so. Better to simply lead by example. You can lead a horse to water, and all that...

Would you like like to list names?

I posted a pic which featured an office chair with the wheels removed, Its a joke, Nothing more.

Its a standing joke that Liverpudlians steal, But just a joke.
#35
How do you lead by example?
[admin]#36
Yes I agree Applesink - however there also needs to be rules and enforcement of rules. It's the same in any social structure. As we keep growing we lose the social cohesion that keeps small groups together and self-disciplined. As we get larger it becomes more important to maintain some form of social order, particularly in unfocussed forums.
[admin]#37
I don't want back and forths on any specific issues in this thread please Ditto and Iom-RF.

I know jokes about things which people may not like, they are just jokes.
If people keep stateing a stereotype how are people going to break free from it.

If Admin will allow me I will name names?
[admin]#40
It's not a question of enforcement emasu - it's a question of laying out what the social expectations are in social discourse and behaviour. For the kind of community and the atmosphere of community I want to be nurtured we need to have some kind of broad understanding of what is acceptable or not.

Much of how that has been formed to date has been through informal social pressures. At this point there is not enough guidance as the group is too large so we need to establish certain expectations and then follow through on them.
