Check your profile on the left hand side below your post count I believe.

Sorry about feedback.

you should be able to like the opening post, they may make a cracking opening post & you cant "like the comment"

Any chance of introducing it for Opening Posts as well like richp suggests?

At the mo it's mainly a misc fun thing (Guilty as charged myself) but would be good for deal posters. :)

What about when somone posts a deal -then posts no further in that thread? how do you like a deal?

I know you can add heat but it and post in the thread a thanks but why can't you like the OP? Or am I missing something?

that was the reasoning behind my post, we should be able to like the comment on opening post for any section.

My likes are on a par with numpty's,bad times :(

(For "Fap", see [ http://www.dealspwn.com/eurogamer-expo-2010-case/ ])

Not a confirmed ‘bug’ (so I didn’t post my query in the dedicated Feedback thread), but just a point for clarity…

If somebody likes a comment & the comment is then removed (either by a Moderator, or by the member who posted it) does the "count" of, …erm, "Liking", decrease accordingly?

This is not something I have tested, but I just had the thought that you could artificially increase the amount of "Liking" by finding a random thread, adding a comment, clicking [Like this comment] after it has been submitted, & then delete it. You could do this for as long as you could be bothered to repeat the process.

Probably a question for (one of the) DeveloperTeam to clarify:

Is the “count” calculated (increased) when the [Like this comment] link/”button” is clicked & the new total stored in the member’s profile record at that time, or is the total number of comments that have been “Liked” for a particular member calculated when the total is required to be shown (in the slide-out panel from a member’s avatar in a thread &/or upon the member’s “Profile” page)?

I can imagine the first option (incrementing the total on a comment-by-comment basis) would be the most efficient for re-display later, but if there is no [Dislike this comment] option or [Remove previous Like this comment] option then there may not have been any consideration if comments have been deleted either.

Hence, the total may not be accurate if comments have been deleted.

You can no longer like comments that you make.

PS. Since other members can now see which comments I have "Liked" I have stopped using the feature.

I don't mind a specific member knowing I approved of their comment, but making this information available to everybody, I suspect, has been implemented to make the system more open (so abuse of the [Like this comment] feature is easier to see).

Conversely, however, the information can also be used to see who is siding with a member in a disagreement or the lack of a "Like" applied to a comment from a particular member may also be used as 'ammunition' in arguments.

The anonymity of the feature was a better option, in my opinion.

Thanks.

I am guessing that you are not going to reset the statistics for everybody & re-count them ignoring one/more "Like" applied to a member's own comment.

It doesn't matter to me... but it may to somebody else.

Just to add another thing.........now that's gone i've noticed i can ignore myself. oO lol
[admin]#26
We'll get rid of the ignore button for your own comments.

@fanpages, I will pass on your concerns to an administrator.

I have just observed that, on a thread where earlier, I had been 'liked' those 'likes' are now not visible but a 'like' that I, personally ( to be clear about this) had assigned to another member is still visible.

Is this part of the on-going rationalisation of the like system?

Oh and the reply boxes are a nightmare of 'typing into the void' and I have other things (quotes for example) that I would much rather be fixed/made available than the like sytem, which IMO is a waste of time, especially as you cannot like OPs.

*What's the password - fghfgh - was that it?*
[admin]#28
Do you mean the border around the reply box is to thin? Not sure what the void is otherwise?

The box isn't big enough!!
http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii78/chesso_photos/replybox.jpg
You can either type into the box as it is, so you can only see a 'letter box' view of it and it is quite disconcerting, as the box isn't wide enough, often and you cannot see the start/end of the line, so you have to use the lower scroll bar to bring things into view.

http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii78/chesso_photos/replybox3.jpg

or you can extend the box and that can take it down over the search button, so if you try to submit, it searches instead.
http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii78/chesso_photos/replybox2.jpg

Obviously, it is entirely possible to post a reply but it is often quite tedious. I guess it's because the reply box is somehow fixed at the bottom of the page?

So, at this point, in this reply, all I can see is as in this snip:
http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii78/chesso_photos/replybox4.jpg

Like typing into the void!! Plus, I don't want to edit as that can lose my post, still. I would definitely have to refresh.

If you grab the "dots" on the bottom line it will let you drag the box open as long as you want. Hope that helps?

See pic 3 - if you extend the box downwards, you can easily end up like that!!

blue & black arrows show relative positions of submit & search!!
purple and red arrows show what happens to the text spaces.

If you do this:

Actually, I have just discovered that if you 'open the box', by dragging the dots, before you start typing then those problems are solved. I'll just check that!
http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii78/chesso_photos/replybox5.jpg
#34
Right, I see how to do it - you have to drag and then to left click outside the box after you have dragged it, then the box pings back to above the search button!!
[admin]#35
It must be a bit buggy as when I do it the search box moves downward along with the bottom edge of the text input box so they never overlap. I'm on Mac Firefox 3.6.10
#36
Yes, I think it is buggy!
just starting typing into the box gives this
http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii78/chesso_photos/replybox6.jpg

extend the box
http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii78/chesso_photos/replybox7.jpg

click outside the box to put it right
http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii78/chesso_photos/replybox8.jpg

Not many people will know this

I get the impression that IE8 is the buggiest!!

I think it is random when the start/end of the typing line is affected and you have to use the scroll bar to see both ends.

Having the "likes" for a post open for everyone to view is absolutely stupid - it makes it look like you are copying MSE/AV forums and it will just be abused (as it already has been). Keep the likes private as it was before......

There's no need for the forum to know that "x" number of people agree that "insert name/mod/member" is a "insert your expletive" which is how it will be used. I'm sure ones already probably been done for ASB as he's a popular target..
