How do you decide which merchants you allow on HUKD?

i think through their reputation/reliability etc

reputation/reliability etc

From where?

I think its based on how well known the site is etc, thats why the little known sites are removed to investigate them, im sure a mod will explain it correctly and in more detail soon :)

Well, when you post a deal we ask you to search for the merchant. If it comes up, then you click on it and add the deal. If it doesn't come up then the USER creats the merchant and posts their deal.

Merchants are pretty much only removed if they are self-promoting... or spamming... or if they are definitely dodgey.

We have checks we can do to check sites promoting themselves...

As you dont allow certain merchants would it not be better to ban their link, so we dont waste our time posting?

It would be nice to get some feedback on this board

When new merchants are added by members, we make a decision at that point and can only ban their links as we go.

as duckmagic has said

"Merchants are pretty much only removed if they are self-promoting... or spamming... or if they are definitely dodgey"

does that mean the retailer i posted in is one of the above, i have had many orders with them and never had a problem?

Sassie, if you are referring to Deal Extreme - it was removed because it is a Hong Kong merchant, I think Ray may have PMed you that at the time? Or if you were referring to another thread you have had remvoed, I'm not sure?

yes i am referring to that and yes i was pm'd about it, but as other non UK merchants are on here im still confused to as how you choose which ones stay and which go, and like i said if we cannot post for these merchants then their link should be banned, like ebays is, so confusd to why it isnt:?

We've had the discussion about UK merchants and UK-facing merchants etc in the past.

Could you point me in the right direction to read it please

thanks emma, but to be honest that thread answers about as much as this one, as there is no specifics in which sites your allowing how are "we" as posters supposed to know, it is like some post a deal and it stays whilst others post a deal for same place and its removed, with the answer we are allowing that because blah, blah, blah, very disheartening for some
#16
Well to be honest, we cannot really do "specifics". The site is ever-changing, and we judge deals on their individual merits as well.

What you mentioned above about the ebay links being banned - that is a different issue really. We still allow ebay deals - but we do not allow links to specific sales or sellers. So you cannot really compare our policy on ebay with any of the other merchants, that wouldn't really be feasible.

Anyway, I shouldn't really be commenting, admin prefers to address these issues :)

thanks emma. you mean you judge shops on their merits surely, and not on their deals. im not sure what you are saying about banning a link, if you can ban one link then surely you can ban any link, eba is not the only link banned on here, there is even a thread on words and links to be added too :?

Hi sassie - I don't see this as a widespread or common issue. If you have a non-UK merchant you'd like to list deals for please start a thread in comments so we can get feedback from members.

Thanks admin, i posted this in comments and suggestions as it was a question about merchants that dont appear in the merchants list, then i went on to discuss some suggestions

Think the rule is generally if its a new, non-uk based company it needs some feedback like in the thread you've started and it needs to be at least UK facing, but there are a few non-uk sites allowed with transparent prices and delivery etc (ledshoppe, also from hk, springs to mind). Think blocking ebay links is a bit different as they are removed to stop self-promotion and protect members from fraud.

Don't be disheartened or put off posting - its not that often you'll want to post from an unlisted site and there are many good reasons why non-uk based sites should be treated with caution ;-)

Actually, this is possibly a point which hasn't been raised. Because these Hong Kong sites are outside of the EU you have pretty much no legal protection at all. The laws on 7 days cooling off period with distance selling regulations don't apply, there's few laws regarding warranties, and if the goods turn up you're relying on their good nature to sort it out.
#22
Thats what I was getting at, particularly with the non-EU sites. Don't think these should necessarily be excluded mind but it might be an idea to include a warning post in all deals reminding people the site is not covered by uk consumer laws and to avoid ordering over £18 worth of items etc...

thanks for your input guys, but really think admin has just blown all the theories on non uk merchants out of the window really, but hey he owns the site, no more said on this thread from me

Well, if you read the other thread that Emma pointed to it discusses everyone's views and explains that it's dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
