Missing detail in FS/FT rules, could do with clarification.

FattoxFattox

I made a thread to sell my TV a while ago. I got no response so i did the usual "Bump 1/2/3" like most people do, even though I'm not sure it actually bumps it up anywhere. I just do it because i noticed others do... :D (Does it?)

Then 7 days later i decided to re-list it for a lower price. Within the hour the thread was locked as my last comment ("Bump 3/3") had been made 5.5 days earlier, not 7. I thought the 7 day rule was to do with the original post time of the thread, not the last comment made. My mistake... no problem with that, so i re-read the rules.

But in the locked thread, the mod told me i had to wait 7 days to re-list. I PM'd for clarification as i wasn't sure whether they meant 7 days after the last comment in the 1st thread, or 7 days after my new thread which had been almost immediately locked anyway.

When i PM'd the mod, i said that it was almost 7 days since that last comment and could i post it one those 7 days were up (which was, at the time, about 36 hours away). The mod said "yes".

So i went ahead and re-posted the ad today, then it was locked by another mod who said that the 2nd thread being locked "restarts" the 7 day (imaginary) timer.

If i had been told this by the other mod, i would have gladly waited, as I'm not the type to try and take the p*** out of the rules. I appreciate this site and the fact that it helps me buy/sell stuff free of charge, unlike certain other sites.

If two mods think different things, then surely the rules are too vague in some areas. It should be stated somewhere that a violation of the 7 day re -list rule "restarts" your 7 day allowance timer for re-listing that item. I just got an infraction because i was told two different things by the mods.

Just a suggestion, so that nobody else gets their time wasted with all this "timer restart" annoyance due to crossed-wires and vague wording/details in the rules.

Cheers.

    Hi,

It is covered in the For Sale rules which can be found HERE

    Managing your threads.
It is the responsibility of the member to ensure that they lock threads and ensure 7 full days have elapsed from the last post should they decide to relist. Threads can be self managed via HUKD’s dedicated trading site at fo.lk Members can log in using their current HUKD username and password. All posts are replicated between both sites. Any Item subject to a valuation request in Misc must be reported for closure and a full 7 days have elapsed from the date/time of the last post, prior to listing the same item in the trading forums.

I'm unsure of what info you've been given but we always ask members to familiarise themselves with the rules when using the FS/FT forum. Thanks :)

Yes, but i asked for clarification on whether in this case (thread being locked) those 7 days would still refer to the original thread/comment, or whether the new thread (the one that was locked) would restart this 7 day timer. I was told it didn't, which is why i was reposted. Today i was infracted and told that it DOES reset it.

If the mods are making these mistakes and stating two different things when advising someone, then i think there should be maybe an extra sentence added in stating the above, so that it's clearer for all. I don't think it's my reading comprehension at fault, just a lack of transparency for cases where someone (like me) makes a mistake. If i'd known i'd have to wait 7 days after my new thread was locked, i'd have had no problem doing so.

    Cheers.

If a mod told him this

Then its a bit unfair to infract him surely?

Obviously we won't discuss individual accounts or infractions but we do look into any complaints and the issue is being dealt with. :)

Nobody has addressed your first query, so here goes...

If viewing the Forum using the [discussed] tab a "Bump" (or any comment made by you, or any other member) will raise the thread to the top of the first page & it will remain there (as the first thread anybody sees) until another comment (in another thread) "bumps" another thread above it.

The "bumping" of threads is intended to make your thread more visible to those members that only look at the first (or first few) pages of the [discussed] tab.

Obviously, this gives you an advantage & hence why there is a maximum number of (three) "bumps" throughout a thread so that every member's "For Sale / Trade" thread has an equal chance of being seen.

Most of the time it is an advantage to "bump" a thread when it has either fallen to the second or subsequent page(s), or at the typically busy times of usage of the site/Forum.

I would aim for 8am-10am, 12noon-2pm, or 8pm onwards. However, if you are selling children's clothing, for instance, then perhaps 10am-3pm may be more appropriate (as this would be a time that most "stay at home" parents would be able to view the site).

Hi, Fattox we discussed this matter across a number of PMs as well as guidelines being posted in the trade thread, but I'll repost some of the my advice again :

and you would need to wait 7 days from the last comment in the most recently locked thread as the rule is applied equally to all members, apologies.

once 7 full days have passed items can be relisted, So if the last comment was submitted at 1pm on a Monday and the thread has been closed (expired & locked) then items can be relisted anytime after 1pm on the following Monday exactly 7 days later.

You were never permitted to relist 7 days after your oldest thread - you must wait 7 days from the last comment in your most recently locked thread and the 7 days starts from the date of the last comment (see example), apologies if this was unclear.

Please don't relist these items for a further 7 days as per trade forum rules.
