rubbish

There are loads of dups posted and it would get out of hand if they were all merged.

It doesnt take long to scroll through the deals.

Also its not the mods who delete - they will no doubt be member spammed

As a mod on another site i say rubbish to your rubbish. We often merge topics enabling important issues tyo stay at the top rather than getting lost in the mix.

lol - if its a good deal then check the hot section!

I think the deal section is well run. And if your a mod, then u must understand that different sites have different ways they operate and this sites deal section operates brilliantly:thumbsup:

If that is so why didnt i know that there was a damned good carlsberg deal at morrisons until i walked in today? I posted it and it was rightly pointed out that this deal was posted last week. Lost in the ether! Now if mine, and since, at least one other, had been merged it would have brought the deal straight back to the top and succeeding in doing what this site is about. INFORMING PEOPLE OF GREAT DEALS. Still I guess its been chosen to just let things disapear. Pity really.

Many deals are posted and many deals are duped.
For example when Call of Duty was released I think there were about 5634 (approx) duplicate deal posts in one day.
So, if we didn't remove them we may as well have changed this websites name to Hot Call Of Duty Deals as that's all we would have seen.
Ok, I exaggerate a wee bit (but not that much) but there is no need for any deal, no matter how good or eagerly awaited it is, to be posted again and again. Once is enough. Reposts are fine after a period of one month, to alert new members or people who missed the earlier thread, of the deal.
The majority of duplicate deals are member spammed, and correctly done so.
It isn't a case of us mods being miserable; just following the HUKD rules, which again, have been implemented after input from the members over the years. Besides, the mods on HUKD are anything but miserable; but you'll just have to take my word on that.

It`s quite easy to search before posting a deal, therefore no need to post a duplicate... simply bump the original post.

Mods are quite correct in deleting duplicates (many of which are pointed out by the members or spammed by members). To merge threads would just encourage people not to bother checking if an item has been posted before..........

As for changing things so that "deals stay at the top......" Thats a bit subjective - who decides what deals should stay at the top?. I guess you mean "deals that you are interested in stay at the top" and that is where the tab views come into it. If you want to view the hottest click on hot, the latest "new" etc and use the filters if necessary just to view the deals you are interested in........

But if you can think of a better way of doing things, then suggest away but the idea of merging threads wouldn't work IMO.......

(ps Mods have a right to be miserable sometimes - we give them a lot of stick and none of their decisions please all of the members all of the time :) )

I agree gari but I think the point is moot anyway, wasn't the ability to merge threads lost with the big site change in late 2007?

I'm faily certain in the past the Mods said they are unable to merge deal threads (or maybe it would just be too impractical to do so) but I think they have merged threads before in Misc..... .

The only time its worthwhile to merge threads is when there is useful information in the comments and on these rare occassions I think the Mods sometimes let the duplicates still stand

You're probably right gari, I know a lot of functionality was lost like stickies :x, and the ability to search within a thread :x:x

Perhaps we'll get an answer from a mod when one wanders past though this being feedback I'm not holding my breath.

These words should not appear in the same sentence on HUKD.

Unfortunately there isn't the functionality in the current system to allow us to merge duplicate threads . That's why we really appreciate members who spam the duplicates & post links to the original threads - it helps keep all the information contained in the main listing. As has been mentioned, if a MOD spams a thread you will normally receive a courtesy PM letting you know why it was spammed & linking to the main listing, if it was member spammed then we also review these & check that they were correctly spammed as duplicates & drop a PM if relevant (eg if no duplicate information was posted in the thread prior to spamming).

I have checked your threads raefil, & you don't appear to have had a thread MOD spammed - one was member spammed & another recently member expired as a duplicate. The later expired thread has now been correctly spammed. Obviously with a membership of nearly 220,000 members on HUKD we do get a lot of duplicate deal posts & the one month relist guideline works well & meets with member feedback at present.

But the advanced search is a good tool to check for duplicates prior to posting & we would advise members to use this to check for duplicates before submitting a deal. There are some help links in my signature with tips for how to use it correctly.

Thanks again.

I'm not sure when this was removed(if it has), but it did not coincide with "The change(DEC 2007?)", as mods could, and did merge threads after this date.

It was a mess merging threads, but definitely possible.
