Ok, it wasn't expired by a member of the mod team, a member has expired it so I'll reinstate it now :)
Ducky & Ray might be away from their desks, the quickest way to get a response is to hit the report button, as reports are sent to all of the mod team.

Ok so any idea why my ds lite case thread was removed
it was £19.99 down to £4.99 at argos and i check over a month back and couldnt find it posted, thats the one im more annoyed at, i think i posted it fairly stating that i new 19.99 was OTT price but since skins are 4.99 getting flip case as well made the deal hot

I think it was because it was already posted here:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/199439/ds-lite-shell-case-and-flip-game-ca/

Although, admittedly, that was 5 weeks ago.

Yeah apologies, I thought you were talking about another thread as you hadn't PMd me the details... it was a duplicate thread but I'll reinstate it now as it's a good deal & a good reminder :)

ahhhhhhh ok just thought 4 weeks / 1month was far enough to go back and that was lot with argos. However what is guidelines for posting a deal again. As like with the bargain shops like home bargains things go in and out of stock fast. And with so many new members a month is long time as i remember when i joined june 2nd i think ppl were posting stuff that then got expired but of course i hadnt seen it.
Surely there must be a time limit when its ok to re-post a deal

Just answered my next question man you good juliet.
I know from a previous duplicate most most members agreed that if a post is duplicate over a month or later it should stand as a month or more is long time. I genuinely thought was new price reduction but as i only bought a ds recently i obviously didnt notice amibess thread b4 as i do have a resonably good memory:p

Goodnight will chekc this thread in am tysvm for ya help JB you rock
#11
Yes starting a new thread for some items that were posted over a month ago is okay, as it notifies new members who would have obviously missed a lot of older posts.

There might be a point where a thread contains extra information that would give it good reason not to be duplicated though.
#12
Also, if a thread has not yet been voted onto the home page of HUKD (i.e. it has not hit 60 degrees or more) then it is better to vote it hot than re-post. This is because it will end up on the HUKD homepage when you get it past this voting threshold, no matter how old the thread is.

:)

Personally, I always do a search and bump the newest thread with the same price, if there is one or more. I wouldn't try and take all the glory with a new thread.
#14
if a thread has been expired and you then another person whom hadn't seen the expired thread posts the new one (which is the same item / deal / promotion etc) what happens then?

As some members do check back in the history but can't always find the same item, which I did the other day with some hair straightners, however i didn't read the title i expected the picture to be there... so, when the first post has been deleted but then comes back in stock where do we stand? As i also commented on the recent dawsons creek thread that i didn't want to post it as i don't believe it should have been done considering it's a duplicate, plus we didn't know for sure that the product was in stock... etc etc...

Gosh I'm rambling... again...

I remember a Feedback thread recently where it was said that a deal over two months old was okay to be reposted...now it's one month?

I really don't think it does the site any good to have so many duplicate deals. The search facility is there for a reason, and it seems like this is just giving people more excuse not to use it, or to use the site fairly. As peodude said, there's nothing wrong with just bumping or updating an old thread. You can argue that repeating deals means that new members get to see them (and good idea about voting them hot to get them on the hot page) - but at the same time there's also the "discussed" tab, and replying in a thread will also send it to the top of that page. Plus it's not really "hot" deals that get reposted - it's tins of beans, and the latest bit of Woolworths tat.

All these concessions seem to be for people who can't / won't learn how to use the site effectively, and it just makes it even more of a jumble sale for those of us who have taken the time to do that.

Also, what should happen in a situation like this when a member insists on reposting a deal when there is a price reduction rather than just updating the existing thread? Same deal 3 times in 5 weeks...

Yes you're right, we did previously say that around 2 months was the bench mark. But with so many new members signing up and so many threads being posted, it's easy to miss the older threads. I know we need to be firm with duplicates but we've also got to get the balance right so our newer members get the chance to see great deals.

With regards to price changes, we tend to update the original thread rather than allow new threads so I'll sort that one out now.

Your reports are a huge help to us (as I've said before, I'm sure you're some kind of replicant!!) but we have to make the site as useable as we can for everyone, not just the members who've been here for 2 years and already know the ropes :)

If you don't give 'em a clip round the ear sometimes, they'll never learn. ;-)

Im in full agreement with DIVA1977
I too have been getting frustrated with my posts being removed! A courteous e-mail would be appreciated.
A big thank you to:

juliet_bravo She has just resolved my issue with items being removed.....

Im all for updating old threads - but majority of people dont see them - I miss things that were posted last week - never mind updating a item posted weeks ago.

I am also in agreement with bristoldeals - posting same item 3 times in 5 weeks is excessive...

(Using the search tool is great for an item you know what you know you want to look for - however something that you were not looking for which is a bargain helps if it gets reposted.... Swings and roundabouts....)

Well that's why the "discussed" tab is handy, because if something gets bumped / updated, then it will be at the top of the page. But then you've still got the problem of whether people click on that tab!

And then you're in the world of "If I wasn't looking for it, do I really need it?" Impulse buying versus necessity shopping I guess! :)

[B]If anyone struggles with the search tool, it's handy to use inverted commas...
ie if posting resident evil at Play.com.. go to Advanced Search (top left) enter the key word as "Resident Evil" (two words in inverted commas. Select your merchant and you should be able to see easily whether it's been posted previously.

There's also a link in my signature which contains some search tips.

Another idea is to search for a product code if you have one (for TVs, laptops, and other media products)

And if Bristoldeal or someone else points out that you've posted a duplicate, please don't take it personally!! :)

Hi,duplicate deals mainly, only upset the game players.
Most peeps don't spend hours on this site.
Even with non duplicated deals, even after a few hours, there can be a few pages to look through. So it dosn't do much to shorten your browsing time.
Theres not thousands of duplicates in a short space of time,in general. If its a short space of time soon gets knocked back.
Nobody can remember the Oxford English dictionary.
Most of the time you not looking for a specific item, its good deals on something you might be interested in.Price can sway the balance.
One day your interested in one type of deal, next day a completely diff type can take your fancy.
Peeps don't use this site like a Shopping search engine most of the time, theres other sites for that if nothing else.
A month on here,is a lot of deals, well a few hours is a lot of deals.Bet duplicated deals are more helpful than deleted deals.Bit of untidiness, but thats never hurt anyone IMO :)
Pragmatism always beats dogma,in my book.Bit of swings & roundabouts.
Good site whatever, the more complicated, the harder to use for most peeps i would imagine?

Cheers BOB
