What's the matter Sassie? It's not locations is it? Something's bothering you? Kids? Work? Life?
banned#3
no i just dont think theres any need for long locations, it seems pointless scrolling through posts which have one word in them yet are the same size as a full post

It's a bit of fun really, instead of Location: home etc

EDIT: this is pushing it somewhat: http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/496426/when-you-see-a-disaster-on-tv/showpost.php?p=6497126&postcount=9 What your referring to ???:whistling:

Its a fair point. Though It would just be changed to location to input qoute or something here.

Don't think your going to shift this one sassie.

just think it is a little silly, same as the one where they fill over the space, there was a few username that did this, but dont see them now so it was obviously changed or they dont post

agree with OP,the previously quoted one makes the size of the actual post bigger as well, should be limited to one line or people actually made to put their location or nothing at all

I often find peoples locations much more entertaining than what they post on threads.

I fully agree, I thought there was going to be a crackdown on the misuse of the location field but I may be getting mixed up with another forum.

I thought there was going to be a crackdown on the misuse of the location field.

I think with troll threads and incorrect spamming/expiring there are more important things to address first. However if thats the way to go then rather than a crackdown it would make more sense just to remove the field completely. It doesn't serve any useful pupose as most people are vague or lie about their location.

Personally I think its mostly harmless and its largely a response to losing our signatures which only Mods are allowed now......

Even with my location (which is 3 lines) my posts are still approximately the same size as Sassies's (1 line location) - the height of the avy also needs to be taken into account.......for this idea to have any reall effect you would have to remove the location and all avies

you mean when they post a huge wall of text that has nothing to do with location but its in the location bit anyway? its an interesting idea how would the mods monitor it though? maybe put a word or letter limit in that space?

True but then again you're not a good example here, you don't normally post single line replies nor do you double/triple post (unless you're going wild in some of the game topics!). I don't disagree that this isn't a top priority item simply that I agreed with the point, I do appreciate that it's to make up for the lack of signatures although given the way people treat the location they may as well allow signatures again with limitations (such as no links, no images, limited characters etc.). That way it's more efficient as it uses the whitespace that's particularly evident on smaller posts.

The problem with sigs in the horizontal space is that it breaks the reading flow. Right now you can read down the page and not hit any irrelevant (other than some people's posts :p ) content. Admittedly the post tools like edit etc are in the way there.

I'm ok with the use of the location currently. It allows some expression without getting out of hand. Most likely should be named something other than location though if it ends up being used this way.

I agree re poorly formatted text though that breaks the page. Let the mods know if you see it so they can fix it.

so basically if i want to make mine like this in length then its ok, nobody finds it itrratating, edited to add, there obviously is a limit cause thats as far as i could go

I guess you didn't read down to the last sentence I wrote.

yes i did, i was showing how long locations can be a waste of space, whilst also finding out there is a limit

im assuming the broken page refers to text that makes the avvy box (they grey bit) spill into the page and not be lined up with everyone elses, well i assume thats what it means

With adequate limits, signatures do not break the reading flow and to me I find scrolling large blank areas more distracting from the thread given sigs are a normal part of the forum and would reduce the vertical scrolling. Additionally given admin/mods are allowed signatures which don't get any complaints for breaking the flow that doesn't seem an issue even though normally these sigs are combined with flow breaking formatting.

Just remove the location bit altogether. Complete waste of space and in no way useful to anyone.

Surely having to have your genuine location shown would help cut fraud?.

Surely you could submit fraud details.

In regards to FS/FT I suggested this many times to do a seperate signup on FS/FT so that senior admins could check these in times of fraud/non delivery.

Hopefully this will be reviewed again. If the new system comes in the admin mentioned briefly.

Cant a drop down box for locations be used? with just major towns/cities? or just the county's (cheshire, lancashire, shropshire etc.)??

all this because the op seems to dislike one member with a rather long spiel in their location.

I wouldn't really get involved in a hormonal spat between 2 middle aged woman in misc and feedback is not the place to carry this on.

It's not just breaking formatting, having links in signatures was one of the main reasons they were removed (from what I remember?) so it's strange they're allowed in the location field.

good idea, but,

where would the details be kept? can we trust our details being kept there? if our information gets hacked who will be liable? keeping everyones details that uses the fs/ft forum in one place would be a huge risk. unless ive totally misunderstanded what your suggesting?

i think it's more about where the person is rather then where they get stuff delivered to, but you highlighted easy ways a scammer can get round the rule

You are pure evil and you know it andre.

Yeh exceptions would have to be made, though your home location should really be your home only.

well two of the locations are a road apart...and usually if i get something delivered ie directly to my brothers house for him i inform the seller first to ensure theyre happy with the situation.

But then would that be discretionary or strictly not allowed? Then people do move, and people could lie about that. Furthermore you cant have people providing proof of where they live as a lot of younger users wont have post or anything official with any address on.

EDIT: Me? evil? maybe slightly...but all lawyers have to be a bit...otherwise we break the definition.
