I agree not every single item, just the ones that appeal to people, some people may not like searching the list, so I think this is a better way because it will appeal to them more.

you think post count or rep count for anything?...

potential way of dealing with this is to have maybe a sticky or subforum of sale threads in their first 2 days or so witha limit of how many times they can be stickied per month to stop abuse of 'SALE!!!'.

If a deal is mentioned in first post of a deal thread then a single item gets posted after then its been posted = should be spammed out of system imo.

people miss stuff due to the high number of individual junk and additions/littlewoods/marshalward etc sameretailer/samecode stuff

I don't see what difference it makes which merchant the deal is from??

If ASDA is offering product x at a great price, and Argos is offering product y at a great price, then you'd post them as two separate deals.

If Argos happens to have a sale on, and has product x AND product y at a good price, then why shouldn't they be posted separately? I don't see why a merchant should be penalised for offering LOTS of things that are "HOT DEALS"? Surely that's the whole point, and it can only be a good thing?

Have you sacked the developer in this crunch or are you doing it in house? This is screaming out for custom filters. You've sort of got the same thing for email alerts but needs to be applied to the web site. Have options to exclude CD, DVD, game deals then have the big merchants. Don't know if it is over complicated to do. The long lists are rubbish the single posts are annoying so do something else to help.
